Hi Mick
Get your blow torch a little closer to that fuel tank, then you will do what it needs, Burning!
Rather you than me, Keep up the good work!!!
This guy knows his stuff.
Thanks for making this video. I inherited this very strimmer off my dad and the filter was gunky and rattling about the tank. I'll find out tomorrow of the problem is something else but I'm delighted to have dealt with that. 5 minutes work and hopefully it can be put to good use.
It'd running great, maybe a little speedy - will watch the tuning instructions at the end - delighted.
Good to see the boss back in the shed mick a lot of work for a
Ryobi Good job mick 👏
I've been running hard. I needed some Mick while doing some much needed mechanical work of my own. Just clears the thoughts and calms the mind. Great show sir.
Wow! From triage. to surgery, to "It's Alive!" ... A lot of knowledge shared in this video. Thank you for sharing.
No worries
Another great video and always like seeing u include Riley boy in your videos mate Mick I’m so thankful for you and others that takes the time and initiative to do these videos on a consistent basis that helps dummies like me learn how to repair different equipment. If I can do it ANYONE can do it through the help and guidance of professionals like Micks mowers The Mower Man. And Bonus I’ve met some great people on here and made some GREAT FRIENDS. THANKS 🙏🏻 MICK FOR ALL U DO AND HAVE DONE FOR THE small engine repair community it’s much better because of you. (Close knit community). Everyone is so willing to help others in anyway they can. Tell Riley boy and Mrs P we said hello. Thanks so much Mick The Mower Man
Your welcome mate
Thank you for the content you share. I have a Ryobi 18" chainsaw for 3 years now and love it. Truth is I have not done anything to it, but I have been thinking I should do some preventive maintenance. Best chainsaw I have ever had. I don't really use it very often but when needed it all ways works.
If you do not use it often i would suggest switching over to a canned alkylate fuel like Aspen if you have not done so already. Worry free start up for 2 years guaranteed.
Thank you@@waynestefinashen239
@@user-sp7kt7vw7w Your welcome our neighbour has been buying the Kinetix 2 stroke alkylate fuel from us for 5 years now and all 5 pieces of 2 stroke equipment you owns fire up and run fine but he is using it on a regular basis so very expensive. Issue always was that he was mixing his fuel with too much oil and would regularly need carb cleaning which was costing him way more than the annual useage and purchase of the Kinetix fuel.
Well done Mick , some great information in this one , you really are unstoppable bud keep at it
Great in depth video Mick. My 20 year old Partner strimmer isn't running right, fuel lines may be the wrong way round, after I messed with it. I'll go and check. Thanks for the advice.
Very nice fix! Thank you!!
HI Mick.
I feel like that sometimes with Ryobi machinery at times lol.
I agree about the fuel (I bought one that instead of 50:1 2 stroke mix they had put a 50/50 mix), but in the owners manual it says to get it retuned after 4-5 tanks worth of fuel it's used.
It normally just requires a carb tune (special tool required) to get it to run properly.
What you have shown is a typical example of people trying to fix things, and not realising that if you need to drill it, then you're doing something wrong e.g. the fuel pipes to big.
I've had 2 mowers come in where the owners have drilled the pop rivets out to repair the pull cord (instead of undoing 3-4 bolts)! DOH!!
Nice one Mick might look at my old one tomorrow feels good compression got spark tried fuel in carb but nothing.
Great video Mick, I love working on mowers but I just like how small two stroke equipment is, I can fit like two mowers in my shed, but like 10+ strimmers, it's better if you don't have much space to work on two stroke equipment, but I actually prefer mowers, it's just space, thanks for the video 👍
Awesome fix's Thank you for the video hi guys
Very interesting Mick. I'm working on one of those now my self. Very informative on the carby fix.
That fuel tank is made from HDPE. Pretty much nothing sticks to it. I hope it holds.

great video for the holes in the gas tank you had if you wanted to fix them you can take a soldering iron and let it heat up and rake on each side to melt the plastic and Slide the plastic right over and fill the holes in
Yes but had mixed results mate
Nice fix Mick, loving the Tyrll putty.
Love you guys . Big hello from Melbourne Australia . Cheers !
Gday mate
Fantastic fix mick there is nothing wrong with a ryobi lol I've got a ryobi rbc30ses strimmer have had it from brand new in 2008 and it has had a lot of hammer have had no problems with it at all just new primer bulb and a new strimmer head and it is still going strong 👍👍👍👍
Mick. Just watched this video and I feel that I need to caution you against wetting the Putty with saliva. Before I retired we had salesman from a company that use to sell these types of two pack compounds he did the same as you did.
After a while he ended up with cancer in his face and had a large part removed.
So beware.
Regards
Peter
Very nice work 👍👍👍👍

