I've always has plenty of strenght in my back BUT very moment when holding something in half streched arms (like holding newspaper or washing dishes) I experience quite severe cramping after 2min already, in mid area of back... so I need to constantly adjust position (basicaly finding one that is less natural and less practical in completing those tasks). I really appreciate how you say there’s no perfect sleeping position for your neck and shoulders and that we should try it out. And same for sitting at the desk. Trying so hard to do it “the right way” just adds stress and makes things worse! So thanks for the more reasonable and practical advice here.

This video really helped me alleviate the concerns I had about the chronic pains I had on my upper back. Before watching this video, I always thought that the pain and soreness was some kind of back pain that I unfortunately just had to "deal" with. The fact that I was able to properly learn possible true origin of the discomfort and learn some simple and effective exercise to alleviate it is a tremendous weight (which probably also contributed to my chronic pain) off my back. Most importantly, the way he emphasized the difference between causes of the pain that I CAN control and those that are beyond it really made the problem seem more manageable.

I've had that pain under my shoulder blade for almost 15 years, I followed these exercises and I was blown away at the relief I felt just after an hour or so being very particular about the form. That rhomboid pain is so annoying because it's so difficult to pin point where exactly it's coming from but at times it would be so bad I'd feel like I couldn't breathe. Also, my back would make nasty popping and tearing noises if I leaned to the right. Stress definitely makes it worse, so does caffeine - I feel like this video was made for me specifically. Thank you for stressing how important it is to alternate positions and find what’s best for you. I did so much more damage by spending years trying to force my shoulders back and down and my body into the “right” posture when some of the “wrong” ways it was naturally landing were really my body compensating for my weak-ass ligaments. Now I’m trying to unlearn the habit of subconsciously forcing myself into rigid “good” posture and letting my body do what it needs to depending on what joints are acting up that day. It’s such a hard habit to unlearn. I have a friend who had some lumbar vertebrae fused in an ultimately botched surgery and his physical therapists were relentless about making him bend over to touch his toes anyway even though his bones literally could not move like that. My mom had surgery on her wrist as a kid and it can’t rotate the same as a normal one and they still made her do pull-ups in gym with them in the position she physically could not use, refusing to let her modify her grip on the bar. One size fits all advice for stuff like this causes so, so much damage. It’s always encouraging to see people acknowledge the fact that we’re all gonna be a little different and that not holding one position for too long at a time is more important than making sure you’re in the “right” one. I’ll be unlearning that dangerous lesson for years to come. The more people get advice like -this- early, the better

Great video with great recommendations! It really is a breath of fresh air to hear a health professional say that there are somethings that we can't control and perfection is not what the patient should strive to. It is very discouraging when health professionals speak about solutions as an all-or-nothing and leave no space for well, life! life happens and sometimes people are just not able to follow a regime. I truly appreciate how you handle your advice; this type of tone, personally, gives me more hope and desire to help my body feel better. Thank you!

One is a product called the BackPod, which I've never used, but have made something similar that I lie on and crack my back with. Also, as I just replied to someone, I've found that taking 500mg of aspirin every morning greatly reduces the urge to stretch or crack my back throughout the day.
