  • On July 4th, 1988. This is footage from my 1988 Six Flags Magic Mountain visit with my parents, brother, and his friend. The attractions I took the camera on were Gold Rusher and Jet Stream. The attractions seen glimpses of, or footage are: Colossus, Sandblasters Bumper Cars, Ninja, Shockwave, Z-Force (great footage), Subway, and Dolphin Show. Some footage was edited, such as the fireworks display show I filmed from the parking lot, not all that interesting. I had to get this video under 15 min. I hope you enjoy this video, especially watching footage of Z-Force, and Shockwave, two coasters no longer at the park.

It's entirely possible that I loaded you and your family into the Gold Rusher car. I was working that ride that summer. I was 17.

MAN do I miss THIS Magic Mountain!! We knew what it was like back then to truly have the time of our lives, because every single ride there was absolutely fun to ride, and the staff.........was DEFINITELY not superficial, or narrcicisstic like many of these kids nowadays.
And when we left after a fun filled day, I would always look back at Sky Tower, as its beautiful luminous image slowly disappeared behind the mountains of Valencia during that long trek back into L A, we couldn't wait to come back and do it ALL over
    again!!!
Mr. Eugene "Doc" Lemmon, thank you SO MUCH for giving us a theme park that has brought so much joy in the lives of many, from us locals to many other thrill seekers across the world.
LONG LIVE THE THRILL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD....SIX FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN!!!!

It was very cool to work at Colossus back then and I really enjoyed working Shockwave too as it was such a groundbreaking coaster at the time!!

I am glad everybody enjoyed this video, including the only footage of "Z-Force", that exists that I have ever seen online and RUclips, so that right there is a real treat. I do have photographs of myself and family from the park in the late 70's and early 80's, photos were enhanced best I could using PSPX, so if you wish to see them and agree not to post them online, I will be happy to upload them to you. Email me. -Tim

Z-force (the swinging ship that goes upside down) was one of the funnest rides in the park. I remember going on it several times for the few years it was at Magic Mountain.

As I watched this film of Z-Force, I was laughing with the same gleeful abandon I used to have when on the ride itself. As the rocking arc increased, that first point where the gondola would stop substantially upside-down, it was always hilarious to see the hail of sunglasses, cameras, wallets, and CHEWING GUM fall out of the riders into the pit below the ride. Then they'd have to pause the ride every several runs and send somebody down into the pit to retrieve the valuables for everybody who was waiting in a little corral off to the side. I had my change purse and keys in the pockets of my jeans, and when I boarded the ride I'd drop my sunglasses and book (for reading while standing in lines) into my tucked-in tee-shirt -- never lost a thing on Z-Force!

Thanks for posting this, it's great to see some of the long lost attractions in action. Do you mind if I use some of this for a project I'm working on? Full credit given of course.

Yeah sure..send me a link to the video or project once done. I would love to see it. I'm the only one I've seen who has footage of Z-Force. I was 18 years old..I'm the one holding the huge VHS video camera. They allowed me to take it on Gold Rusher and Log Jammer and Jet Stream. Ninja had recently just opened a few months before. I was with my family and siblings.

Yes, Thanks. Yes, I uploaded 1 of 4 SFMM videos from when I went in 1997. You can find those on my RUclips Channel. I don't have anything more from 1988, or the 80's, just the 1997, and the other more recent visits to the park. You can find all of them on my channel. I am gld you liked the video.

Thanks Clone, Thanks a Million for sharing this video. The rides Like Revolution, Colossus, Free Fall, Ninja, Gold Rusher, and Log Jammer, not to mention ShockWave and zforce, once were the main attractions here and Colossus, Shockwave, Free Fall, used to Tower over the park. While Magic Mountain needed Bigger and Faster rides, I just wished they built them in other locations of the park. Goliath, Tatsu, and Riddlers Revenge all just built on top of Colosus, Revolution and Free Fall was too bad.

7:26 I remember that ride being a HUGE deal back in the day. All u have to do is listen to the riders to understand that. The fact that you fact other riders was so much fun. They need to make these again. I've been on other rides like this, but none compare. I wonder if they could update this ride with pic taking technology to capture the "best" reaction moments from riders during the ride. Put the pics up for sale as they get off and I bet Six Flags would make a nice piece of change.
