  • Hello! Hi! Welcome! I am SO HYPED to see that you made your way to this video! I had THE BEST time turning Mirabel into a villain with some very talented friends and hope you enjoy watching her villain song and animatic as much as we loved making it!

You can find my Patreon here - tinyurl.com/Pa...
For those of you that may be a little confused as to what’s going on, here is Mirabel’s Villain story for context.
    STORY
Mirabel has always tried to be understanding, tried to accept that her family was meant to shine and she was meant to blend into the background. She tried to be loving and kind and helpful but her family responded to that kindness with cruelty. They refused to see Mirabel as a valued member of the family and in our story instead of forgiving and trying to connect with her family Mirabel rejects them.
Our Mirabel has allowed her disdain and hatred to grow, and now that darkness blinds her. Her pure heart tarnished by bitterness and her mind set on revenge. If they won’t see her as a valued member of the family then she’ll take away that which they treasure most. To be loved and valued less than a candle, it’s laughable really.
And so it’s about time Mirabel placed a mirror in front of her family, showing them exactly what she sees. Pepa, a frightened coward, hiding in her storms and constantly running from the truth. Dolores, like her mother, too afraid of the truth and of what it means to speak up. Isabela, putting on a performance everyday to avoid what facing herself could truly mean, what facing her thorns could mean. And Alma, the Matriarch, sitting so high above them all that she can no longer see her family, can no longer see what truly matter.
Every single member of her family saw Mirabel’s suffering, saw Bruno’s suffering and chose to ignore it. And so they are no longer worthy of her love, no longer deserving of all the sacrifices Mirabel has made to make this family work. And so, the thing they love and value most will be taken from them. Maybe then they’ll learn what truly matters, that is if they make it out alive.
I really really hope you enjoyed the song! We have put in literal months of work to get this out to you and are so hyped to see it released to the world!

Perhaps you could do Belle, if Gaston wins and she can’t save her love in time, before he kills him and comes at her gloating and trying to force her to marry him again. She could come vengeful back to the village that always whispered behind her back, and now murdered the Beast without even knowing him. She could come alone, or with an army of equally vengeful furniture.

The original version I think also has a subtext of by not talking about Bruno, we also don’t talk about the problems the family has. The grandmother wants to keep up this image of perfection for the family, so by not talking about the family’s black sheep (Bruno) we are pretending like everything is okay even when it isn’t. Unfortunately, by talking about it the family’s image is perfected, which is what gets the grandmother to lash out at Mirabel and causes the big blowup at the films climax. This could be an alternate way that blowup happens, with Mirabel blaming everyone else for how she feels, rather than calling out the grandmother for how she’s been acting. Still could be a great scene if it ever happened.

I feel that I need to remind everyone - Mirabel is 15. _Fifteen years old._ Still in her early teens, which to a lot of people are some of the most intense years of their lives, me being one of them. If I was in her seat at that age, the relationship with my family would be forever ruined at best or I would've burned everything down to the ground at worst.
Yet Mirabel shows unending compassion and love to everyone in her family throughout the entire movie. She gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and she never did or said anything to hurt anyone.
At no point did the family, _especially_ the grandmother, seem to fully realize what they had done to both Mirabel and Bruno. There was never a moment where they seemed to receive the guilt they should be feeling, and they never apologized for how badly they had treated them.
There was no doubt that they cared for them, but the way they acted is absolutely unforgivable in my opinion.
Mirabel and Bruno deserved so much better and got _so much less_ than that.

the family, besides alma, never really apologized because what happened wasn't really their fault. i see alot of people commenting on how badly they treated them, but there's never really any on-screen evidence of them being harsh to them in specific. the most i can see is pepa coming off as rude to her, which is just a result from her always anxious and overly emotional personality. and then there's isabela, which if u have siblings, we all know that's just how sibling rivalries are. the "hatred" isn't one sided, and if u read the encanto books, it reveals isa's pov and her thoughts are not at all malicious nor were her intentions behind her actions. it was definitely NOT abuse considering they were all victims of generational trauma, and their was absolutely no cruel intent. as far as we know, the village is mostly what ostracized bruno, and alma clearly had no clear understanding of his gift. bruno left on his own accord, he simply wanted to protect mirabel from being ostracized. alma hated his name, i think, because of him leaving without a word. of course, they'll think of that bitterly. none of the family, nor townspeople actually, showed any cruelty toward mirabel, maybe other than the unintentional osvaldo. everyone was happy to see bruno, and clearly he didn't see a need for them to apologize.

