Normally you see concept art and think "oh, that should have been in the film" but the film was so round that any additional element would only be a distraction.
I would've want the abuela have the power to make the room change based on her feelings. It would be distracting but it would be interesting on what she would be feeling .
Yess we need to see more of Camilo and Dolores! I’ve been reading fanfics about Camilo all day, all Disney has to do is make a mini series or a sequel out of it 😂
I think a show would be best. Given that most of the film focused on Mirabel the show could focus on a different family member every episode showing off how they interact with the rest of the family. In the film we were shown that Mirabel was closest with Antonio because they shared a room (although they may drift apart now that Antonio has his own room and gift), Mirabel has a good relationship with her parents but had a strained relationship with Abuela and Isabella. Mirabel looked up to Lusia but never really saw her as anything but 'strong'. One idea for an episode that i would like to see is following around one member of the family all day but then at the end we learn it was Camilo the whole time. Hints could be given that this is the case throughout the episode by being able to spot the same character in the background.
I love the concept for the twins, but I could see it being a challenge to integrate it into the familial expectations, Lusia carrying the family’s problems, Isabella being the mascot, Antonio embodying all the hopes and the future of the family, etc.
You forgot that Camilo was originally supposed to be an edgy, angry teen and the meanest member of the family that bullied Mirabel (before learning to accept her for not having powers). They decided to make him a funny theater kid that while mischievous, is still kind and loving towards his family and the townspeople.
Ngl, that would kinda reflect his powers of being able to shapeshift to others, like he's trying to 'fit in' with the other people and thus when doing so becomes one to also not believe in Mirabella, maybe like mirroring their abuela or how the townspeople just say 'dissapointment' so casually to Mirabella's face. It's like all a thought that their either their superpowers causes their faults/insecurities or is it their faults/insecurities has a cause of what superpower that have. Of course I do like the mischief of him. Just a thought.
Dude, I cried with the idea of Luisa's room. I think it would have been amazing to see that. And also, she totally deserved more screen time than she actually got.
This also makes me think that, since she’s the oldest daughter of Julieta and Augustin, she might have had to grow up at an age where she should be running around and playing because of her gift, this becoming more mature even if she didn’t want to. Giving her this secret theme park room would be a way to give her the full child experience she never got to have because of responsibilities and that makes it so much heartwarming and heartbreaking.
@@yourlocaldemon2195 actually, Isabela is the oldest, Luisa is the middle child. But both Isabela and Luisa represent the drama and the pressure that older siblings have to deal with. Isabella had to be literally perfect because she's the first grandchild, and Luisa's power is so useful that she kinda became a tool, everyone would ask her for favors and she simply couldn't say no cause Abuela put it in their heads that they should honor their gifts and use it for the people of Encanto. 😔
I like what they did with the story and honestly think that all the cuts they made were the right cuts. Changing Bruno’s name from Oscar makes a lot of sense and while I think it would have been really really cool to see the environment change according to Mirabel’s emotions, I think that rather than being distracting, it would have been really hard to both do AND say she didn’t have a gift. Changing the building according to her emotions? That’s a power!
That just means she controls the Casita WHICH MAKES SENSE. We saw tiny bits that Mirabel and Abuella are the only ones who can Communicate well with the Casita and at the end of the film MIRABEL was in the front door, SHE got her own door which was the most important of all, she got the WHOLE HOUSE. So I refuse to believe she doesn't have a gift after that movie. Casita gave her the gift, that's why her door disappeared because instead of having her own room, Casita gave her the WHOLE HOUSE.
Agreed! And during my first watch of the movie, my running theory was that Mirabel was meant to be the next candle-holder/matriarch so to speak. I thought she would usher in the next generation of Madrigals, which would have lined up with that even more had they done the color changing thing
@@Kowniiiiiiiiiiii I like to think her "gift" is a rather mundane, yet important one: she has the gift of communication. She is willing to listen, and take them as they are, rather than just for their gifts and what they "should" be. That's how she led Isabella to express she doesn't want to marry Mariano, and she can do more than "pretty" flower, but all sorts of vegetation like cacti. She got Luisa talking about her fear of being not enough, helped Bruno see beyond the first level of his visions, and lead him beyond to how to change the future. And of course, communicating with the Casita. So she can't have a room of her own, cause her gift requires other people around her.
Isabela’s potato family would’ve been cute to see. However, it only could’ve worked if it was a secret she kept in her room to hide the caring and sensitive side to her character.
I wish they still kept the mini family to show that side of her. It would have made her a more likeable character and imo her transition to become someone who isn't "perfect" would make more sense.
Yeah I really like “small” adorable things and a potato family is just adorable. Like you and another comment said, they could have used it to show a different side of Isabela. Maybe she “rebelled” one time when she was younger and thus her power grew to grow vegetables. So she went and tried to show her family but they were either still mad at her or she was grounded (before she had grown the potato) and they just told her to go to her room (and so she was shut down) and so she decided to keep it a secret because the potatoes weren’t perfect or pretty
I also think Isabela's potatoes family would have been hilarious and cute in the eventual movie! It also seems to me that this original concept of Isabela was also supposed to be more caring and sweet; and the whole perfection pressure was added, when she got the features of the deleted character "Princesa".
There should really be a series for this. I personally would like it if Beuno get's a spotlight at least. He's the type of character who got the gift but the gift is seen as a curse so. A backstory would be good. And the other characters with gifts as well should have a limelight
I think Encanto has the perfect setup to be followed by a Disney Series. There are so many interesting characters and narratives to follow; not even including any characters from town; and Tangled: Rapunzel's Adventure has instilled in me a lot of confidence in the potential of Disney animated series.
i would have loved to see camilo’s room or had a song about his struggles (as well as one for delores) since all their problems are related to their powers, maybe camilos could be that he has no true sense of self due to constantly playing other people. maybe delores has anxiety or paranoia because she can hear everything
Yesssss I love this I think Camilo would feel ignored cuz everyone only listens to him when he's someonr else. Plus hes only helpful in the movie when he's someone else
I think I read it somewhere (probably an official concept of Camilo) that Camilo actually has some kind of identity crisis because of shifting ability. The shifting ability itself is inspired from "some teens just can't figure out who they are so they're playing their personas"
I would have loved to see an Antonio as a mute character who talked through animals. I understand why they made the cut because it would take a lot of screen time to have Antonio constantly beckon his animals whenever he wanted to talk but it would have been a really cool idea
@@gregorywullaert8618 Maybe she could have such a secret door, but didn’t knew about it before? Because of all the work she had to do there was no time to discover that secret room. After we knew that casita have no permission to do what the casita can do inside the rooms it would be strange if there appears a new door.
I think they made the right cuts, some of the characters and house designs did not feel trully colombian, specially once you compare them to the final characters and house. I still wish they would show the inside of everyone's rooms :)

