      I think this is a notable step towards integrated optics on handguns. In a decade it would surprise me if some new guns don't just have the optic built into the slide. Seems like the obvious next step, and this is about as close as you get to that without actually doing it.

      It seems to me that the better question is why would you need to remove an optic ?
      As we eliminate reasons to remove them, the reasons to make them integral become more of a plus. It's just like anything else really, if there's no notable reason to remove it, and being integral increases quality, why would you forgo the quality for the unnecessary ability to remove it? I like tinkering and fine tuning myself, but from an overall perspective of just making the best thing for the most amount of people, that's pretty standard operations.

      I just bought a 508T X2, and I recently got a G17 MOS, since then I've been thinking every day if I should switch to an SCS (and not need to put high sights or a C&H plate). What did you find between your current SCS and the 508Tx2? Is it worth changing?

    • @vincentc2466
      @vincentc2466 2 года назад +5

      @@gristelli I got you on this bro. I'm reallllly happy i switched and i was in the same boat as you not long ago. i only had my 508T X2 for maybe 6 months Here's my reasons...
      #1 eliminates potential adapter plate failures. my glock oem plate was bent on arrival just like aaron said and i had to get a new one from them. i've also seen some recent complains about reliability of C&H plate online. i used a torque tool on the screws and marked them with a white oil-based sharpie and i finally feel 100% confident my optic is not coming off
      #2 SCS auto-adjust is just better than 508T manual adjust. i don't know how they did it but like aaron said it works great. manual adjusting is not practical for me IWB every time i change environments or remembering throughout the day.
      #3 sits lower profile for more natural shooting
      #4 lower profile a tad better for concealing and a tad less snagging risk
      #5 works with OEM glock sights (i left mine on even with the 508T bc i knew the SCS was coming and i might try it). changing irons looks like a pain especially if they don't zero perfectly on first try. i don't care that they're plastic.
      #6 the optic width is flush with my G19 slide so it looks and feels nice unlike the 508T which overhangs the sides oddly
      Reasons not to:
      #1 you hate green dot. it's only in green due to battery life reasons. I was really hesitant about green but now i like it as much or maybe even better than red, it's hard to say
      #2 concerned about battery lifespan. if you look at owner's manual you will see that this thing needs sunlight to realistically charge itself. Although holosun reps told me that it's basically impossible to completely kill the battery even with IWB and using indoors only bc indoor lighting is enough to operate it even when battery is drained. There are low battery indications starting at 30% i believe. Also, the battery is 20k hours or 2.2 years and holosun will install a new battery should it ever completely drain (owner's manual seems to have typo that says 200k hours). i'm OK if i need to send it to them in 1-2 years. By that time there might even be a newer optic on the market that i want.
      #3 you prefer circle dot or circle reticles as opposed to just the dot. that will drastically reduce battery life so it doesn't seem to me a solar only design is good for those IMO
      #4 don't feel like re-training a little. initially my SCS dot was at the top of my window just due to the height difference with 508T. however, the window size difference is not noticeable at all to me.
      #5 your wife will know that you are buying another optic to replace your brand new optic and use it as leverage on you

    • @gristelli
      @gristelli 2 года назад

      @@vincentc2466 Thanks for clarifying these points. The number #5 reasons not to switch to scs is real and perhaps one of the most dangerous lol. It's a hell of a sun here, I believe the battery would recharge more than I could use it, even if I prefer dot and circle (you were right on this one). What worries me is if these internal batteries have a relatively short lifespan, even Holosun committing to change the internal battery (months without the red dot). Another point was about having a much smaller window than the 508T X2, which from what you said is almost imperceptible. I had opted for the 508 to install on the Masada, but I was going to have to change screws and go against what IWI recommended. For me, here in Brazil, where a red dot, some high sights and an adapter plate cost 10x more than in the US, not having to go after each of the extra elements is peace of mind. And if the SCS still adjusts itself perfectly, wonderful, one less thing to worry about at the time that supposedly there will be a lot to worry about. Thank you so much for the tip, and if all goes well, tomorrow I'll get the credit card from the account that my wife doesn't have access to and pass the SCS lol

      @@gristelli no problem! If you're in brazil you deserve the best lol ive seen the videos of bandits on their motorcycles. I think you will be happy with it. The battery lifespan should be fine, i think i used the wrong word. Battery rechargeability is what i should have said. But if yours will see sunlight (mine does not) then you should be in great shape. I believe it takes a week of charging outdoors to charge battery from 0 to 100%. You can call Holosun too if you want, someone usually answers the phone quickly and they are usually helpful. Worst case scenario, you can put your 508T back on while they change battery, but it sounds like you will never need that.

    Awesome Review! I picked up the SCS MOS for my Gen 5 G20 last month and I just got my Gen 5 G21 and I am planning to get a SCS for it and the Gen 5 G22 that currently has a Holosun 507c ver.2.0 Green because the SCS is as much of a Game changer today as the 507c was 5 years ago. I also have a Gen 4 G41 that has an Original 507c Red that will eventually end up with the SCS MOS and the 507c will go on other pistols or rifles that I have because I still like the 507c but for a Glock with MOS it is CRAZY not to go with a SCS MOS since there is no need for the plate and the unit follows the same pattern as the rear serrations which to me is a very nice attention to Detail that Holosun did. I have the New P320 X-Ten and I am waiting for that unit to be released so I can put it on my X-Ten.
    Aaron was your T/E unit made of Titanium or Aluminum? I know that Holosun went with Titanium for the MOS unit but it looks like all the other releases as of right now are going to be Aluminum and I am trying to figure out why.

    Purchased mine and used it for 500 rounds and sad to say, despite my initial excitement, I’m going to be returning mine this week. The bloom on the 2 MOA dot was way too intense and wasn’t as clean as my friend’s R1PRO. Was really hoping for a better test run, the SCS 320 user manual called for 15 inch lbs of torque and the optic became loose after 350-400 rounds. I don’t have astigmatism and asked a few others to look through the optic and verify my findings.

    I have two of these mounted on Walther PDP pistols. Something I noticed is even with the optic off, it helps me pickup the iron sights faster. With a flashlight mounted on the pistol, acquiring the stock sights at night is much faster through the optic glass than without the optic mounted. This model optic is the sweet spot for me. I have other optics but suddenly they are silly compared to the SCS.

    The flat top design is why it doesn't break. The 508T and 509T both have a flat top also. It allows all the shock to go down besides the glass--- where an arch optic pushes the impact right into the glass as it flexes. The RMR has those 'ears at the top, which does the same thing-- causes the impact to transfer down the sides of the housing, and not into the glass..

    • @pdxmarine1430
      @pdxmarine1430 2 года назад

    • @calholli
      @calholli 2 года назад +1

      @@pdxmarine1430 Yeah, I wondered why myself... Are they just making them thicker? Are they forged? I'm not sure why the 507 works great, but the swampfox breaks on the second drop every time? Personally, I just bought both 508T and 509T-- the square top Titanium definitely isn't going to break. I bought both of them for under $300 on quick sales on ebay--- but since then, they seem to stay over $400 now. People caught on to how great they are, and inflation isn't helping prices on Anything.

      @@calholli Yeah I switched out the RMR on my P320 with a 509t, and my P365xl is running the 507k until the EPS carry comes out. I think the frame of the Holosuns is just pretty thick and that is what gives it the ability to hold up to drops where other domed red dots fail. That extra thickness just gives it enough rigidity to avoid breaking the glass on impact
