Submariner dates to 1953 and used to be proprtionally much more affordable. They used to be a tool worn by soldiers, sailors, building contractors and such. It was normal for them to be scratched , stretched and worn. Most people threw out the box and papers. Mine was bought using layaway $150 down then $75 a month for five months.
I did interact with some old money type of guys. Most of them don't really care about what you wear as a watch. I even got a compliment from someone when I wore a Casio AE1200. Same guy was wearing a Credor Eichii 2. I vowed to myself then I would get that watch in the near future. If anything, old money would wear some of the less known but more classic brands like Blancpain, Vacheron Constantin, Breguet, A. Lange & Sohne. I would not be surprised if these guys have a custom-made watches just for them

If you live in a big city you’ll see these everyday, several times a day. If you want something unique, look for a smaller company or independent watch brand. As someone who is around old money. The vast majority of them are into cars with significant history. Not one of them are into watches. Most of them wear Seiko’s. Like battery powered traditional faced Seiko’s. I’m the fanciest one with an Apple Watch.

As someone who is around old money. The vast majority of them are into cars with significant history. Not one of them are into watches. Most of them wear Seiko’s. Like battery powered traditional faced Seiko’s. I’m the fanciest one with an Apple Watch.
Only omega that I can see as “old money” is a old omega constellation, calibre 564

…a Sub is like one of the first things people buy when they come into money.
Everyone are seems to be watch experts arguing about which watches fit old money and which watches doesnt, but NOONE mentioned that u NEVER ever wear watch and bracelets/jewelry on the same hand (cartier and rolex pictures)

We actually wear Grand Seiko, Vacheron Constantin, and, Patek Philippe. We laugh at our poor friends who wear Cartier and Tudor. Not like you NEW MONEY people would know that though...
