Thankfully the animators were able to convince Disney because Luisa’s design is perfect!

Usually, any female character who is physically strong or good at combat is usually made to act manly too, and it's a very overused stereotype. Luisa, on the other hand, is presented as a sweet and emotional girl who shows her vulnerabilities on screen. Her outfit is also very feminine but it doesn't look odd or unfitting.
@@L0rdOfThePies Yeah, i think a lot of us has that insecurity. I have short hair and generally a more masculine appearance. So I'm nervous sometimes to wear something feminine because I feel like it doesn't suit me. But we should all be allowed to wear what we like and to be confident in it.

I loved Luisa because when she started losing her strength, she broke down. She thought that she was useless without her power. That’s literally me and my personality, and every time I heard her talk/ cry at the end of the movie (like when she was asked to move the piano) my heart broke
seeing luisa and her story made me ball my eyes out, because it’s how my family and peers treated me while growing up. i’m 6’0 and a natural athlete, so i played multiple sports at my rural hs. nobody saw me as a woman, and it bothered me because i never had dates to dances. i intimidated people because i was better than some of the boys, so therefore i got called a man CONSTANTLY. while i love my strength and body, it really messes with my gender identity when people assume that my stature equates to a lack of femininity. even though i was and still am a tomboy, it doesn’t mean i can’t be feminine and “girly” as well. women can be tough and strong as well as delicate and ethereal. we need more character designs like luisa’s that show more perspectives of womanhood. she would’ve been my younger self’s idol.
Actually, it was really hard for the Encanto team to have Disney let them make Luisa as she is, and what I love is that they made a bunch more toys of Isabela than of Luisa but ran out of Luisa's quite fast and were left with a bunch of Isabela's toys
I also love the direction Disney is going with female characters lately. I'm not very tall, but I've always had a little more muscle for a woman, and I have a bit of a deeper voice as well. I was always made to believe that these were unattractive qualities for a girl to have, when really it shouldn't be a problem. I love that Luisa is still shown as beautiful and feminine, while having more "masculine" qualities as well. I do have to say that the muscles make it easier to carry my kids around, lol. Good job Disney. Also, your drawings are amazing!
Fun fact: Disney did not think that Luisa would be not that popular so they made a bunch of Isabella toys (who they thought would be the most popular) but most people liked Luisa so now they have a bunch of Isabella toys just there but are running out Luisa toys

I'm so happy that we have a strong muscular woman in a Disney movie I feel like Disney needs to put more of this in their movies to kind of show the different types because not everyone is skinny I want to see more like Luisa💖

The creators also had to fight tooth and nail to have her be buff. Like it almost didn't happen because Disney though people would find her character unappealing. They though people would like Mirabel and Isabella more, which means they had a lot more merchandise of them than Luisa, which obviously turned out to be a big mistake, since Luisa is adored and on a general scale, more popular with the kids.

I would also love to point out that she's super into girly things like Isabellas flowers, pink and unicorns which is kinda stereotypical but it was nice to have a tomboyish character actively enjoy cute girly things rather than the "I hate this" but secretly loves it

It also gets tiring when you ARE that girl, being tall, strong, muscular/just not super skinny equals unattractive in media. I’m 5’ 8” (which most days feels very tall) 160 lbs, not conventionally beautiful, thin but not skinny, and strong, and honestly to have a character show up that is tall and strong AND beautiful really meant a lot to me, I almost wanted to cry seeing how beautiful they made Louisa without making her conventionally attractive, what media would consider a beautiful girl, seeing that made me feel hopeful that that’s how other people see me. Representation of all colors, types, sizes, genders etc. matters.
When I watched Encanto with my mum we'd seen about 10 minutes worth of scenes with Luisa when she asked me, "Is that a girl or a boy? I can't tell!" SHE COULDN'T TELL!?!! 😭😭
