    Sadly enough, we made a mistake at 3:38. Instead of moving the top two rows of the UV map, we should actually enlarge them to match with the picture. Moving them w.r.t. the rest of the map created an offset which is incorrect. This happened due to severe oversight while recording the tutorial. Thanks for those who pointed it out. I hope viewers will be able to follow the basic technique, instead of following it verbatim 🙂

      Instead of shifting at all, simply resize it in the x-axis so that the two sides fit into each-other (Where the centers of the edge faces lie on the right&left side; it tiles perfectly, so this corrects the off-set.

    I don't like the black holes at the poles, so my solution is simply to set the initial resolution of the UV Sphere to be high enough, e.g., Segments:128, Rings 64, then all seems perfect. There is no need to change the UV map. 😉

    Hi, I know this is not entirely related to this video, but I would like to visualize the unwrapping of a sphere into a plane to explain backprojection. You do something very similar from 1:14 to 1:20. Since I am a complete beginner in Blender (have messed around for a couple of hours, but not many more), could you maybe point out where to start? Or some useful tutorials? There is so many Blender content that it's not easy knowing where to start. Thank you very much in advance!

      Sure! Let me just understand whether you want to learn basics of Blender, or whether you are interested to only create that one animation with a sphere and a plane. If you want to learn Blender from the scratch, we have a set of 12 short tutorials that will give you a nice grip on Blender. The only drawback is, these were created sometime back, the background music is relatively louder. If you can stand that, it will surely help you since I have created them only for someone like you who just opened Blender for the first time. • @5MinutesBlender
      @5MinutesBlender  3 месяца назад

      In which application do you want to do that? When user hovers - means it can't be a simple animation because it needs your app to have the capability to capture user interaction (tap or touch) and get the tap/touch location. Blender cannot do that. Probably an android app would be better suitable for that.

    Sorry but at 2:30, where exactly are the rectangles? I see triangles, or am I missing something?

    • @5MinutesBlender
      @5MinutesBlender  2 года назад +1

      The triangles are actually rectangles. We made them meet at the pole. In place of 0.01 for the size in the previous step, if you enter 0.1 or 0.2, you'll see that those are actually rectangles. Since they met at the pole with size 0.01, they now look like triangles. The sole purpose of this step was to convert triangles into rectangles. But these rectangles have one side almost equal to zero, so they appear as triangles.

    Why deleting the start cube in first place, when u can make a perfect tiled sphere out of it XD, i dont understand... ?
    This can only be a result of a " deleting startcube cult "
    By the way, texture ressources are online avaiable free from NASA, this is maybe the infite tutorial topic, its here since more then a decade ...
    ( I can say, it really looks pretty with 8K textures, but dont mind the load when putting 8K normal map on your globe XD and animate clouds...
    But, i cannot understand why deleting CUBY1 all the time, when u can just start modeling with it :P

    • @5MinutesBlender
      @5MinutesBlender  2 года назад

      Ha Ha 😂 I know about this "Delete the default cube" trend and I am always cautious not to fall into it. In fact, we did several tutorials where we used the default cube for modeling. However, in this case it is easier to use a sphere instead of converting the cube into a sphere (which is possible, I know). These tutorials are mostly for the beginners 🙂 You are definitely a pro!

It's weird that most people don't realise the NASA textures are actually designed to work with UV spheres and are called equirectangular maps... which is in the drop down menu of the Environment Image Node... people use the wrong node... set it to Smart and Sphere and bingo, no stretching at the poles....simples.
