At 20, I wanted to be an Ironworker. At 36 I'm glad I never got in.
Nice video. Nothing but respect.
what did you end up doing?

Curious as to why your glad you never got in?

The trades are rough. Especially when you get older. Even with the current trade, I get up in the morning and sit on the edge of my bed and say Jeez, here we go again. It takes a ton of effort to finally get up from that bed. By 9, once you had a bit of coffee and a bit of hustle you kind of get into it. By 4 o'clock when I come home I am a carcass. When you finally stop moving your body starts pointing out all these parts that start hurting; knees, back, elbows, neck etc etc. Just gets worse with age.
I can just imagine being in that sun hustling on top of those beams. Jeez.
Spoke with an Ironworker who was about my age, he was foreman or something to that affect. He complained of being a walking invalid essentially.
I don’t care what they pay these guys , it’s not enough especially when they are responsible for building these BILLION DOLLAR Skyscrapers
Searched it up......"The average salary for a ironworker is $31.13 per hour in British Columbia." I thought the job pays much much more.
@@amorvincitomnia4584 alot of those are out of date. If you search up plumbers wage in Ontario it says 30 something per/hr but its actually 51
its actually a decent paying job
@@hockeyandsoccer4ever Jut curious bro, I'll be going to school to be an electrician. You think they make close to $50-60 hr? Google says $30
@@BallyakaJuggyD Depends on where you are and the company. WORST case scenario you start out in the high teens, $50-60 after a few years of experience is likely. If you work in any trade on a construction site, you're definitely going to be working a lot of overtime as well and that adds up big time.

AND I hear Pink Floyd Echoes, brilliant gents!
ya what a solid choice eh. meddle is my favourite friggin album!
Props to the crew; it's real hard work compared to what I have to do for 8 hours a day.

My Dad and Grandad were both ironworkers for life...Local 97. Great video:) Love and respect boys!
Love the Pink Floyd in the background, and the wheeeee when riding the iron mid video...definitely something my Dad would’ve said haha. Miss that crazy MF!
Being an iron worker was one the hardest jobs I’ve done in my life. Cool experience and it’s awesome to see the building come together from scratch to finish. The hardest part for me is working with steel in -20c to -30c, the heights can be intimidating specially when its windy and you can feel the structure steel swaying a bit from the wind.
Awesome to to see this randomly pop up on my feed. Brought back memories some good and bad lol

jeez you really gotta climb that shit, respect
My old man did lots of connecting and rebar throughout BC since he was 23. Always proud of his line of work, i know ill never have the guts he has lol
Wow. Courage, safety, honest work on a beautiful design. Can't wait to see the finished building. Well done Local 97 !!
It’s not beautiful. But it is an engineering masterpiece.
@@CanadaSims When I saw the end result of the building I just heard in my head Lee Ermey yell "What the fuck is that??"
@@DIY_DISASTERZ my god, it's all crooked!
I was in the trades for a long time, I think iron worksers are insane but also probably the most badass trade in the industry. Mad respect .
My palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy, watching the vid. Great job guys!
Moms spaghetti…
Love watching the coordination with the Crain guy, I’m with UA 853 sprinkler fitters of Ontario. Thank you for for putting up the frame work for other trades to do there jobs, provide housing and commercial opportunities for everyone. You guys are great,
Those who make our homes and views, where height seems an afterthought....but always respected. Great to see the team work, the inside of what holds y'all up there.
Having lived in Vancouver the majority of my life and spent some of those years as a high-rise window cleaner you definitely get to see the city in a way that most never experience. Be safe out there bud 👍
Nice! I'm a sparkie across the street working at the VPO. been watching this go up for the last 2 years. Cool to see it from your guys' angle. keep up the good work.
LU 97 member here. Nice work boys! Slick video.
Stunning views, i love it
You high rise boys getting to actually do the trade properly! Nicely done! As an operator, it’s hard to watch the boys here in Alberta regress from walking the steel to trying to do everything from inside a man lift. Props to you guys!
Here before this video has 10 million views !
Thanks for sharing this with us. I just graduated from the Civil engineering technology program at SAIT, in my final semester I took structural steel design. I actually designed all the different components seen in this video. Members such as: beams, colums, baseplate, OWSJ, metal decks and connects. Seeing them being assembled is really nice. I will send this video to my prof for future classes. Thanks once again

Great video my brother Canadians, you guys are awesome man keep up the good work. I love watching badass Ironworkers at work,
oll Dave local 433.
I’m doing the hvac on this building! Good job!
Love the Floyd
I spent 8 years as a scaffolder so I'm no stranger to heights, but the shit you guys do is beyond anything I ever had to do. Worst was working on lumber cranes. You guys are pros.