The magic dying in that moment was a poetic nail in the coffin. You can't take back attacking someone. Not even your own blood. @@astralaurora4165 Iv had this conversation with numerous people and the generational trauma thing doesnt work since most of the problems they have are not generationally based. They are entirely around their distrust and mistreatment of one person. Bruno. This is covered specifically in 'We don talk about bruno' and his later description of his perspective of those events. Anything he said regardless of context was taken as him reading the future so everyone started acting like he was fucking with them on purpose. This is not generational trauma. This is interpersonal relationships failing because everyone else treated 1 person like shit despite knowing how his powers worked.
The generational trauma bit falls apart more when you look at the family members who are notably not assholes. The muscle sister(again cant remember her name but she was pretty good) is treated objectively like a pack mule, in fact its alluded to in her song. Her treatment is not generational trauma, her treatement is a very common latin family trope of one member of the family taking on the brunt of work and burden. My grandmother in my family would be this person and yeah its super common. Mirabels mother just seems detached from the entire thing and clearly has no intention of telling her family to chill the fuck out and how the hell is that generational trauma? That is her allowing bad behavior in ways that are very common to alot of families, avoiding conflict in favor of general comfort.
The Grandmother treats mirabel like crap out of long term fear of a vision of the future that she does nothing to do anything about and a very obvious disdain for her not being 'part of the family' when it comes to said powers. I mean the childrens room thing alone would be considered deeply disrespectful to basically anyone. This completely ignores her complete lack of defense of her Son Bruno who she apparently loves very much but not enough to do anything about it when everyone treats him like shit.
When this movie came out everyone called it an example of generational trauma being the villain but thats not how the actual story plays out. No one seems to have any functional fear or damage done by the revolution before them other than a fear of the outside world which is only lightly touched on, instead the entire central premise of the movie is around how much they distrust each other and treat each other like dicks. Again Turning Red(a much better movie) has actual generational trauma in it, expressing how the central problem of the movie functions in the characters lives and how it shaped their family.
Now as a breakdown of how the more unpleasant ways that mexican/latin in general families can treat each other its pretty on point. I have family members who act like these people.

Dolores probably knows horrible secrets about everyone she loves, and she's expected to just keep quiet about it for the family's sake even though nobody is considerate about how awful her power is (or the fact she's about to lose the guy she loves.)
Isabella isn't even allowed to be herself and could easily snap from the pressure of being forced into a loveless marriage. She could be an even more powerful version of Poison Ivy.

YES THIS IS IT!!!!! This is literally what A LOT of people imagined happening with Mirabel watching Encanto for the very first time. Her backstory, her initial family treatment and repressed feelings and emotions were ALL the perfect recipe for a villain, however since she is a Disney Main character they couldn't let her be one even though she had every reason to be one, THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THIS VISION TO LIFE!!!!

I truly do think Disney should let the sweet main character be the villain we root for.

    • @kevinherms1642
      @kevinherms1642 Год назад +32

@@Rainbow_Butterfly I'd have to disagree with Julieta, Augustine, Felix, and Luisa.
Julieta and Augustine are Mirabel's parents, if anyone should be supporting her, it should be them, but what do they actually do in the movie, they sit there and worry. They don't really do much else, even during the family photo in Antonio's room, they don't say "Mirabel, come join us" or anything. They take the picture without her, and don't even mention her name, just letting her sulk off away from everyone else. It isn't until it's too late that they both try and defend Mirabel from Abuella.
Felix is just as guilty as Pepa, due to encouraging her to just calm herself down instead of actually dealing with the problem. He's no less guilty than she is with her ignorance, and in fact, encourages it. When the original "We Don't Talk About Bruno", Felix stands by as she talks poorly about her own brother. He does nothing to try and give an actual reason, but instead lets her out of control emotions take of her.
Luisa is just as guilty as Isabella is, for the same reason. Luisa is putting herself in so much pressure to help maintain the family name, just as Isabella does. So, for the same reasons, Luisa neglects Mirabel. That doesn't mean she's rude to Mirabel, like Isabella, but the point remains, think of it from Mirabel's perspective, Isabella treats her horridly and ignores her needs. Luisa ignores her need for compassion entirely, so why shouldn't Luisa be the same?
However, Antonio could also be placed into Mirabel's circle of hate. When he got his gift, it could have felt like a betrayal, or being cut off from a good friend. It could also be a hint of jealousy, but otherwise, Antonio is on her good side, even going to help her when the rest of the family is convinced she needs to be stopped.

It parallels the canon ending where Isabela admits to not wanting to marry Mariano but Mirabel only cares about hugging her to fix the candle.
Obviously, in canon Mirabel and Isabela find a mutual understanding of each other, especially with the timeskip at the end, but in the au Mirabel and Isabela remain at odds with each other, even after understanding each others perspectives.

But with everyone always turning down on her and making her be like a burden to the family she’s had enough, tired of everyone after all she’s done for them. Mirabel returns to the dark side and giving her family a taste of their own medicine, giving them what they deserve. Tired of all this suffering she had to go through, finally getting what she deserves, finally getting the revenge on her family. She blows out the candle and the house collapses with everyone in it. Now all the family is suffering and in a lot of danger and freaking out. Mirabel exits the house with a villainous smile. Getting the revenge shes been waiting for. Telling that gaining and keeping Abuela's love was like a constant struggle since even after gaining it, you are restricted to be that perfect version and what is expected from you. Such love is like a shackle rather than a necklace of roses. So such love is definitely something that you are 'freed' of rather than being 'deprived' of. The realisation hits Mirabelle inbetween the song and it's beautiful. She was finally done chasing her love, rather she was finally free from her love in that way