I understand why they wanted such a big cast and wanting the feel of a super big family to increase the pressure of holding everyone together and also just explore dynamics in multigenerational families but I feel like none of the characters were really thoroughly explored other than Mirabel, and it felt like sort of a let down to introduce all these cool people and then have them not get many lines. I kept expecting Delores to matter more but she never did, and Antonio pretty much didn't matter after he got his door.
i’d like to think that Dolores’ bedroom is completely silent and sound-proof - the only room she can’t be bothered in or hear everyone else’s life going on
@@vixenriah true...that's funny. I think she just tunes certain things out tbh. Like she can hear everything but she chooses what she really listens to
I mean, I assume her hearing is same like ours but just stronger. Just like we filter out most background noise, so does she, but if we focus we can hear it again. So while she could hear an eye twitch, I imagine that's only if she was focusing on hearing stuff from that area.
So I know they cut the idea where the house would be an extension of abuela's emotions, but in all honesty I don't think the writers entirely scrapped it, and instead opted to casually slip it in rather than make it such a blatant plot point. I watched the movie twice, and noticed that during the scene where Mirabel tells abuela that she is trying to save the miracle, there was a subtle lighting change, and the house became dimmer, perhaps to convey abuela's frustration and negative emotions. Then, when Mirabel told abuela that she was the reason the miracle was dying, abuela seemed hurt, and you can tell that it broke her. Then, the house starts to crack, and it eventually falls apart, possibly reflecting how abuela felt in that moment. So while it wasn't completely obvious, I think the writers wanted to keep some element of that idea in the movie.
Yeah!! The directors said that they didn't went full over with it because it was too distracting visually and from the plot, but the idea was so great that they opted to keep it but make it more subtle te set up more the mood of the film.
Nah, the house is definitely separate from Abuela. Notably, Mirabel is the person in the family with the *best* relationship with Casita. The house respects her, while Abuela does not.
@@Enaronia I think it's a bit of each. Casita has a strong connection with both Abuela and Mirabel, and broke to pieces when the conflict between the two was at its height
Yeah I feel like the house was in conflict with itself cuz of them fighting. The house was torn between someone who respects it and someone who has been established there for so long. I also feel like the house was infused with Pedro’s, the grandfather, spirit, and the reason there’s a butterfly on the candle is because it represents him transforming into something new. Some cultures even see butterflies and moths as a sign of death, butterfly being the good version of death. Also, watch the scene when Mirabel is going after the candle as the house falls apart. The house helps Mirabel get to the candle, yet kicks everyone else out onto the front lawn. The house even protects her cuz it knows she’s the answer to everything
I think the house was a larger representation of the family; when the family was falling apart, as was the casita. This is why Isabela and Mirabel hugging healed the house, it was the family growing closer and healthier together. (This also makes sense in my brain, with the reason Mirabel not getting a gift was to test out how caring the family was despite differences and lack of "use"). Being how Encanto heavily emphasizes its multigenerational household, I also wouldn't want to say that the test of the family structure would just be grandaughter vs grandma, I think it's a test of the entire family.
i really hope we get either a second movie or a series that gives us more depth and backstory to each of the characters, their traumas and their current struggles with their gifts. especially with Camilo, i feel like his gift would be a real issue for him because it would give him an identity crisis of who he really is, questioning if when he shapeshifts back to himself it really is himself or it's just what he has subconsciously set as his default look, how he has to use his gift to make everyone happy but what if it doesn't work or what if he has so much sadness built up inside that at one point he lashes out and no one knows how to help him because he's usually cracking jokes to make ppl laugh. i really think we should see Camilo deal with those things, and also a situation where he starts to heal and learn how to work on all these things and figure out who he is. sorry i'm very passionate about it because i kin Camilo and i went through a major identity crisis all alone, so it would be rlly comforting to see it represented in something like this lol
i agree too, man sometimes i kinda wish they made an encanto 2 and make camilo the main character lol but still I'm not a camilo kin but I'm a stan (yes ik I'm weird-) so yea sometimes i just wanna jump into the screen and help him out and give him a big hug
@@bruhvibes5941 if u look up Camilo’s official description, it literally says he doesn’t who he is and is trying different personas to figure it out. that’s an identity crisis 💀💀
I feel like the story and idea for the magical twins Amelia and Sofia can be an entire movie by itself....it would be interesting and kinda nice to watch ngl 👀
@@Lin-rh6qs many people speculate that marbles gift is that she is the matriarch of the family so it would make sense also the family had triplet genetics twins wouldn’t be such a suprise due to the dna
If Encanto ever gets a series, I feel like the punk Isabella idea could be repurposed in a story where we see her go through a rebellious phase now that she knows she doesn't have to be the picture-perfect darling the family expected her to be.
@@belle4774 hmm i guess that would be pretty eh but maybe its just one episode or they tone it down i still wanna see it .... OOH wait or or ya know those fashion sequenses mirabel is the one making most of the clotehs in the family, so isabella maybe wants something a bit diffrent than all pink but they could do an amphibia move and make it something simple **coughs** like that chestplate for anne
I for one ADORE the idea that Isa rejected Mariano not just because he was a symbol of the perfection forced on her, but because she wanted someone more like her dad; quirky, near-sighted and a little bit clumsy.
@@Yue_yunn Contrary to what Freud loved to think, that is usually not the case. Girls often look for guys who are like their dads because their dads set the standard for what a man should be like. If a boy's personality differs too much from her dad's, a girl might not be attracted to him because she doesn't see him as a "real man." It's completely subconscious, but also completely NOT sexual. Augustín came from a wealthy Bogota community, and likely knows exactly what Isabela means about feeling the pressure to be perfectly proper. He eschewed perfection in order to show off his love for his girls by intentionally wearing mismatched socks. And he owns his clumsiness instead of trying to hide it. Isabela admires that. So that's what she would look for in a guy.
@@AtarahDerek Yup, it really is subconscious. My best relationships were with people that had important characteristics similar to my dad. Things with my last partner were going really well and he was going to meet my parents and it hit me how similar he was to my father. I thankfully had plenty of time to process and get over it before the actual meeting happened.
I just wish there’d been more Bruno. Would’ve been awesome to see him have his own song. Mira and her sisters got their ‘here’s who I am’ song but I would’ve loved to hear more about Bruno’s perspective of the family and his gift and responsibilities. Instead we got a rushed conversation between him and Mirabel that only covered the surface of his worries.
tbh you're so right. they could have had something about how the family made him feel shut out at one point as well, and it could have been a song with mirabel. or maybe about him learning that his life isn't one big bad omen? like a song about "change of perspective" or something
For the sequel, I hope there are no more "forgotten characters" that we should have known about, and that we get to see more of Bruno's amazing quirky, guileless personality.
When it comes to ‘forgotten characters’ who are often left behind in the dust from any film or show, they get my attention much of the time. Forgotten characters and those who appear in the background do not get much screen time which is why I am very deeply into obscure characters!
@@Batmantherealbatman Disney always make a sequel or series of any movie that's popular, like: Mulan, The lion King, Hunchback, Frozen, Lilo and Stitch, etc. Everything get a sequel or show.
