That is some history right there. Carburetors are a fascinating piece of technology. I mean all the mechanical things like accelerator pumps etc. that were developed over the time to eliminate certain issues are just genius. I live in Germany and one day I saw a 50s U.S. car stranded on the side of the road. I stopped to try and help out. We found that the floater was full of fuel. It was a brass one and it must have had a small crack that we couldn't see. We drilled a hole in it to drain the fuel and sealed it with solder. It was enough to get the 30 miles to home. If you do something you do it proper and I really like that. When you took the engine out of the wagon, I loved to see that you color coded all the fittings for easy assembly. Cleetus went with the all black fitting version. I hope they never mix up an oil and water line.
I’m fairly certain Kyle will learn everything he can, and Steve doing the carbs shout be positive knowledge for Kyle. You guys are just truly awesome to watch!!

When he was moving so casually around that belt, my spidey senses were tingling. I didn't even notice the hoody strings, but it just made me nervous. Good catch. I ran my finger through a fan belt and AROUND the pulley back when I was a teenager. Thank goodness it was nice and loose. Scared the absolute shit out of me. Didn't hurt my finger much, but damn near pulled my shoulder out of the socket. (we shall not talk of the marks the fan blade made on the underside of my arm) You live and you learn. Hopefully with all your body parts still attached.
Many of your early procharger videos helped me to build my 565 for my f1x. It's a 77/46 pulley ratio with a c&s aerosol (dual needle and seat) carb on pump gas in a street car. It's held together for six years of brutality in front of a Jeffco four speed. This procharger is spinning as fast as its rated for, and it's always handled it well 👍 excellent video

Great to see that C&S Carb on the 540. Takes me back down memory lane. I ran one on my N.A. Hot Street Mustang in the NMCA back in 1998. Took it to Milan and instantly picked up .2!, Which was a game changer. in a TIGHT Class! Needles to say.. the NMCA outlawed it by the nexr race. The Aerosol Billet was the real deal. No big boosters talking up space and much better atomization of the fuel. Ended up using it again in the NMRA and won the Championship in 2000. it now supplies fuel to a friend's Small block Impala. Great folks to work with back then too. Thanks for showing the kid how to tune old school RELIABLE.

As you mentioned Steve, it would be beneficial to try adjusting the high speed bleeds. They tend to be large from factory, I find stepping down a few sizes can help with some of the lean top you were experiencing. Secondly, a newer style metering block with adjustable power valve channel restrictors. (PVCR’s) can really help clean up the fuel curve. Allows you to run a slightly smaller primary main jet (presuming you only have a PV on the primary side) though you can get crafty and run dual PVs primary and secondary and really play around with PVCRs and main jet sizes. But that aside, larger PVCRs allow for a smaller main jet, when you’re under the PV opening condition you can get a slightly leaner fuel curve, then when the PV becomes active the larger PVCRs allow for more fuel to richen up the mixture. Emulsion jets, orientations of the emulsions along with float heights can also make for some positive mixture results though you’re really splitting hairs at that point. Wish I could have been there in an attempt to resolve the minor mixture inconsistencies you were experiencing. Usually why the newer Holleys, quick fuels, pro form carbs are great because of all their adjustability on their circuits.
Biggest thing is the algorithm sees an influx of subs and generally picks up the videos and recommends them more. So it speeds up channel growth quite a lot.

I'm 31...my knowledge of most carbs is that they should be clean and what a jet size is and what the chart for temperature/ altitude for a stock dirtbike shows and how to change it. For an airplane though, it's pretty easy with an adjustable mixture, you just adjust by exhaust temp and achieved RPM at a certain throttle setting, or if you have no exhaust temp gauge, lean it untill it's rough then richen it a touch. I wish cars were as easy with the varied throttle and RPM and loading....
@@EASTSIDERIDER707 67 and still have nightmare trying to make a Quadrajunk work at all. Rochesters were actually a pretty good carburetor once you figured them out, but boy they could be finicky. Holley's were a Godsend, even a dummy could make them work halfway decent and I'm a dummy.
From my experience along with common sense.....When you're dealing with fuel systems and fuel line always know the size of the orifices in the pump and your hardware. Your line should always be equal to or larger than the orpheus that u are supporting, learn your path and the limits of where the fuel has to flow in or out of. If your line is smaller then the inlet or outlet of your hardware, it restricts flow more than the hardware can do itself. Like he said the Orpheus that fuel was returning through was too small even though he tried A-line larger than the output orpheus. That means the return orifice itself was the restriction, it was too small so he went to the larger alternate return orifice. Sometimes the restriction is internal. Always have sufficient fuel line size. Always check that anywhere there is a orpheus or something that is in-line like fuel filter, that your input and output of that filter or part is equivalent or larger than the pump output, also make sure your in/out on the regulator is adequate for the application. I know this is fuel 101 but someone might not have thought of it. This is not my channel to give advice so this is just my own experience. Follow the manufactures recomendations. Isn't it amazing how many youngsters look at a rochester quadrajet carburettor or any other type and look myth'd! even some older Holley Carb's even some newish mechanics won't touch them... Makes me feel old at 50yrs old... definitely want an SMX, but will call when I have time, especially when I'm down under! Really enjoyed this video, more old school technology which im more familiar with!

I'm 31...my knowledge of most carbs is that they should be clean and what a jet size is and what the chart for temperature/ altitude for a stock dirtbike shows and how to change it. For an airplane though, it's pretty easy with an adjustable mixture, you just adjust by exhaust temp and achieved RPM at a certain throttle setting, or if you have no exhaust temp gauge, lean it untill it's rough then richen it a touch. I wish cars were as easy with the varied throttle and RPM and loading....
@@EASTSIDERIDER707 67 and still have nightmare trying to make a Quadrajunk work at all. Rochesters were actually a pretty good carburetor once you figured them out, but boy they could be finicky.
Holley's were a Godsend, even a dummy could make them work halfway decent and I'm a dummy.

From my experience along with common sense.....When you're dealing with fuel systems and fuel line always know the size of the orifices in the pump and your hardware. Your line should always be equal to or larger than the orpheus that u are supporting, learn your path and the limits of where the fuel has to flow in or out of. If your line is smaller then the inlet or outlet of your hardware, it restricts flow more than the hardware can do itself. Like he said the Orpheus that fuel was returning through was too small even though he tried A-line larger than the output orpheus. That means the return orifice itself was the restriction, it was too small so he went to the larger alternate return orifice. Sometimes the restriction is internal. Always have sufficient fuel line size. Always check that anywhere there is a orpheus or something that is in-line like fuel filter, that your input and output of that filter or part is equivalent or larger than the pump output, also make sure your in/out on the regulator is adequate for the application. I know this is fuel 101 but someone might not have thought of it. This is not my channel to give advice so this is just my own experience. Follow the manufactures recomendations.
