I Started A Joke: The Voice of Robin Gibb Through The Years (Fan-made Video Compilation)

We all know that the voice of our legendary Songbird/Singer/Songwriter and our Bee Gee Robin Gibb really catches our feelings especially his iconic vibrato. We can't avoid to cry while we feel his song just like the third content I am featuring right now- I Started A Joke from the album "Idea", released as a single last December 1968. This is the last Bee Gees single to feature Vince Melouney's guitar work, as he left the band in early December after this song was released as a single.
Facts about this song:
-According to him, the melancholic melody of the song was inspired by the sounds on board of an aeroplane.
-This song is all about someone who has done or said something horribly wrong, which resulted in alienating everyone around him. It's a great example of lyrical songwriting, and very much a love-it-or-hate-it song. With the opening line, "I started a joke, which started the whole world crying," followed with "I started to cry, which set the whole world laughing," the song can be heard as achingly poignant or overly sentimental. - He told during the interview that I Started A Joke is a very spiritual song. The listeners have to interpret it themselves - trying to explain it would detract from the song. (The Mail, 1st of November 2009)
During his final day (May 20, 2012), his son RJ played the song on phone just after his father died from kidney failure. He said during the interview on The Sun: "When he passed away we went out, they took the equipment away and we came back in, I picked up my phone and found "I Started a Joke" on RUclips and played it. I put the phone on his chest and that was the first time I broke down. I knew that song and its lyrics were perfect for that moment. That song will always have new meaning to me now."
Year 2017- RJ sang his father's song and it was included on the album Gibb Collective: Please Don't Turn Out The Lights by M.E.G. Productions.

What an absolutely beautiful video! And, yes, I cried through the whole thing because of my love for this incredibly amazing man, a love I know we all share. He is truly the most talented singer the world has ever known and I miss him each and every day but know that he's in a much better place with God. RIP, sweet, sweet angel.

Many singers loose their voice as they age, but Robin’s voice only got better. His voice was so pure and had such a unique harmonic quality,. Truly one of a kind. Thank you for being such a big part of my teenage years. RIP.
Never truly appreciated Robin Gibb and the Bee Gees until recently. I was too young back then and now as an older woman, I wish I saw them in concert. Robin's voice is one of the most beautiful sounds of all time and I love him.

I saw Robin in 2010 in Sydney. It was the best concert I have ever gone to.
I saw Barry when he came to Sydney for his concert in 2014.
The tribute to Robin had everyone on their feet screaming and cheering.

I saw the Melbourne concert on You Tube for the first time last year - wow! I was mesmerised. So professional and entertaining, and I was taken back to the days of flares, tight shirts, and my favourite - long hair!

This is nuts!!! I am a 55 yr old who`s former profession was very legal but very dangerous at times. Alpha male. Everyone here is a female, but me. I began sobbing like a baby looking at Robin and hearing that voice, a voice with power, tenderness and beauty. My God those early Bee Gee tunes were incredible. And there were many! I never got into the SNF era stuff, but it was catchy and well done. Barry was the big boss man, lol. He really knew how to werite a song that stuck in your mind. Almost like old commercial jingles. These brothers had a very special bond and vision. It worked . The amount of top hits has to be more songs by anyone but the Beatles. I have been a guitarist for most of my life, and I am pretty good. But when I hear these guys, I just have to tip my hat and say "Thank you brothers, you have enriched my life". God Bless and be at peace Robin and Maurice.

As fabulous as Barry is and was, his voice was not near as beautiful as Robins.... such a lovely sound.
I dearly love, love, love Robin. I Love Barry, too, but I liked Barry's singing before he started to do the high-pitched and at times whispering falsetto. It seems to me that once he started that he did so all the time. That can't be good for the throat, in my opinion.

Robin had been singing this lovely song for over 40 years while he was alive and no matter waht year or decade he sings it in, he sounds fabulous. Sounds the same whether in the 60s or in the 2000's. His voice is so beautiful. He kept singing until the end. And that last part when Barry lets Robin sing via video, that was it for me. I'm sure there was not a dry eye in the audience. Love the man, the voice, the songs.

What an amazing, amazing, amazing voice. My favorite of his is "For Whom the Bell Tolls", but he has to share that one with Barry. This "joke" is all his own. I cry when I remember that he's departed us.
Right you are. Even though Robin had to share For Whom the Bell Tolls with Barry, it was Robin whose voice shined on that song. When he sang the chorus, it took the song to a whole new level and it is Robin's chorus that made the song what it is.

No words, just emotion and tears welling up in my eyes and throughout my being. As if from all time to a moment, this memory took me in an inexplicable way. And it hurts too much his death and knowing that even having gone through everything he spent his whole life he still dreamed of singing along with his brother and didn't have this time. How sad, only on the screen his wish was fulfilled.

@@cindyrector9718 I understand, I feel love and pain and feelings that are part of our life, that we need to feel and cannot be ignored. I felt something in this video that moved me a lot. It was a lot exciting and the first one that broke my heart in a way that tears cannot disguise. Our beloved Robin struggled a lot and suffered and didn't give up until the end and left leaving us a legacy for eternity. 🌹🇧🇷

Does anyone really know why Barry would not join Robin in concert after Maurice's death. We all know how grief-stricken Barry was, but so was Robin. Years passed and they did a few appearances, but nothing like a concert. Barry didn't even know Robin was dying until very late. That is so tragic, as Barry must have regrets as he knew Robin wanted to try to continue. They could have sung under another name if it were the fact that the BeeGees were always knows for the three of them. I understand that. Robin's death was also tragic, as was Maurice. They were the best and most talented of all the famous bands. I love the three of them, but Robin's voice was a gift from God. I saw his single concert from Denmark which was wonderful. But you knew how ill he was. It broke my heart that he was alone. Would appreciate a reply from a longterm fan, as I have been. They were a treasure.