I wish bruno got his own song, he really never fully expresses himself like the other characters. I think that in a sequel he should get his own song. That would be so great.
Seeing more of everyone's room would have been a great magical add to the movie. Pepa's room was something I was interested in to see how her powers reflect her room. There is so much room for Disney to do a mini series or second movie just showing more of each character and if the family grows. Each character has so much emotional depth they could expand on.
@@Gacha_Nazrinofficial Maybe more just a bed with a waterproof canopy so she won't rain on herself. That way she can have a safe space where she can let her emotions loose without having to worry about causing damage.
Pepa's room was in the Movies though. She's sat in a chair when Camilo gives her a drink and gets burnt because Bruno/Mirabel hit the walls in the secret passage. The wallpaper pattern was weather related...
@@sleepingrose3116 that looked like a normal room though. I dont think that was her actual room. Way too small and boring, especially for someone as emotional as her.
If they did small short clips showing when everyone got their gifts as well! Including the celebrations. I think delores’ would have been interesting to see how she would react to the fireworks and crowd when she got her gift!
I’m glad a lot of theses were cut, but I do hope that, instead of a sequel or anything, we get a few shorts of the deleted scene- especially visiting the city! I feel like this movie was perfect as a stand alone, but some of these extras seem so cool
IT WAS A GREAAT STAND ALONE but i definitely need more just bc i love camilo and dolores. maybe a sequel featuring those two instead but without plot recycling would be cool..
I think they made the right choices. I also like to think that the Casita is the manifestation of Abuello's spirit sheltering and taking care of the family.
I love Bruno’s name change because Bruno being a reference in Luca is a wonderful idea, Especially when Bruno can tell the future and often told bad omens, Makes a lot of sense due to Luca, Bruno is the voice in your head that is supposed to make you scared and warns of what could happen in a situation. We don’t talk about Bruno. Silencio Bruno
They made the right call in cutting all of this weird characters and stuff. The film is perfect as it came out. It already had a large cast of characters so adding more would make it even more difficult to make the film. This film is excellent as it is. Fun to see all the different ideas they had. Thanks for sharing this "Behind the scenes"!
I feel like the film is already not as long as it could've been with it's current cast. Felt like it ended at the end of act 2 when there should've been an act 3.
I think having the little cousin talk through animals would’ve been more on trend with how everyone’s powers are coping mechanisms. I think it isn’t perfect, either, but maybe something along those lines of being really quiet and having animals to sooth him. They didn’t really use the animals very much besides when he talked to the rats about Bruno. Maybe if he turned invisible or something. Because that was hinted when he was hiding under the bed before he got his powers.
I love the movie as a whole, but I really wish we could get a chance to see how the gifts effected the other Madrigals, we already know how Luisa and Isabela feel, but what about Dolores, Antonio, Julieta, Pepa And Camilo? Those would be really interesting things to see. I already have ideas for Dolores and Camilo; Dolores gets overwhelmed by the amount of noise she hears daily and Camilo has no real, sense of who he is.
actually we do know peppa! she always has to force herself to be happy so that she doesn't mess up the weather, but in the end she runs around with hail falling down and dances around, just letting the weather be and her emotions show how she feels them (like on her wedding day she was nervous and forced a clear sky, but Bruno tried telling her it's okay, you don't have to hide your emotions, let it rain or storm your man and your family loves you either way)
They didn't show them because they all follow the same theme of pressure, all of them feel pressured to live up to Abuela's expectations and that is causing them stress and splitting the family apart, the cracking house is a very in your face metaphor for the cracks in the family (I love it though)
I would actually love for Disney to do what they did with Tangled and make an animated tv series to further explore what happens to the Madrigal family after the events of the movie. Exploring more of the lore and talking about new conflicts that may put the encanto in danger would be interesting. Especially if they use it to explain some past events even further. Based on the movie, the abuelo was only thought to be dead but he COULD theoretically be alive and looking for his family.
I think if they do Isabella should have a not so perfect child who can time travel
3 года назад+1
I love your show idea, but not killing off abuelo destroys the emotional crux of the movie. It destroys the entire meaning of Dos Oruguitas and the scene at the end of the movie where abuela comes to terms with her own trauma. Sometimes shows are better when characters are left for dead (spoiler: Voltron is an excellent example of a show going completely off the rails when executives decided a dead character should be revived for merchandising)
@@effietabbal2841 time travel causes lots of issues with timelines so movie company’s like Disney would have to settle for more of a pause/start power at best
Gentle reminder that the purpose of concept art is not to straightforwardly plan the film but to explore - to put out as many ideas as possible bc... that's how you get good ideas...i feel like too many people act like concept art and early drafts are someone's finalized proposal for the film which narrowly got edited out when half the time 15 people came up with 3-5 different takes on the same idea and then everyone blended them all together, bc... once again... that's how you get good ideas Gotta get the bad ideas out before you can find the good ones
Honestly, I love what we got. This is the first time I’ve been glad to see so many cuts. The movie has exactly enough story for its length, and any more would have made it feel too cluttered. Though I would love to see a sequel with a whole new generation of gifted kids!!!
I think that the final Encanto was perfect as it was. I don't think that any of the other ideas would have felt right for the movie. It just feels weird picturing the movie any other way. But I do wish we got to see Luisa's room. That would have been so cool!
I feel like they got it down to the right number of characters. Everyone in the family got developed and had a direct impact on the plot of the movie except for that shape shifter kid but he was a fun comic relief character so he’s still cool
Your wrong about Camilo. The creators of Encanto said that not only were they trying to just make a magical story about a "broken family" if you could say that, but they wanted people to see outside relatives being important. (I don't remember exactly) But with the rest of the family, Camilo was designed to reflect "family prototypes that are immediately relatable" He was a supporting character and supporting characters actually have a really big impact on the movie and its plot. If he wasn't there the movie would not have been the same if you imagine. The actual reason people would think that Camilo was not very important or was just a comical character would only be because the creators didn't put as much attention on Pepa and Felix's side of the family compared to Julieta and Agustín's side (where the main songs with Luisa Isabella, and Mirabel are.)
I think Encanto turned out perfectly. Any of these ideas and the extra family members would have made the film feel too cluttered. Every current member gets perfectly portrayed with plenty of screen time for each and the powers are all unique, any more characters and your almost telling different varients of the same powers. I'm also glad it stayed in the town and pretty much all in the house, it was a unique take from the normal Disney formula. Encanto has quickly jumped into my top 5 Disney films and the songs have been stuck in my head for weeks. Especially "We don't talk about Bruno!"
definitely agree but i think camilo shouldve had more screentime. we really dont know much about him. they never showed his room or how his powers affected him. (i think him not having a sense of identity would be it though).
OMG. The potato people! 🥺They are cute! They would have been kind of weird in encanto, but they would be charming in another moovie. Also did someone notice that a version of casita gives off Howl's moving castle vibes?
I would've absolutely loved it if Isabela had been able to create small little creatures, but overall, I'm very pleased with the final production! The only thing I want to see come out of Encanto right now is a mini-series like what we got with Tangled - Disney please delivery pleasseeee
