      Hi!
I would like to advise you on not using that automatic translation function for the titles. I think you as a creator can turn it off.
Just to give you an idea, "mean comments" was translated to Portuguese as "median/medium comments" and not as "bad comments".
      Congrats on the videos, Max!

Honestly, what Max is producing here is a uniquely accessible living history experience. As a military history nerd, it's not something I can effectively reproduce. Well, at least more than once. Around the time I use a reproduction Roman gladius to skewer someone I dislike is about the time I end up with a murder charge and room and board for life. It's just something that's utterly infeasible.
But, cooking? We do that anyways. I mean, you should be. For one meal, you can experience something that may have been enjoyed ten, fifty, a hundred, even thousands of years ago. It provides you a compelling, if fleeting glimpse into the human experience from long, long ago. So, Max, your channel is awesome and I hope you continue for years and years to come.

She'd say it and offer a cookie or piece of candy and it was her way of warning us kids if we were being impolite. But it was actually good advice since you're a lot less likely to blurt out something mean if your mouth is full.

Ralph's is just a regional Kroeger store name in California. If you have a Kroeger, Dillons, King Soopers, or one of the many other regional Kroeger stores, then you essentially have a Ralph's. It's your basic large chain grocer, not a fancy specialty market. It's not even comparable to Whole Foods. Just a basic large chain grocery store maybe ever so slightly fancier than Wal-Mart.

Max doesn’t start his videos demanding everyone go out and buy the udder of Himalayan mountain goat, and a handful of some long extinct herb and spend a year making some vile fermented concoction. He does the weird, and sometimes vile, cooking so that we don’t need to. Knowing that people actually used to cherish some of these vile concoctions is good enough, and entertaining enough, for me. There have been more than a few of these historic recipes that I’ve made, because they sound good, or are culturally significant to me, or the story is so compelling.

Even if the historical recipe is not as good as a more modern one there usually is a choice of newer/alternative recipes in the comment section. So your channel is a treasure trove of recipes that are unusual, from other regions or times gone by to find inspiration.

And now I want to make jalebi to spite that guy. (Though, does that mean he's been making all of the other recipes?? Impressive!) Even out in the sticks in Maryland you can get rosewater at an international grocery store.

Max, I just watched the first Mean Comments this morning, and I wanted you to know that, as a new subscriber/watcher the last few weeks (and new cookbook purchaser) I have never seen someone handle critique/cruelty with such effortless good nature and charm. You must be very secure in who you are, and I think you should be. Keep up the good content, man!

    😂 "The hunky guy".
I was watching your short on Everlasting Syllabub (which resembles my mother's eggnog‽) yesterday and over my shoulder, my wife happened to catch your eyebrow raise right before you tasted it. "Oh, now i see why you watch him!", she said.
I'm not going to be the creepy guy, and for sure the history you present is the main reason I watch your channel. But the scenery doesn't hurt!
    Merry Christmas!

My daughter and I find your rambling to be incredibly soothing. Could we have a video or two of unedited, ramble-ful episodes? For us to put on in the background while I'm cleaning or baking or whatever. It would really help to reduce stress in our household. Because who doesn't want to hear the ramblings of a beautiful, beautiful historical chef?

Your voice and mannerisms are the main reason I've recommended this channel to others (as well as wow factor, such as the Molasses Flood). They are fantastic. Not only is your channel entertaining, but soothing. I watch your videos throughout, but specifically when I'm overwhelmed or having a bad day. Your videos are distracting, positive, and entertaining without taking up literal hours of my time. Thank you Max for this channel, and Merry Christmas to all of you.
P.S.- I have literally never cooked anything from your channel and will not apologize for it, lol. I watch to be entertained, not motivated or educated in culinary affairs.

The Great Molasses Flood video hit me close to home. I grew in the Boston area. I would often stroll through the North End of Boston in the summer. You can still catch a whiff of century old molasses creeping out of the deep crack and crevices. I make the Boston Brown Bread and Hermit Cookies on the regular (just finished off a batch yesterday). The bakery I worked at in my teens (many years ago) used to make hermit bars. And I’ve eaten my body weight in them over the past half century.
      And it’s a great video.

I Enjoy your accents, and honestly, one of the things that caught my attention besides the history (I love learning history- especially how they did stuff- like cooking,) is your excellent diction. Most people's speech these days is so lazy! Your speech is very precise and clear! I also enjoy your "rambling:" gives/shows character & personality! I love that you try totally "out there" recipes from the past & give an opinion on them. It allows us to have a taste vicariously of things we might never try! I also like that you give the recipe in a format that we can try it if we'd like to!! As a homeschool mom, combining the math of cooking with the uniqueness and culture of history is such a great tool to keep my rambunctious, non-studious boys engaged in hands-on learning!! Love your channel & keep up the excellent work!!! ~Liz

I like being able to see the historical process of the recipe and what it might taste like or look like in person, and I think it adds content you really can't get from a more "documentary" style video. I very much support the value of tasting history's videos as documented recreations and analysis of historical recipes. It's not just reciting information.