I really like that you drew her crushing a butterfly.
In the movie, the butterfly represents hope for the Madrigal family and a chance for them to find happiness and truly accept their gifts. In short, the butterfly represents a brighter future for everyone.
We even see this in the end: Pepa doesn’t try to control her emotions but dances in the rain. Louisa finds she doesn’t need to take on every single burden, she can relax and occasionally ask for help, Isabella doesn’t need to be perfect or make beautiful flowers, she can experiment with different plant species, Bruno is no longer an outcast in his own family.
Mirabelle crushing the butterfly symbolizes her throwing away that brighter future for the Madrigals, she’s destroying Casita and stripping everyone of their gifts, in a sense, she’s freeing them, but it’s a cruel freedom because Pepa still bottles up her emotions, Louisa still feels like she has to take on every burden, Isabella still feels like she needs to be perfect for the family, now more than ever, Camillo feels like no one would want him for himself, Bruno’s still an outsider, Alma’s mental health is going to be worse, possibly even self destructive because she sees how much pain she’s put her family through, but can’t see any way to fix things, and Julieta and Augustine, well, I don’t think their futures are bright either, and poor Antonio’s going to have to grow up with of this pain and despair, I don’t think he’ll even have a future because remember, he’s a child, he might try to look for his cousin and get lost or even killed, further plunging the family into despair.

Mirabel has the every right to be a villian. THIS SONG GAVE ME LITERALLY CHILLS !! This is the realization of mirabel that she would be like bruno. Forgotten, shunned and put to shame to the point all you can do is hide. Just because of her abuella being a " perfectionist " and the only way to stop her from having a miserable future was to make theirs worse. Love this song and appreciate the effort!! ❤❤

I love how from 0:55-0:57 you see that Dolores has always heard the whispers about Mirabel but never decided to do anything like lend out a hand towards her to feel loved. Much like how she kept Bruno hiding in the house all these years a secret from the rest of the family because of the whole "we don't talk about Bruno". It's great to see her feeling guilty about staying silent and not helping Mirabel despite knowing all the negative things people say about her.
And I love the jab at Alma just because that's what every grandkid and Pepa are doing, constantly trying to get her love and approval by being at her perfect standards. That's why Isabella is Alma's golden child who's pretty, has a flowery gift, and most importantly is Alma's version of "perfect".
Edit: After listening for a while you can hear background whispers from the moment she starts singing all the way up to the start of Isabelle's section. This shows Pepa always bad talking about Mirabel and keeping the family form talking about Bruno, Delores hearing it all and Alma not doing a damn thing but encouraging it. It's sad.

    Late to this, but
The detail of her Cushing the butterfly was SO GOOD. That butterfly was the catalyst for the ‘happy ending’ in Encanto, and the fact that it’s destroyed shows she’s never going back and that’s such a good detail. This whole animatic gives me chills. Well done.

Has anyone realized this may be connected to how Bruno saw Mirabel's future? Felt being neglected, alone and wasted for the family and now decides to finally stand up for herself? It may be how the future he saw, it's like the citizens of the city said as their fate is sealed once Bruno sees your future.

    • @aloidias
      @aloidias Год назад +57

I mean yeah he thought it was so weird for Mirabel to have a split path in her future which will determine what will happen to the family. I'm guessing if she walked out on the family they would've fallen apart anyways because it was all caused by the generational trauma Abella was pushing onto her children and grandchildren, and would've continued pushing onto her great-grandchildren if Isabella actually went through with the arranged marriage she didn't want.

One thing that makes me love this is that you can see that out of everyone, it's **Camilo** that tries to reach out for Mirabel.
Everyone else is either staring in shock/fear (Everyone) or are trying to get her to stop (Abuela, Isabel)
Then there's Camilo, who even though is scared, tries to *reach out for his cousin* and *is the only one to try*.

Perhaps reaching a bit, but you could argue it was reciprocated. Pepa, Dolores, Isabella. Their verses were turned against them individually. Camillo's, was addressed to the entire family instead. Nothing especially against him personally.

Very wonderful and dark take on what it means to chase love. Mirabel only ever wanted acceptance, to know she was a part of the family. But the love came as conditional to her. That she needed a gift, or she was not worthy of attention, of helping, of having as much love as everyone else. Mirabel worked and bled for any love she could, and that turned her bitter as she realized that love was not worth chasing, but unfortunately, she fell to villainy before she could have that revelation, and now she will destroy her family's gifts and possibly more as she brings down their home.

    • @leatonjenkins6810

    • @RavenSutcliffe
      @RavenSutcliffe Год назад +34

Also notice how she doesn't point that rage at her parents, who did care for and about her gift or no gift, the younger ones who haven't done anything yet like Antonio, Félix who got along with everyone and has no gift, or Luisa, whom she knows is carrying way too much and who also loved her unconditionally (and directed her to Bruno in the first place).
Even as a villainess she's not unjust. Maybe without Gifts her family will learn something.

I'm actually impressed that all three main daughters have a legitimate reason to end up as the villain yet the movie never goes that route. I mean Luisa is essentially the Cinderella of this family, Isabella is the Snow White/Aroura, and Maribel is Belle/Ariel/Mulan. All of these girls could have been a villian because of how the family demanded too much sacrifice from them.