you know what, the little plant creatures feels like something she could learn now that she doesn't have to be perfect if Isa can just be, then why not the plants she makes? even if they're weird little potatoes with legs
I really hope this movie gets a sequel...I’m dying for Dolores and Camilo to get their own solo songs - plus I would love Isabela to get a dorky love interest.
Meh rural zones in Colombia are still a lot like this to be honest . And honestly I thought encanto was set in the fiftes as in this time there were a lot of violence and forced displacements like shown in the movie .
I'd guess Guerra de mil dias from the Dad's outfit and Abuela's outfit of the late 1800s over La Violencia of the 1950s But really it could be practically any time in Colombian history... sadly.
Honestly, if we get a sequel to Encanto I hope they don’t add new characters and rather explore on characters that were barely touched on like Camilo and Dolores. I assume they both must have issues aswell but we never got enough time for them to get a dedicated song to their struggles or to even explore that. They felt more like background characters there for comedy relief
I would like there to be a series and a 2nd movie because the series could just be the life of the encanto characters and the movie could be the next generation like all of the kids' kids
Here’s my question. “If the Madrigal’s adopted a baby, would they get a gift at age 5?” If you’re following their family, it would legally be part of it. If you’re only following blood lines & not family lines, they wouldn’t
@@ms.honiqualisha4529 she’s not adopted and I don’t think it’ll affect it. Maybe due to the husbands being already of age didn’t let them have powers or the magic gives it out to children 👶
@@ms.honiqualisha4529 it was never really said by the movie so I don't think so, plus she might be the next Matriarch considering that on the door when she placed the door knob on Casita it showed on the door she was holding a candle that looks red and if she was adopted why would there be a door for her (yes I know it disappeared but still, it wouldn't appear unless she was part of the family) but its a what if but I just don't think it is in my perspective
"The story would take place over 100 years through multiple generations." Oh, you mean One Hundred Years of Solitude by Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez??? The first time I saw the trailer for this movie that was my immediate thought. I would kind of love an animated version of it, in this style.
I could see Antonio speaking through his animals being a cool concept! What if Antonio was mute and then during his ceremony he said his first words through his animals and then everyone was shocked that'd be hella a scene.
I truly felt like Casita personality were the caring and protective part of the abuela personality she repressed because of her fear to lose the power. Cause actually, the abuala doesn't have any power, just the candle and the house. And Mirabel is supposed to be the new protector of the power after they rebuilt the house.
I hope we will get a sequel where Camilo , Dolores , Antonio , Bruno , Isabela & Luis are the main focus , I want solo music for Camilo , Dolores & Antonio ( Also a sibling song ) , I want to see the rooms explored/explored more, powers explored more/struggles of having powers explored more , multiple hair & outfit changes .
I agree! i would love to see more of their sibling dynamics. From what we've seen Camilo seems like a great older brother to antonio , but we saw so little of Delores sister bond with him.
Agreed. Would love to see Mirabel really interact with her cousins a lot more. Especially with Camilo since they are the same age. They would have been the best of friends most likely. We need a sequel or a series.
Some of these illustrations made me miss 2D animation so much !! (3:16, 7:05) I didn't realize how much I miss 2D animation in today's disney movies. 3D perfect animation is great, but the older 2D animation can bring more magic, it leaves more space to imagination and the emotional and magical aspect is multiplied.
There were more versions of Bruno. In the Art of Encanto you can see several scetches of a fat man who looked much older than Bruno in the movie. There were also some pictures where Bruno was not much older than Mirabel. I suppose the creators had a long discussion how old tio Bruno should look. Unfortunately, we will get no information about this discussion(
I love that bruno ended up not being oscar, because I love that "brunito" fits his adorable personality , having a hispanic term of endearment was precious! My great grandpa Pepe (José) used to call my grandma Nora "Noritá" and my grandpa's mother (my great great grandma) called him "Pepito"
Id love to explain this further and how all the different name things tend to work, but its just too complex...between relatives named after other relatives, and siblings named after deceased siblings, and having multiple people with the same name, hispanic and americanized nicknames(in order to "fit in", some of my relatives adopted more "american" nicknames due to racial discrimination and people having trouble pronouncing names) ...not to mention that we still have great grandma and all of her siblings still alive...id loose anyone i try to explain this to , its too complex.
I wish we got to see more of camilo. His gift was a unique thing that is used a lot, but was unique to him. And his number could’ve been really cool. Like something about how he needs to be himself or he’s done being other people to fit someone’s needs. Plus, his line in We don’t talk about Bruno is already one of the most famous lines in the movie
nah you only want more of him cause u got a big fat crush on the fictional character. say what u want but deep inside thats the main reason for all the stupid girl simps.
@ukelele First, is it that bad to have a favorite character and want to see more of him, second I’m not gay, third, shut ya god damn mouth. I simply made a statement on how I want to see more of him hopefully in another movie or a TV series.
If Encanto have a series, the series would be "The life at the Casita" ,mentioning the different problems of the madrigal's face while living at the casita, big events (like Dolores Big day/Wedding), and also showing the other madrigal's room.
I feel it's safe for me to say that the movie ended up being perfect. It really makes you think about all the ideas behind it that never saw the light of day, and I'm totally fine with it
I think they did well with the cuts and keeping the characters a lot more “simple” in a sense. Their abilities all made sense to the characters and their roles in the plot, and made them, frankly, even more relatable. I also think if they had added more characters with even more abilities, it would’ve distracted from or would’ve quite literally taken out some of the plot to fit in.
I honestly just really want to see all of the magical rooms! We only ever really got to see Antonio's, Isabella's and Bruno's rooms and I'm so curious as to what the others look like! Edit: Oh yeah, and give us more Camilo and Dolores pls
You can see inside Abuela's room at one point when she opens the door. It looks like a normal bedroom. Perhaps she's not very creative. Although you do only get a glimpse... given that the rooms can have other rooms inside, that doesn't say much.
Here's my guess on what the other family members' rooms look like: Luisa's room might be based on a cliff or mountain summit, side or cave. Being made of stone walls or something Based on how Mirabel's dress represents Dolores as a musical note, her room is probably made up of a combination of a library and a band room. Camilo's room either constantly changes its layout, or is made of many different colors and types of things to represent his gift Pepa's room might resemble the skies, being themed after clouds, the sun, and other weather-related stuff. Julieta's room might be themed after love, homemade meals, and anatomy since her gift is healing people via food.
The animal-plant creatures, Luisa’s secret room, and the different Casita designs are such creative ideas, Zoey and Alejandra would be really cool, too! Oscar would be a funny name for Bruno, but it wouldn’t have worked as well with the song like you said
I kept hoping that Mirabel would have gotten some power in the end to do with her sewing. Given its the only real passion we see on display in her clothing, and the sewing machine being one of the only pieces of furniture in the room she is in. Not to mention the gift she gave to Antonio in the little stuffed leopard she made him. It would have been so adorable and really fit her personality I think.
I both agree and disagree with your opinion. I mean, sure it would've been nice to see Mirabel get her powers and stuff, but it would've made the end pretty predictable, cause its pretty common for many films and TV shows to go like "Oh lets give the protagonist their powers at the very last second for the sake of it" _This is just my opinion though, don't take it too seriously_
