Doom 64 and 3's success depend on your tolerance for the more atmospheric horror side of Doom. Personally, I think Doom 2 is better than 1 for the reasons you said: more enemies and weapons, and also bigger more creative levels. However, I think 1 has better presentation with a more diverse color palette (not just brown lol), the episodic structure, and the map screens. A classic Doom that is a fusion of both 1 and 2 would be so perfect. And honestly, whether 2016 or Eternal is better than the other depends on what you value. 2016 is more immersive and explorative, whereas Eternal innovates the raw gameplay and challenge. I bounce between them both. Again, a game that mixes the highlights of both those games would be perfection.
Doom 64 for me played and functioned more like the first two Doom games than Doom 3 ever did. The only deeper horror atmosphere with Doom 64 was the soundtrack where Doom 3's horror atmosphere made the gameplay closer to modern AA and AAA survival horror titles.
Doom 3 is incredibly underrated and my favourite game in the series. I love it’s dark horror feeling, and I’m gutted they didn’t try and incorporate that into the new games. However the BFG edition is crap. Don’t play that one. The fact you don’t have to bring your flashlight out to see kind of defeats the whole point of fear in the original game, and therefore makes its 10X less scary.
It’s also extremely fair I’m a newcomer to it and I can easily find my way around the map most retro games I play I can barley find my way around the level because it’s super confusing
For me I like doom 2016 leagues better than eternal because it was the first doom game I’ve ever played and introduced me to the series. But I can accept that eternal is the superior game, doom eternal is the peak of not just doom games but for shooters just in general. I would want to rank 2016 higher then eternal but that is just my nostalgia getting a head of me so eternal would be the top game.
I’ve played every Doom game since day 1. Doom 2016 is the best. My ranking would be… 6. Doom 64 5. Doom Eternal 4. Doom 3 3. Doom 2 2. Doom 1 1. Doom 2016 Oh, and FYI you can play with the Super Shotgun in Doom 1 with newer versions of the game. Mods.
Doom 64 is the Doom 3 of the old games. More focus on the horror and atmosphere. While Doom 1 & 2 were gradually crazier and better. Exactly like Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal are. And they share the same final bosses

Dear God I'm finally not alone in saying Doom 64 was the most lacking title. (Granted I haven't finished Doom 3 yet, but in time I will and will be able to say that without having to doubt myself in it unless I feel I should try 64 again, especially since I had enraged a LOT of people when I stated I really didn't like the game.) EVERYONE loved Doom 64, and I know no one who disliked it, and was alone on that thought for so long.

Though I agree with this list whole heartedly, Doom 64 had different music because Bobby Prince basically plagiarized all his music from old metal and alternative tracks, and Nintendo wouldn't risk that.
1. DOOM (1993) 2. DOOM 2 3. DOOM 64 4. DOOM Eternal 5. DOOM (2016) 6. DOOM 3 I honestly love all of the DOOM games. DOOM is great because it can function as a power fantasy shooter where you're running at ridiculous speeds slaying demons to metal music, or it can function as a moody, atmospheric, and downright scary experience. I love the Bobby Prince stuff but I also love Aubrey Hodges work on the Playstation port of DOOM and on DOOM 64. His music really sets a darker, eerier tone and for me it never let me rest easy playing those games. I actually disagree with you about DOOM 64 and it's graphics. It has some great sprite work in it and while it wasn't full on 3D I still think these old sprite based DOOM games hold up to the test of time so well because they look so good in addition to the gameplay being timeless in and of itself.
Good list and good points. I enjoy all of them too but i always revisit the classics. The comparison between eternal and 2016 for me depends on what i rate the product on. Campaign and combat goes to eternal. Doom 2016 had a bigger package in terms of content and also released at a good time, Snap map and proper multiplayer. All good games but it heavily depends on preference, modern doom and classic doom do play very different. Classics had bigger focus on exploration and conservation of ammo, enemies were scattered around levels with traps etc. Modern doom seem more arena focused with enemies spawning in.
you left out final doom, which is a main game. though it may have filtered you (i kidding, but that would be funny) And i prefer doom64 over doom3 and doom1, though its still pretty low, not due to music, but a poor enemy roster, revenants, chain gunners and archviles are staples of good combat in classic doom, and the absence of them hurts the games alot.
People really need to ask themselves, if you remove “DOOM” from the title of all these Games, which one would be the outlier that you wouldn’t think is part of the same franchise, the answer is DOOM 3, since it plays very differently from any of the other ones. That’s not to say DOOM 3 is a good game but not a good DOOM game, in fairness I’ve not played enough to say it’s good or bad, but my impressions of it so far are leaning on “meh”, and from said impressions I don’t think it has many qualities to warrant the DOOM title, and I only really look in that game’s direction because it happens to have the title of one of my favorite franchises.
I agree with everything but if you could, you could make another tear for doom for doom eternal because it's so good that you should sit above number one.

Hello
you mixed up doom 1 and 2. doom 1 is doom 2, but better
My reasons Doom 3 is good but it's a horror game I'm not looking for a horror game in Doom I'm looking for an action packed shooter Doom 64 he also goes for the horror in the music but it plays more like Doom the og Doom it's a really good game when it came out everybody was dick riding it one of the best 1980s 1990s games it created one of my favorite types of games first person shooters Doom 2 more enemies super shotgun Doom 2016 the added a lot of good features an actual story Glory kills better bosses the power you feel you play the game ripping and tearing through demons is great now for the champion Doom 2016 slightly worse story but better everything else Doom eternal it's everything Doom 2016 wanted to be better, combat platforming taking the icon of sin from Doom 2 and making it an actual good boss fight instead of a picture more demons a DLC the multiplayer is worse but not bad if you're looking for multiplayer get Doom 2016 but single player Doom eternal
