@@davidarneson6514 It didn't get a lot of love when it came out from people I know for some reason, but the cast, story and action are too fun to watch just once!
I would also recommend the "How to Train Your Dragon" trilogy on 4K. Simply put one of the best animated film fantasy trilogies of all time and looks amazing on 4K! :)
Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves is super Underrated and everyone should see it! The more I think about it the more I like and want to watch it again! The 4K looks and sounds amazing by the way.
Beastmaster is also available in 4K courtesy of Vinegar Syndrome. It's on the more expensive side and some of the scenes don't look the best. Unfortunately the original negatives were damaged as informed by a foreword on this release and they had to scan the interpositive. However it's likely this is the best this movie will ever look and is a must-have for classic fantasy fans.

Great list Adam! I have about half of these movies. I love the Lord Of Rings and Hobbit movies. I picked up The Green Knight and 3000 Years Of Longing because of your channel and absolutely loved them both. There was some cool fantasy films put out by Deaf Crocodile, one even has a dragon, but they're not in 4k. Anyway, thanks for more movies to check out.
Adam got a haircut. My grandson and I watched the 4K of Return Of The King last night. Looked so good in 4K. I have all the Lord Of The Rings/Hobbitt movies on 4K steelbook, also have Dragonslayer, Dragon Heart, Coraline, Wizard Of Oz, Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon, Life Of Pi(Blu-ray). Might have to finally get The Green Knight if it's that good.
Totally with you on LOTR as an achievement, let alone on the 4k! I still maintain that taken as a single work, the LOTR trilogy is the single greatest achievement ever put to film.
Such a gargantuan story to undertake and smash it out of the park with the result. And I congratulate the ENTIRE team, WETA with the costuming and sets, Howard Shore with the master soundtrack, and Jackson & co with such a great job at adapting the books with as much care as possible.
I agree with the LOTR 4K editions. Yeah the DNR is noticeable and it sucks that they used it, however it is definitely not nearly the worst use of it, and I think the new color grading and HDR are a MASSIVE improvement over the Blu Rays
The lotr and hobbit is probably my favorite fantasy movies of all time. Masterpieces. I would definitely recommend Harry Potter in that notion as well. Honorable mentions would be Willow, Neverending story, kubo, the lion the witch & the wardrobe, and avatar. Great selections yourself as well.
@iloveblue7920 I thought about that, too. But there's a lot of landscape for me to not consider it fantasy. There's not a lot of sci fis that focuses on the geographical aspect being part of the story. And the civilization there as well. With all the colors it just seems fantasy driven for me. Like the movie John Carter I consider fantasy. Still in space but no ships. To each there own though. Appreciate the feedback.
Awesome video Adam! Fantasy films were huge to me too growing up. I have almost all those titles except Coraline, Scorpion King, and King Arthur. I too am really looking forward to Conan!
We need a states side release of Never Ending Story so bad! I imported the German release and like it but the audio is different as well as one of the voices. It was just off putting enough.
Hansel & Gretel; Witch Hunters was surprisingly good! Along with The Shape of Water could be part of the conversation. I really liked them. Thanks for the video.
Some good choices there, Adam! A couple of nits, though. You mentioned starting with “Lord of the Rings” and then moving on to “The Hobbit”. That’s only in regards to release date, though. In the lore, “The Hobbit” comes before “The Lord of the Rings”. Also, you suggest, “The Scorpion King” but fail to mention the movie it owes itself to: “The Mummy” (1999)? While cases can be made for the Star Wars movies (“A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away” is the same as “Once Upon a Time”) and the various Superhero movies (face it, they’re all Fantasy); These are some movies I would add to the list: “The Mummy” (1999) “Robin Hood” (2010) “Highlander” (1986) “Ghostbusters” (1984) “Flash Gordon” (1980) “The Princess Bride” (1987) Supposed to come out in September Also, some Fantasy movies I’d like to see come to the 4K format: “What Dreams May Come” (1998) “Jason and the Argonauts” (1963) (really, any and all of the Ray Harryhausen films) “The Three Musketeers” (1973) and “The Four Musketeers" (1974) “Conan The Barbarian” (1982) You mentioned this in the video “Ladyhawke” (1985) “Excalibur” (1981) You mentioned this in the video
In regard to the Hobbit and LoTR, of course Hobbit comes first but you could watch in any order really given the Frodo/Bilbo book ends so it doesn’t necessarily matter. As for The Scorpion King , other then mentioning it as a spin off, literally it has nothing to do with The Mummy Returns other then the character. It’s barely related even in genre. The Mummy trilogy is clear adventure, Scorpion King is very adventure fantasy. So if your “nit” is just not mentioning the mummy connection, sure, but I don’t think it’s really necessary. You could watch this totally blind and not miss a thing.
Agree with LOTR and Hobbit they all look great in 4k. Excalibur is still 1 of my favorite all time movies I too hope for a 4k someday. I would also recommend The Mask of Zorro. Really good 4k.
I already own nearly all of these on 4K, but do need to check out the ones I haven't seen yet. Scorpion King has been in my wishlist for a while now - it's definitely hard to find in stock and at a reasonable price. Is there any word on 4K of the Green Lantern with Hal Jordan? There are so many great scenes that would look awesome in 4k. I had it on Blu-ray but my dog ate it. Just the DVD version survived. I definitely could have seen a sequel to that movie covering the creation of the ring that was created to combat the evil. I think it was yellow.
For LoTR in 4K, if you have a nice TV with Dolby Vision, and a good sound system that can do either 7.1 or Atmos absolutely get it in 4K. If not, like if you have a standard soundbar or using TV sound, stick with the Blu ray
the original Dark Crystal is already on 4k, it a total Classic. It really surprises me it is swept under carpet and not Mentioned. Probably because strong references to powers and Conspiracy. The newer Dark Crystal TV series on Netflix is Awsome and I only wish they release that on 4k.