@@AnneMermaid I can definitely see both sides! In some ways its satisfying because Mirabel is just Mirabel, and that's fine. That's who Mirabel is supposed to be. But the part of me that loves beautiful animations wanted to see those stitching powers literally stitching back together their home haha.
Her power was the house it was mending the family together. Abuela built a shaking foundation that’s why some of the siblings had hidden feelings relating back to holding up to family expectations- even mirabel herself with her lack of powers she felt she disappointed the family. She helped her two sisters realize their feelings that they hid and it helped the magic. When she helped abuela realize this - they where able to come together and rebuild a better foundation , figuratively and metaphorically. She brought the magic back by bribing her family back together. She broke a generational curse before it truly began.
A lot of interesting concepts, I'm very sad the concept of Isabela mimicking Mirabel's glasses with vines didn't make it to the final version of the movie. The house design with the ever-increasing rooms and Bruno living inside the walls of the house reminds me of the game "What Remains of Edith Finch".
The lyrics of "Antonio's voice" say "El niño tiene su voz", which translates to "The kid has his voice". Considering that the song plays when Antonio receives his gift, this may be a reference to the original character concept where Antonio had to talk through animals! It could also be that the song was composed before this character change and it was kept the same.
If they do a series, I hope Antonio stays on the shy side, and possibly still uses his animals to communicate at least to a degree. I think it would create an interesting dynamic with Dolores.
Thanks for these things! I just would add that the mischievous looking girl in purple is in fact an early concept for super-strong (yet not so tall) Luisa, as the other pictures in The art of Encanto hint for this "tale of three sisters": I'm still wondering whether Pepa and her twin sister were both aunts, and the two guys next to them their husbands; Alejandra as a past character would make sense because of the statue, I had been wondering before whether she would be a secret aunt or something like this. Although she looks very beautiful in Spanish style, I think she would have been to close to the warrior theme of Raya etc. What I'm also wondering the most, is who Princesa was supposed to be. She is standing so disconnected, as if she was an unmarried aunt? I'm not sure with her age. It's anyway clear that her classical "princess character" was then mixed up with Isabela - which seemed to be less the golden child in the concept. It's actually interesting that it seems to be a story mostly centered around family members, and less a certain plot...(which is the result of the dynamics).
Encanto definitely have a potential to have its own series. I would love to know more about Bruno and his powers. It would also be good to see their relationship with the townspeople and possibly talk about exploring beyond their land which will be an entirely new adventure for them. We'd get to see more in the world of Encanto.
I wish they had explored more of the side of the family (camilo, Dolores, and Antonio) because are interesting characters that don't have a lot of screen time. Also the story felt short, I love the story and want more of it.
Adding Fuega to the movie could have really put into perspective that not all their gifts are the best or good or that some people need help managing theirs.. The movie tried to tell us this but it's only in Pepa or hints from Bruno or Dolores. The idea of Fuega also being pushed to the back like Bruno was because she can't control her fire and having to be confronted because she was angry and would hurt people without realizing she was hurting people.
Oohh! That "Colorful Mood" concept actually giving more hints about Mirabel's gift! It's making it clear that Mirabel gift is Casita! Explains why she is the reason why Casita breaks in Bruno prophercy.
4:47 I love this less conventionally attractive version of Mirabel, tbh. Also, the idea of a character fixing stuff that would go broken again when that character is asleep would've fit the story.
I think that the movie was perfectly written. I would have added Luísa's amusement park though. It would have been a great way to show her vulnerability just like in the movie. Wish we got to see the room too! Also, Isabella having talking potatoes would have been so cool and I think would have been a good way to bring both hers and Julietas talents together.
the deleted characters felt too cliché and uninteresting unlike the ones kept. i love how they kept it magical while still looking and feeling realistic in many ways. the only thing i would've changed is insight on how the others feel about their abilities alongside luisa and isabel.
There are many similarities with Encanto and Haunted Mansion. Such as the mind (space) bending, twisting corridors, rippling floors, sentient wallpaper, disappearing doors and windows, Alma & Gracey's depressing backstories, Bruno and Leota's secret rooms hidden behind a painting, both featuring exotic plants, the sand Mirabel falls into, etc. Even if Mirabel did get a gift, I read a fanfiction online were she was indeed given the ability to transform into a mermaid, yes, you heard that right, and also was given the power to control water. Similar to the Mariner's ghost and his usage of water to scare Ben Mathias into returning to Gracey Manor. Even similarities with Alma's nightmarish vision which was scrapped, featuring ghostly men on horseback, which could've been a reference to Haunted Mansion's skeletal ghostly wraiths, and the Forbidden Forest which was also scrapped would've been an obvious reference to the haunted trees in the Mansion's graveyard.
I really, really love the design of the house, and although the one design built between the rocks looks gorgeous, too, I think they made the right choice. I wouldn't hesitate a second to move into that thing!
If there’s ever a seaquel, I hope it”s like frozen 2 where we”ll get more world building, and backstory about abuela alma and her life and her husband’s life before the event that led to the original story. 🤔
My husband (from Colombia) had ptsd just watching that part, let alone a whole movie about it. Colombia has some ugly history. Beautiful country though.
@@emster_emme1415 Right...but that was Frozen 2. We're talking Encanto and if you mean to tell me you don't need to see the rooms, the triplets' dynamic with each other, and a Camilo and Dolores song, you dead lying pal lololol.
So Byron Howard and Jared Bush first tried to put a secret amusement park idea in 'Zootopia' that got deleted and now Luisa's secret bedroom amusement park idea got scrapped too. Just give them an amusement park movie, Disney! XD
I really like the idea of Abuela's and Maribel's emotions impacting the decor in whatever room they were in. I'm fine doing without the Act 3 idea, but the visual parallel between them is a smart concept
I really like the twins bit. I feel like they could’ve made Delores a twin with the power of magical sight or something. I feel like it would have made sense since her mom is a triplet.
I wish they kept the twins, that would be a very interesting dynamic to work with. I’m already picturing a scene where Mirabel is trying to help the house and they create a really cool transition into “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”.
They did the right thing to cut those ideas from the film. The only thing I didn’t like is that it was too short and i wanted to see more of their power. The story has potential for a sequel that allows them to use the magic to save their town.
The time period of the film has to be at least the 1960s or 70s, as Bruno mentions telenovelas, and his cardboard placard of it was in color, so they have to at least know of color televisions. Since the town is so isolated though it could take place any time after that.
Im Colombian myself and family us very important to us. My family is well connected. I have great relationships with my great-aunt and uncles my great grandma, my 2nd and even my 3rd cousins. I wish the madrigal family tree was more complex and that there were more family members. But I still loved the movie its now one of my favorites! 🇨🇴❤
I would have loved more characters too but I think it’s best this way since I think kids (main audience) would get lost with so many characters and generations.
Wishing for a sequel so we can see every room and every difficult each family member (like Camilo, Dolores and Pepa) have to face everyday. I would like to see Bruno married too.
@@levi_ackerman_119 yeah I just can't see him have a romantic relationship idk why I feel like he was away from the society for too long but friends work