This is hands down the best structural video on RUclips. Kudos Brothers, awesome vid! Local 771
Thanks brother, glad you liked it!
I loved my time in Saskabush. Charlie Gamulchuck was so effing good to me as a second year apprentice. I got dispatched to the upgrader making the rate. What a fun job.
Love the pink floyd music in the background
Cool perspective of the area. I especially like the way the library looks as you panned by, and now I'm going to listen to some Floyd
such a unique building. you and your guys must be proud to work on something so incredible
I use to be a welder years ago and had to retire due to my health. This job is not for everyone. The safety and preparation is always spot on. No room for error. These guys are tougher then the steel they work on.
You had me at Pink Floyd Echoes
Never really done a whole lot of iron work but have always had an appreciation for the people that do. This is a testament to the things you go through. Shit's crazy. Much respect.
well if you ever do watch 2:17 and dont. The guy has his elbow like an inch away from his cutting torch. I mean its one thing to be tough and handle all the sparks stabbing at you ya i can do that but a 4,000 degree cutting torch that close to your arm is a good way to lose an arm. And theres no kind of pain like 2nd and 3rd degree burns ive had it and its the worst pain in the world. All the stuff these guys do is scary and dangerous as heck but atleast they got harnesses. that was the most risky thing in the whole video imo.
Right on brother, shout out to y’all from local #75 Phoenix Arizona! Nice video brother, stay safe out there.
Thanks brother, you guys stay safe as well!
this is so cool! I pass by this on the daily! good work and thanks for sharing!

Y’all got balls of steel! Much respect!

Excellent music choice. One of my favorite Floyd tracks.
hey i came by and sprayed some of the fireproofing after you guys were done. Great project guys. Pleasure working with ya
Excellent music choice.
Looks like fun if it's good weather but absolute hell when it rains.
Just absolutely amazing to watch
Thanks for watching!
Go for it Canada 🇨🇦. I'm a retired ironworker local 433.
I've always wanted to try this out but friend of mine, a union scaffolder, said these heights take serious balls! Lots of guys have frozen up in the past at several hundred feet while building the towers around reactors and the likes for other trades to work from. Several lifts of scaffold and insulating a 8 story building wasn't bad for me, worked over open parapets with a harness but nothing of this magnitude. You have my respect!
After about a week or so you get used to the height, and a week off work your death instincts come back quick.
I think they’re looking for recruits.
OH MY GOSH. YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY
Awesome stuff from Local 721 Toronto!
Perfect use of a Pink Floyd song!
Most undervalued men in the world ironworkers
As a pipefitter I applaud you. Not enough Xanax could make me do what you guys do
I'm surprised you guys can still wear tool belts with those massive balls
LOL. Best comment.
With the spud wrenches and hammers the tool belts get heavy, surprisingly the massive balls play a good part in holding the tool belt up.
Amazing
When I was an Ironworker in Texas in the mid Seventies you had none of the crap they have now . You walked the Iron wherever you went and always stoned. No cables no lanyards. It was all about speed . The raising gang ,whoever got to the choker first won! Many harrowing incidents. Bolt up hands walked the steel everywhere and tied off at a point but that was it. Connecting was all about speed. Did my time on the Iron now Im skeared to get on a ladder Hahaha
So Awesome keep them coming
That was epic
Pink floyd- Echoes in the background 🖤
I want to do a job like this... have been building homes for 20 yrs. This is on a whole different level
Amazing video!

This is my dream! I have experience with this ind of work, bud this building exactly in Vancouver (great place) is something unbelievable. Lucky workers who can working there :)
How come the iron is all rusted? Doesn't it make it weak? I see the train tracks they are always rusted. I always wondered about it.

hands fucking DOWN thank you for your work! i would not do your job! you have my respect! thank you!
It’s pretty amazing how humans are able to do this
First day on this job is gripping the beam with white knuckles frozen, with bulging eyes saying ... nope I ain't moving just yet.

Awesome, more yours working videos 🙂👍💪
Wow! Pay these guys double . Unreal.

Cool looking building. We don’t get many structural buildings where I’m at anymore. All concrete. IW Local 135
Why concrete now? I see it in Denver Colorado too...
@@connormadden6771 they’re doing all these pour in place buildings because they’re quick and easy to engineer and build. We basically just go through and detail it out and do a little bit of structural on top.
@@calebcoleman9569 Hopefully as carbon pricing becomes more of a factor structural steel will come back in a big way.
@@gduteaud Steel is far more carbon-intensive than concrete.
I think you will be seeing more engineered wood beams.
