This is how english was taught in swedish schools, overarticulated sentences in dialogues between 2-3 fictitious characters. And it was always about checking into hotels, booking appointments and buying clothes.
"Excuse me, I would like to buy a cardigan, how much do they cost?"
"Hello. I would like to order a fish and chips please. And also, I would like a glass of water."
And always in the Queen's english, we got reprimanded if we spoke with an american accent, which was ironic because after a wave of Faulty Towers, Benny Hill and Emmerdale, it was mostly american produced entertainment..."on the telly"
    😄

Same when I was in school except it didn't have to be queens English. It's still the standard English but we we're allowed to speak American English too. I really hated those listening tests they had

English (American accent) is one of the languages I grew up speaking (in Sweden), and most of my English teachers leading up to highschool would really make a big deal out the whole thing, indeed scolding. One of them to the extent that I went to see the principle to complain. Quite ridiculous.

This is similar to some shows that was shown in school during language classes. I especially remember the one with "el perro esta en el orno" in spanish class (i think there was frensh, german and English versions too). I don't remember any clips like that being shown on tv though.

When I grew up Hipp Hipp was a poplar comedy series, but also if you like dark humour "Poesi för fiskar" posted clips on youtube back in the day.
It is very amusing watching you react to the comedy, keep up the good work! 😄🙌

Well, I remember (I'm 60?) a man on the television - I believe in the 60's, a Mr Gotobedpierce, he taught English in a similar way. The reason I remember him so well is because he had very protruding ears 🤣

Swedish Comedy is the best in Sweden, we love what we call skadeglädje. Skadeglädje = rejoicing at or deriving pleasure from the misfortunes of others. malicious enjoyment derived from observing someone else's misfortune. that is why is funny in Sweden.

It's funny you mentioning sounding like a robot. When I was in Secondary School here in the West of Scotland in the 80's, there was an audio French programme for the bottom 2 sets in 2nd year called L'Eclaire and they had a robot called Poomf teaching French phrases in a robotic voice. I can't remember how I heard it as I was doing O'Grade French. It might have been my dad who let me hear it as he was a French teacher in another town. Literally pish yerself.

Yeah I watched educational language shows like this on Swedish TV as a kid in the 80's before I was old enough for school. They were very goofy. Didn't understand a word of it of course but we only had 2 channels and one of them didn't have any programs during the day so not much of a choice.

In my youth we hand Mr Gotobed in films to teach us english, but his ears stuck out from his head in an angel of 90 degree so we only learned not to laugh out loud, no english oh wait i do remeber:
Mr Brown smooked a cigarr before bed.

Well AckScHuAlLy: read upon the real human trafficking problem in Sweden, with the overpopulation of migrant men and the imported human trafficking. That's how dark this skit went - a travesty. An imported tragedy.

I can recommend a few funny Swedish tv shows, you should react to Tiffany person (tv show called hipp hipp!), Hey Baberiba (especially the Swedish royal family parts), Leif & Billy (two brothers living in northern Sweden with problems all day long, basically), Bert (older Swedish tv show), Byhåla (tv show from the 90’s with two friends called Ronny and ragge), dom kallar oss tratten och finkel (two friends without money living together in misery, basically), Full frys (tv show from 1998 with comedians stefan and Krister), hem till Midgård, Morran och Tobias (mother and son living in misery), Varantv (reminds of grotesco but from the 90’s). 😊