7:28 this would have make a wonderfull gift for Mirabel, having her manipulate the color palletes and hues with her emotions and mood due to her creative and vibrant personality it would have made a perfect power for her.
Do you wish any of these scenes or characters had been in Encanto?!
Normally you see concept art and think "oh, that should have been in the film" but the film was so round that any additional element would only be a distraction.

I would've want the abuela have the power to make the room change based on her feelings. It would be distracting but it would be interesting on what she would be feeling .

yes, i wonder how camilo and dolores rooms looks like, since their powers is kinda common
@@Elisa-006 Hey could you please tell me where did you read the fanfics about Camilo! 😍😫
@@vincemcdonie lmao why is everyone simping for Camilo so hard 🤣
I love the concept for the twins, but I could see it being a challenge to integrate it into the familial expectations, Lusia carrying the family’s problems, Isabella being the mascot, Antonio embodying all the hopes and the future of the family, etc.
Me too maybe it should be added to the sequel that Dolores and her new partner aka Isabela's former partner will have two twin daughters.

Pheww
So glad they made that change
So they just moved the meanness and bullying to Isabela then 😭
Wow, where did you read this?
I sure do it was in the movie so surprised
If the Surface Pressure song was done in Luisa's room it would have flowed perfectly!!!
why u crying lmaoo 💀
@@Kowniiiiiiiiiiii yes! I agree! That ws my exact theory
She already controls the casita so that would just be an extension of that
But I agree too much of a headache to animate all that
@@Kowniiiiiiiiiiii I like to think her "gift" is a rather mundane, yet important one: she has the gift of communication.
The twins could have a whole movie on their own. That’s an interesting concept