I have found stripping and cleaning these little carbs a bit hit and miss. Usually end up replacing the carb
Can't beat Aspen alkylate petrol for keeping rubber soft and carbs gum-free. Great video Mick, nice to see a different brand too.
Ta for watching mate
Just “won” one like that but with the starter motor, no battery or charger though, but pull start mech is corroded and jamming, it came with the strimmer end , extension, and the hedge trimmer ends, so I’m hopefully I can get it running.
I can't see how it can suck in air if the fuel line is submerged in the the petrol. All the missing grommets do is prevent fuel from leakilng out. You can run a machine with the fuel cap off.
NICE VIDEO.
Just happen to come across this. Question i have is why not just go ahead and clean everything instead of just putting stuff back together oily and dirty? If you're going to do something do it right. A good thorough cleaning of equipment is part of regular maintenance.
Had my Ryobi strimmer 26 years , apart from replacing the clutch 10 years ago it's been great up till this year. Treating it to a complete overhaul, well worth doing.
Good on ya
i agree with you on those are not a good weedeater they are a pain in the neck i don't like working on them. the four stroke are the worst.
Nothing wrong with Ryobi not top end but not bad quality. Well done on the repair Mick
Nice repair and tune Mick, hello Reilly Boy😊
Hope that your new compressor hasn’t broken?
In my experience the ryobi stuff is usualy better quality than a lot of the other cheap brands. The problem is that because of the price people don't really look after them.
Also with the tank could you not have drilled a larger hole in the middle of the 2 making one big hole for a grommet?
No too far apart mate
Was wondering if I should bother saying that, sure most brands come like that from factory
Thanks for the luv mick
Ive spent hours working on these strimmers. At one stage I had one in use one acting up and one in bits for spares. The earlier models didnt have spark arrestors but one overiding issue I saw with these units was ignition coil !! Symptoms are - works for 20 min and starts fairly easily but then stops when hot and cannot be restarted till cool no matter what. Seen this happen twice after numerous carbs carb rebuilds etc etc. The non-Chinese coils are expensive and make the unit not worth repairing. After the gauze the first thing I would have tried was 1/4 turn CCW on the Low jet.
I'm trying to get my Ryobi strimmers going without much success.... Do the cárb get blocked up due to no filter
well done mick brillaint one mate
No worries mate ..
I would have tried running the new lines through the old lines. Just using the old lines for a sleeve.
Hi to Riley boy🎉
Have your feelings on Ryobi machine to Mìck my mate BGN barries gardening needs hates them too. We burn the exhausts out sometimes half àn hour or so to clean them out. Great vid buddy new viewer subscribed too
Great video. Quick question, what pliers did you use to hold the gause?
At what time in the video?
@@themowerman at the beginning when you cleaned the gauze with the blow torch
Hello Riley boy hope you are well
Mines a pig to start on the pull cord. I now know why it’s electric start lol
Just wondering why you didn’t you just put rubber o rings on fuel tank and fuel line
Where do you get the Taryn putty from?
From taryl fixes all shop...
Fun listening to true English (:
Lol thanks me old mucker
Do you have a coil for a challenge mower (Argos brand ) ours died doing a free clean up today
No mate sorry
@@themowerman no problem Mick , is they anything else that could stop the spark , I've tried a new spark plug
@@ma.creations20 micro switch or coil wire..
@@themowerman by coil wire do you mean the one that goes to the micro switch or the one going to the spark plug , cheers Mick
@@ma.creations20 yeah mate .. and check the switch
my ryobi would'nt start there was crap inside spark plug boot
That would do it
Ryobi kinda like Tecumseh mmmmm mmmmm good I mean kinda like a Kia or Ferrari depends on your wallet size like Nike golf balls over Titleist yeh no like a Creamsicle over a hot fudge Sunday not 🥴 You get my meaning !
Araldite is the best answer.
Blow torch and gas tank.
its needs to stay on half choke
Why are you using WD40 on everything instead of carburetor cleaner?
Best I can and because it works .. simple
I've got a 2-stroke Ryobi strimmer I've had for about 10 to 15 years now. They are pretty cheaply made, most screws go into plastic, for example.
It's OK and starts / runs fine, does the job, but only after some fiddling.
From new, the mixture was so weak - probably in the interests of emissions - it wouldn't run at all (that certainly kept the emissions down). The adjusting screws had no slots so you couldn't adjust it, but I got round that with a Dremel, and after some setting up, it started and ran fine.
Then I found it would start from cold no problem, but not when hot, needed to leave it to cool again. Really annoying. After a some faffing around (I've done a lot of kart racing so am pretty familiar with 2-strokes), the problem proved to be no spark when hot. Hard to prove as when you take the plug out the spark looks fine.
The cause was just insufficient HT voltage. When cold, rings don't seal as well, compression is lower, necessary voltage is lower, but when hot, it all goes up and the coil couldn't generate the voltage. Probably if I had managed to spin it over fast enough to get the voltage up it would have been OK.
Used to have this many years ago on small cylindrical CEV kart coils when they started to breakdown due to vibration.
In the end I got around it by making sure the magneto coil to flywheel gap was as tight as possible, and that the spark plug gap was on the low side. Since then it's been fine, but it's undoubtedly marginal. Possibly a replacement coil would be better, but it's OK at the moment - and maybe it would be a waste of money.
Maybe that'll help someone.
Cannot say I like the quality much, but you get what you pay for. I'd much prefer a Stihl, but you pay Stihl money.
Good comment mate

Lol... I hate them... How you doing mate
You can't have a Ryobi "STRIMMER", Strimmer is a Black & Decker trade name!
Does your dog bite.🤣🤣
Next time use your time wisely not on a Ryobi
Love your videos but you are way to close to that gas tank with the torch
Ohhh don't worry... I was down wind
lol@@themowerman
Wrong gas/oil mix is the problem with 2 cycle equipment plus everything else is a problem with 2 cycle equipment like the carburetor is needing a clean up and the.fuel.fliter is definitely not in great shape let's not forget the spark plug ethanol free gas will help with engine issues like the carburetor
Ryobi is pure dirt. Never buy this crap.
My 25cc is pretty good. She operates in different ways than others of her kind.
I've used my Ryobi with several attachments and has done well for several years.
Mine is powerful with elegance. When it runs it is all out for 10 minutes at a time.@@binarybox.binarybox
