They got the buildings and tourist attractions almost right, but because they didn't want to make the map 1 to 1 in scale so it could be run on the PS3 and PS4 without crashing/massive fps drop (while also cutting travel times and increasing the chaos). So the solution was to pick out all the iconic sections of Hollywood, NYC, San Andreas and bring it all closer together, then just fill in the blanks with random buildings and land features. Voila, you have a perfectly sized example of American culture to blow shit up in.
@@WallaceBernsteinCIA No bro, LA and LA County have too much residental areas to be replicated 1:1, no missions would be enough to fill this much map.
Those suburbs are the easiest part to make. Just model 1 or 2 houses and use your copy and paste tool to place endless rows of them in the game. Looks just as generic as they do in real life.
I love GTA V because it’s based off of a real place and the locations look identical. I have been to Los Angeles many times since I live 1 hour away and every time I go there, I imagine about GTA V and how similar everything looks like the game.
Majority of GTA games are based off real cities, yeah the older games weren't much similar to the real counterpart. But the HD era games are pretty much identical.
@@rohan_3128Vice City and San Andreas were pretty similar to their real life counterparts. GTA 3 tried something different though, as Liberty City (based on New York City) there was a mixture of NYC, Philadelphia and Chicago, making the city pure fiction just like Anywhere City from GTA 2 (although it's not exactly a parody of a real American city). This is the technical reason for the same city looking so different in GTA 4, as 4 was basically NYC with another name.
@@extremeboss5282 yeah, it started from Vice city which wasn't that accurate but still captured Miami strip, and San Andreas is just another level with 3 big cities in one game

Man after going to Hollywood a few times and now owning a vehicle, gta V really captured the California essence and LA vibes. People complain about the crazy npc driving but that’s honestly the reality. Lol, anyways I wish vinewood got some kinda visual map update. The area honestly feels just too lonely, isolated and not filled with loud horns, randomness of strangers, the Hollywood strip life…. I get it’s a game and has its engine limits but cmon. Honestly because of GTA V I started getting interested into Los Angeles. Then I started reading Michael Conelly and Raymond Chandler. Nobody should say that gaming is bad for your education.
Great comparison video! I really enjoyed your take on the GTA 5 Real vs Game concept. It's impressive how you recreated those moments with such detail and accuracy. GTA V somehow took one of the largest urban sprawls in the world and condensed it to the size of a very small US city while still keeping the specific feel of many areas. GTAs version LA of course on the whole doesn’t capture the intensity of the real life, but it’s a fantastic pastiche of dozens of its neighborhoods, and it is faithful to them geographically. With some exceptions - Santa Monica beach/ pier in GTA V feels practically 1-1. I imagine it’s smaller but all of the details are there.
@@Perich29 I hope it will be vice, los santos, san fransico (idk the name of the city in gta San Andreas), and liberty city all together in one map. But too bad they will stick with vice city
5:45 The USA are like a Janus-head. Tinseltown-glamour on the south of the mountain and deserted desperation on the north of the mountains. Its interesting how GTA V was recreating these sharp differences so realisticaly.
This will be a go to video in 4 years. The United States of America is hosting the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angelious. It will be interesting to see how my knowledge of the city from this game, and the locations it’s based on, will appear in important detail for when the venues are shown.
the unfortunate thing about video games is that everything looks like it's made of cheap plastic, from the buildings to the human skin. The only way some games try to replicate some materials is by making them shine use RTX lighting and reflections, but still most materials look weird in even top tier games

No game map will ever be 1:1, LA County has too much uninteresting suburbia to be made 1:1.
Some of these look almost way to identical to the irl. Rockstar game designers did their research 24/7 focused on every single pixels