Definitely!
I also think Isabela's potatoes family would have been hilarious and cute in the eventual movie! It also seems to me that this original concept of Isabela was also supposed to be more caring and sweet; and the whole perfection pressure was added, when she got the features of the deleted character "Princesa".
Agree plus it would honor the regions from Colombia that tradionally grow potatos, super cute potatoes with ruanas and sombreros.
There should really be a series for this. I personally would like it if Beuno get's a spotlight at least. He's the type of character who got the gift but the gift is seen as a curse so. A backstory would be good. And the other characters with gifts as well should have a limelight

I kept expecting Delores to matter more but she never did, and Antonio pretty much didn't matter after he got his door.

For the sequel, I hope there are no more "forgotten characters" that we should have known about, and that we get to see more of Bruno's amazing quirky, guileless personality.
@@derive8251 I don't think so
They might make a series.
Actually I saw somewhere that in the sequel Bruno will find a love interest so, yeah.... I think THAT is gonna be interesting!
I think Pepa's room will have a bedroom with a cloud. Or there could be floating clouds.
I feel the same!!
I agree, except for not seeing everyone else's magical rooms and I did like that Isa scene with the glasses bit.
Maybe we will have an animated series. There is plenty of materials to build a show around the family and villagers everyday problems ^^

Those are great ideas.
@@pai-tsuhi1131 thanks
actually we do know peppa! she always has to force herself to be happy so that she doesn't mess up the weather, but in the end she runs around with hail falling down and dances around, just letting the weather be and her emotions show how she feels them
(like on her wedding day she was nervous and forced a clear sky, but Bruno tried telling her it's okay, you don't have to hide your emotions, let it rain or storm your man and your family loves you either way)
@@Pichi-lv6yx why did you spell pepa like peppa pig?

