  • Accepting and loving your ADHD is important, as this will not only improve your self-worth but also your life. With lots of negativity constantly spread by todays media about the condition, it is easily forgotten that ADHD actually has lots of upsides and positive qualities / advantages which can work in our favor, if harnessed correctly, all of which do come natural to us and do not require medication!
    These include:
    1. Creativity
    2. Enthusiasm
    3. Risk Taking/Adaptability
    4. Hyperfocus (superpower)
    5. Resilience
Why? Check out my explanations within the video to find this out.

I can focus on 3 tasks maximum. However the fact that teachers did not recognize this talent, and tried to push me under in order to make me behave like other kids - there is something that they did not realize. Novelty seeking is inate to ADHD. I was not annoying my teachers just for the sake of it, I was simply trying to get new emotional experiences. But I was expelled from classes, and I did know why, it's a miracle that I got a higher education, and became an officer in the army. I guess strong willpower overbalances our emotional disbalance. For all of you out there with ADHD: remember that you have strong willpower, it is simply misdirected, because the modern education system is geared towards agrarian peoples, and not hunter-gatherers. In paleolithic age, ADHD was an advantage, as it made hunter-gatherers with this trait more likely to catch a prey, and feed the whole tribe. If you can direct your ADHD it in a right direction, you will be way ahead of your neurotypical peers. It is hard, but possible. Even without drugs like Ritalin, or Methamphetamine.

One ADHD thing that I love is that we almost have a secret language. Sure, ADHD people speak the same actual language as the people they grew up around, but because we jump around different topics, and our timelines are never straightforward it can be difficult for neurotypical people to follow what an ADHD person is saying. Especially when we get excited and talk too fast. However, when two ADHD people are talking to each other the conversation twists and turns and goes off on crazy tangents that nobody else can understand but the two people talking. It's brilliant!

I once said to my friend who also has ADHD that our brains just are faster because of it. Now that I think of it, when I do something that I love, like painting and creating, I am super-efficient if I am able to do it in peace and without distractions. If I am comfortable in an environment that I work in, I can achieve so much. Knowing the goods and bads of ADHD and what they mean to you is one of the keys to start living fully and accepting yourself. Thanks for the video.

I'm 38 and there wasn't even ADHD when I was a kid... The Dr diagnosed me as hyperactive and my parents cut off my supply of e numbers (Sweets and Juice).
Since turning adult, I've had a son who's now nearly 20. We were talking about medication and I told him that I don't like the idea of it and that I'd rather enjoy the good aspects of ADHD, I've trained myself to live with and love it.
My Son on the other hand says that he loves his medication and that it helps him concentrate and that it's made his life better and easier.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

ADD/ADHD definitely existed and was diagnosed back then. Maybe not around your parts but it definitely got diagnosed plenty, coming from a 35 yr old.
But they weren't as good at spotting it, and the breadth of symptoms and the depth of their effects on our lives were not understood like they are now that's for sure.
Anyway great to hear you've found something that works for your ADHD. I only really definitely found out around 1.5-2 years ago. Meds don't help me much too many side-FX, so searching for non-narcotic actuvities or tips has been my thing for the past while.

I am still in the process of healing from the scars ADHD inflicted up me. I got diagnosed late into my life (i turned 30 this year so.....yeah). Got into a destructive, addictive cycle of self pity and excuses that stemmed from issues from ADHD and trauma. It wasn't until my wife came into my life and pushed me to get diagnosed (which took years due the self pity).
Thing is though, my ADHD got me passed over on promotions, on track and field, cross country, school.....hell my dad once said I was never meant to learn how to drive and was just a dumbass for not being able to focus (i proved that fool wrong obviously. (All it took was my wife to be supportive and encourage me). Got treated very differently from the other kids, teachers, and people to the point my self esteem barreled straight into the fucking abyss for years.
Its a part of me and im slowly learning to love it. Just right now, my perspective and feelings on the matter complicated. This video will certainly help that, thank you.

I think people with adhd are more intuitive than the person thar dosen't,we're also very good at reading non verbal language. We may not know how we know where we're getting our information but it's usually dead strait on! I love having adhd is hard but because we have to work harder than most too. I think my ADHD makes me obsessed with good balance and variety, the more balanced I am the easier it is to triggered my hyper focus when I need it, the more variety I have about everything, the less I get bored. Everytime I find a good trick to help me doing things easier, I got bored of it very fast, so I do a rotation of my tricks. I am also an hypersensitive everything that is not good for me will be feel very strongly so I accept it as a protective mechanism.

I'm a lot about Ritual, I sit on my dest and look around, do I have everything I need to start working? (A Glass of water, do I need to pee, are my cats fed, glasses, notebook) to not get more distracted by those thing. Now I go on youtube and put some isochronique beat, and I kind of do the easy things first that will keep me attracted by my desk and the fact of not moving around, check my mails, read/listen to something That fits with the job I'm gonna do. Since I am an artist, I like to watch digital drawing process, going around Pinterest to get inspired. When I feel ready I take a deep breath and I start working. So it's all about creating all the little habbits that will make me do the main goal, cuz the main goal seems impossible if I do not go by all these little things, so identify the little steps to creat the right path to achieve the main goal. I also no longer go on facebook for more than a year and it helped a lot, because I am someone who cares a lot for my friends but they are not right there here with me, so I'm not suppose to care right now (i still have messenger but no notification is shoing on my screen)

