I live in LA and well id say the game does a good job in representing it. The north where the rich people live is very good looking, central is a bit uglier, and the south really is just run down, (like where the gangtas live maybe compton). As i play the game i dont think too much about the locations though

the main difference I see between the real life LA and GTA5's LS is that they cut out most of the residential areas. It would be annoying to have to go around large neigborhoods just to get around the map.

This one time, when I got a really nice supercar on Midnight Club LA I went down to the parking garage to pinkslip my car for one of the ai's. I went up against a Mazda RX7 I think or something like that, and I somehow lost. From then on, I regained my money hoping to pinkslip the supercar I had just bought for that Mazda again, but when I accepted the challenge I forgot one slight thing. if the ai won a car off you they would use that car for pinkslipping. So I expectedly lost that car too, giving the ai two real nice supercars when I was only trying to get an RX7.
GTA 5's colors are too saturated and have also too much contrast . I first noticed while driving in LA ( the crew wild run ) which looks way more realistic. Now with the actual images of real LA, gta 5 looks so cartoonish.
This is crazy! Also, you gotta remember even though San Andreas came out in 04, it was actually based in the early 90s. Could be part of an explanation why so much was left out. Also Rockstar's capabilities at the time.
Pacific Coast doesn't look similar in GTA:SA because you didn't show the right location. The GTA:SA location is in east of Los Santos. Where this highway is going straight up from south to north (next to the stadium).

I live in Los Angeles , it's so much fun to see similar locations in the game such as the Santa Monica pier or rodeo drive or even DTLA. DTLA is nothing like what you see in the game. It's 100% different from GTA V
