The first have of the year was an interesting time when it comes to news reports and trumps press conferences. But one thing I thought was very weird was that the sheriffs had D and R next to their names. I don't get that. Shouldn't they be unaffiliated with a political party, like the judges?
Personally, I prefer it when sheriffs, judges, and every other elected official has a party affiliation. It makes it a lot easier to make a selection. Not all Democrats are good, but anyone who would tie themselves to the Republican party is a threat. I am not aware of a single election in my lifetime that included a Democrat and a Republican where the Republican was not a distinctly worse choice.
Sheriff is confusing. Some states they just run the jail. Pennsylvania is even more confusing. Wardens run the jail, some counties have a separate police department amidst all the town and city police, and then there are constables.