My life suddenly made sense when she suggested it, and no I am not successful. Have just lost my minimum wage factory job. Really struggling at the moment but my daughter is convinced that I have adhd. According to a therapist I’ve been seeing I could also have ‘elements’ of bi polar. So yes a fresh start is great, but at 52 years of age I am wondering where the hell I go from here.

i clearly dislike my disabilities and there's no way anyone can change my mind for that. i mix-up memories regularly which leads to disppointments and i have to deal with them weekly. i have the old man's memory pain since i turned 17. i have feelings towards way too young girls. i'm also upset about all my co-morbids and not only can't i stick my own sleep plans, i also fail to eat or drink regularly and i'm surely not able to finish my studyings especially not during this pandemic.
and i feel lonely. even though i might have had some fun hours ago. that just vanishes and feels like never really happened. that's a real issue with that disorder. i do mean the constant sensory overload that prevents efficient memory consolidation. that also happens on its own, without the weight of boredom, hopelessness and stuff that literally screams for stress relieve inside me.. every.. single.. second..
but the best thing anyone can technically say to us - and i mean that by heart - is wishing us a productive and happy life.
aw common not even i can write me out of this damn depressive thoughts. i go meditate now, havent eaten, havent slept.. that's wonderful like every day.. and the worse of it.. i'm not even important with my struggles! there are fucking suicidals working around bridges to "get used to it"! that's depressive man..

This perspective only really looked at ADHD from the hyperactive presentation type. As someone having the inattentive presentation type I couldn't relate to a lot of it. Life of the party? No way. Working in sales would be a disaster. Impulsivity presents differently as well. Also, most evidence shows people with ADHD are affected by criticism more than neurotypicals, not less. Likely due to the very common comorbidity of rejection sensitivity dysphoria.

Unfortunately I only discovered this at 38 years old. I am now thriving in many ways as a 40 year old. I wish I knew about the benefits when I was younger. I am grateful for it in many ways, including giving me a healthier hyperfocus than that of dissecting the government's response to the last 2+years.
Hope this info blesses someone as much as it has for me

I have ADHD and I agree with the adaptability part, but not overthinking life choices I completely disagree with, I feel like I overthink almost everything that I do

I don't know man, the way I see it considering it as a gift and working with your ADHD trails are not mutually exclusive. You can still consider it as an overall negative thing but still work with it.
The first thing that comes into my mind is how the reward system works differently and using that knowledge to your advantage, for example by giving yourself short term rewards, or using similar workaround adapted to how the ADHDer brain's differences.
Someone who does not know they have it might try tactics which work for "regular" folks but then some of them fail and they do not know why, some assume it to be a personal failing and that leads to other issues, I know it did for me. Knowing that you have it and then informing yourself about it is the foundation in order to work with it.

Finding out super late in life, blows. Even after some successes, the rearview of what could have been, if you'd known earlier, can be gut-wrenching. Knowing, is still helpful, because it explains so much. So are resources, with coping tips, like this channel. I do appreciate my "superpowers". But sadly, they're often at their most useful for fixing mistakes, big and small, madeNo because of my impulsivity, risk taking... Wish I could have skipped it, but grateful for some gifts I only have, because of it.

I was actually extremely excited and happy when I found out I most likely have ADHD, because I've felt different then others for so many years, my sister used to tell me to shut up because I spoke so much. (she's actually my best friend now don't worry 😁)
I can't focus on any project for more then a week no matter how many sticky/posty notes I slap on my laptop.
Writing is a pain because I continuously change the subject about what im Writing about.
I can't focus on watching a video for more then 2 minutes without randomly tabbing out both mentally and on the laptop :p
Playing minecraft with ADHD is hilarious to watch though, like seriously have you ever recorded yourself playing a sandbox game and realized how much you switch what your doing?

I'm just saying... I'm sure a lot of your audience is ADHD and waiting for the conclusion for finale is tough LOL

Lol because I dont have the hyperactive portion that second one burned a little. I definitely cannot fake enthusiasm. I'm so laid back a lot of people don't believe I could be ADHD. I tell them the circus is in my head except when i'm focused, and that it's called inattentional ADHD.
Yeah I couldn't imagine being hyperactive ON TOP of other ADHD symptoms..When i watch videos with a woman with hyperactive ADHD it's like omg i can feel your pent up energy vibrating out of your voice alone lol it's crazyyy. They also have a lot of accidents whether falling over or burning themselves (one woman told of reaching through boiling water she was pouring from cooking pasta to grab something, forgetting it was boiling.) So cooking, or tripping etc...

And exactly that one when you are beaten down by events just get up and dont uses any energy on thinking more of what disaster lays behind, just for analyzing, learning and correcting your emotions and acts so they give a better result. When Im beaten to my knees by people, authorities or society I just finding out the best way to change and adapt for better outcome in my visions of my and others life. A hunter or warrior who did not recover fast was a dead one and as dead they are useless for the contribution of the tribe.

Haha personally I can't relate at all to the part about how apparently often people with ADHD are enthusiastic and the life of the party. Only with some sort of substance was that ever remotely true in my experience. Then again I'm an introvert.

Saying if a celebrity can do it so can you is a pretty harmful message, success is determined by so much more than hard work, and this could lead to people feeling really bad about themselves for not being able to reach the same level of success or feeling likethey are even more of a failure because other people with ADHD are clearly thriving

I love my ADHD sometimes. We have so many great abilities and strenghts but our souronding wastes it and can not understand hat they do when wasting lives. We are hunters and also many warriors. And all those good things people take for granted had not existed. Maybe not them either if they not lived in a total peaceful world and were Vegans.