@ Also I freaking LOVE voltron and was meh towards the end.
Gentle reminder that the purpose of concept art is not to straightforwardly plan the film but to explore - to put out as many ideas as possible bc... that's how you get good ideas...i feel like too many people act like concept art and early drafts are someone's finalized proposal for the film which narrowly got edited out when half the time 15 people came up with 3-5 different takes on the same idea and then everyone blended them all together, bc... once again... that's how you get good ideas
Gotta get the bad ideas out before you can find the good ones
Honestly, I love what we got. This is the first time I’ve been glad to see so many cuts. The movie has exactly enough story for its length, and any more would have made it feel too cluttered. Though I would love to see a sequel with a whole new generation of gifted kids!!!
I agree. I know people wanted more, but the movie was already creeping up on 2 hours. I think Disney did a great job on Encanto.

I think that the final Encanto was perfect as it was. I don't think that any of the other ideas would have felt right for the movie. It just feels weird picturing the movie any other way. But I do wish we got to see Luisa's room. That would have been so cool!
I feel like they got it down to the right number of characters. Everyone in the family got developed and had a direct impact on the plot of the movie except for that shape shifter kid but he was a fun comic relief character so he’s still cool
very true
Camilo, tis' his name.
Yep Camilo was underused 😔
I wish Pepa's side of the family had more screen time. That's the one thing I didn't like about the movie

Yes indeed!
More like West Side Story
Meh rural zones in Colombia are still a lot like this to be honest . And honestly I thought encanto was set in the fiftes as in this time there were a lot of violence and forced displacements like shown in the movie .
I'd guess Guerra de mil dias from the Dad's outfit and Abuela's outfit of the late 1800s over La Violencia of the 1950s But really it could be practically any time in Colombian history... sadly.
Luca looked pretty modern to me. Was it really set in the 50s?
Honestly, if we get a sequel to Encanto I hope they don’t add new characters and rather explore on characters that were barely touched on like Camilo and Dolores. I assume they both must have issues aswell but we never got enough time for them to get a dedicated song to their struggles or to even explore that. They felt more like background characters there for comedy relief

Seeing that the husbands don't I think you have to be a blood relitive. Maybe Mirabel is adopted.

Yeah the theme purposely shared themes with it
I could see Antonio speaking through his animals being a cool concept!

I think the movie had a perfect conclusion. Although a sequel would be nice, it would definitely be a stretch

I feel it's safe for me to say that the movie ended up being perfect. It really makes you think about all the ideas behind it that never saw the light of day, and I'm totally fine with it
Thanks for the video, this behind the scenes was great!
Although you do only get a glimpse... given that the rooms can have other rooms inside, that doesn't say much.
we did get to see brunos, it was that desert looking place that mirabel went in and where she found the green puzzle thing
Here's my guess on what the other family members' rooms look like:
Luisa's room might be based on a cliff or mountain summit, side or cave. Being made of stone walls or something
Based on how Mirabel's dress represents Dolores as a musical note, her room is probably made up of a combination of a library and a band room.
Camilo's room either constantly changes its layout, or is made of many different colors and types of things to represent his gift
Pepa's room might resemble the skies, being themed after clouds, the sun, and other weather-related stuff.
It would have been so adorable and really fit her personality I think.
i had the exact same thought!
I both agree and disagree with your opinion. I mean, sure it would've been nice to see Mirabel get her powers and stuff, but it would've made the end pretty predictable, cause its pretty common for many films and TV shows to go like "Oh lets give the protagonist their powers at the very last second for the sake of it"
_This is just my opinion though, don't take it too seriously_
@@divineuniverse7249 I think the power of Maribel is being a good listener and good adviser..
:0 Isabella looks so good as a punk/rock girl!
Thanks, yes it does make sense that it would be the young Luisa in terms of the concept character's shape and build.
Tbh I’m happy this video does not have that same old person speaking whenever other yt channels do this types of vids
Encanto definitely have a potential to have its own series. I would love to know more about Bruno and his powers.

The capybara is the most powerful character. You cannot change my mind.

I would have also loved more songs and more screen time with Dolores, Bruno and Camillo
I adore those scrap things and people, showing how the thinking and progress went through to make this marvelous story
6:54 I was immediately reminded of the Weasley‘s house from Harry Potter when I saw that design
The time period of the film has to be at least the 1960s or 70s, as Bruno mentions telenovelas, and his cardboard placard of it was in color, so they have to at least know of color televisions. Since the town is so isolated though it could take place any time after that.

I got the feeling he isn’t a relationship.. sort of guy.
@@levi_ackerman_119 yeah I just can't see him have a romantic relationship idk why I feel like he was away from the society for too long but friends work

Interesting call out to this version of Agustín at 52/53 minutes in when Camilo shape shifts his head to a baby with a mustache lol
Context: I just watched this video then wanted to rewatch "we don't talk about Bruno" and kept watching so it lk blew my mind
7:28 this would have make a wonderfull gift for Mirabel, having her manipulate the color palletes and hues with her emotions and mood due to her creative and vibrant personality it would have made a perfect power for her.
