I'm doing currently full scripted commercials, corporate videos or documentary weddings and been shooting with either cine 4 or slog, because I like the flexibility but next week will be doing crazy same day delivery video content creation for social media and I'm planning on using the Sony FS5 Pro profile I think is a nicer one, especially on the A6500, have you tried already?

While I don't like using eoshd procolor preferably because of the red and underexposed skin tones, I agree very much with this video about using in camera profiles over log! I made a replica Devinsupertramp profile and I love the results I get. Its even better now, I just have to upload footage when I get the chance.

I tried it out. Seems legit. I turned B=+4 to +3 and Saturation=+22 to +20. Still playing with it though lol

I usually shoots slog2, then cine 4 when I need a little less dynamic range, and then like profile 2 for lower light situations. I just have a lut I made for myself to get slog close to where I want it in any situation and then tweaking individual clips from there goes really fast.

I also should've added it's best to buy from their authorized retailers instead like BH. Returns would've been easier for sure
I do something similar. I use creative mode 'neutral' with contrast -2, add DRO manually and I can expose for the highlights because shadows won't explode as early. If I want to do more, I use Cine2 with is easy to work with even with limited software such as iMovie. Slog requires too much additional time.
If you use your custom buttons/dial to utilize the memory function, you can have it so that when you go back to photos that there is no longer a picture profile.

For photos I shoot Raw and no jpg. I can turn my dial to number 1 and go to my movie settings with cine 2 as my picture profile. Then switch back to manual mode and I don’t have to worry about the picture profile being retained.

Jason Vong oh right on. I’m new to Sony so I don’t yet understand the camera fully 😆 . How does that impact you going back to photo mode? Can you switch from your custom dial 1 setting with slo-mo video settings to let’s say manual mode? Right now for photos I only shoot in manual mode M and then my movie settings are reserved for the custom dials.
guys can you explain little bit more, cause I was shocked - like wtf I have to shoot s-log photos?! i'm getting my sony a6500 next week. I would like to set C1 for 24fps 4K and C2 for slow motion, there is also C3 right? what about all the other buttons like aperture priority, manual? are you talking about this manual?
Jakub S. On these cameras there are custom buttons and then there’s custom settings. I believe you are referring to C1-C3 buttons. Let’s say you are in manual exposure mode for photos. Here you would be able to assign anything such as white balance to C1 and let’s say ISO or whatever you want to the other two buttons C2 and C3. If you are shooting Raw then picture profiles won’t impact you. If you are shooting in jpg then they will.
The mode dial can be rotated to Custom settings 1 and 2. You can setup custom settings and save all of those settings to either mode 1 or 2 on the mode dial. Everyone will be different but for me I have my mode 1 setup to shoot 4K video at 24fps and my shutter speed is 1/50 with a picture profile of cine2. This makes it easy for me to go from manual mode M and rotate the dial to mode 1 on the fly. I have the ability to go from taking pics to video quickly. I could setup mode 2 to be slow motion video for example and hav the correct shutter speed setup etc ready to go at the flip of the mode dial. Now for each custom setting mode you can in addition program the settings of the custom buttons to be whatever you would like.
Hopefully I explained that ok. Anyway, if you are shooting in jpg the. Yes you’ll need to be mindful of the picture profiles. If you are shooting Raw then no need to worry about the picture profile. It may still show you a preview on the back of the screen that has the picture profile applied in Raw but it won’t affect the actual written file if it does.
There’s technically 4 custom buttons and basically every button on the camera can be programmed for something. And there are two memory modes on the dial that can go directly to presets. You literally have endless layout. I have a photo custom layout and when I switch to video the same buttons do entirely different things.

I'm looking to use my sony a6400 for my livestream setup. Would you recommend to use PP1 Movie? Any tweaks to the profile?
Yeah, it makes a lot of sense. Then again, every job has different requirements. The way I do it, at the moment, is:
- S-Log2 or 3 for commercial jobs that you already know will feature a distinct look (like one of those washed-out LUTs that are so popular right now and which we ALL love, right? ;-) )
- Cine4 + custom settings for wedding videos
- for RUclips, I can't talk about it, yet :-D
For pictures, as I'm primarily a Black&White photographer, I shoot RAW with a black and white custom picture profile that resembles the Kodak Tri-x curve. Basically, I almost never see a RAW picture in color, from the moment I take it, to the moment I print it. Which is pretty cool. To me, at least ;-)

I dont see him mentioning much about a7iii? it seems the current pro color is not for the newer cameras.
I think it’s really important you mention what lenses you use in the footage. Saying only “Sony a7iii” makes us ASSUME you’re using kit lenses… which clearly it’s not the case. You are probably using expensive great quality lenses. Which makes the difference!
So I personally I would appreciate the lenses named in the title!

I know this video is not the latest...but! There is a work around for the "Hybrid shooter with Picture Profiles forms AND Creative Styles"...If you set your camera to silent shooting your Picture Profile will be automatically deactivate and it will switch to Creative Styles. So! if you have the camera, A7R III in my case, in movie mode with Log3 or Cine on Picture Profile and Silent Shooting activated then when you switch to Manual mode to take pictures it will go back to Creative Styles. I discovered this on a project i had a while ago and find it very useful just cause shooting silent on some events is very needed. Hope this helps!

Absolutely get your point, but you honestly need to learn how to edit/grade faster. SLOG or Cine4 is not as complicated as you might think, just takes some time and practice ;)
I personally love Cine4, Slog2 is a love hate relationship right there 😭😭😭
Thoughts on HLG3?
I think this video makes a good point. If the camera outputs 8 bit instead of raw, it is just as important to get the color mapping correct in the camera for video as it would be for jpeg. So that would probably mean PP1, perhaps with sharpness turned down.
If you use DaVinci just slap on the built in slog lut on and it's basically fully graded. Also cine 4 just needs a slight saturation and contrast boost across all clips, some don't even need grading

@4:52 correct me if Im wrong, but when you change setting for a picture profile in the Camera 1 menu, page 3/14 you can assign these settings to one of your numbers on the Dial. Would not making a daily shooting setting applied to (1) and slow motion setting set to (2) and vlogging for (3) if you have it enable you to use your favourite combinations without having to change anything? if its good light, use the Cine on 1...etc?
Could you please talk more about how you setup that 120d light with the stand your using, and how do you hang the light controller so its dangling down from the light stand?
Sry but WRONG, you not need alot of time grading s-log. Just use color checker and BAM you are done. With 30sec in resolve and it is done. Colors are accurate and not need to worry the "sony colors"....

very helpful! The best part was the last bit that you can generate a LUT and then do your edit in Premier or I'm assuming in FCPX, etc.
8 bit 4:2:0 falls apart with slog. It's just a joke
VN apps allow you to put a LUT on ur footage
PP2 is clearly better for low-light footage. Why would you chose PP1...?
I still use Cine4 for certain situations but Slog2 or 3 is definitely not usable in XAVC S, 8bit 420, included in A7 series because of lacking color data.

Question. I have the EosHd guide too. Mr. Reid did set up the guide for us to change pp1 and pp2, and as a bonus you can change even pp3 with different settings etc. But the main two to change are pp1 and pp2. My question is: if you say you use pp1 as your default for low light situations etc, what picture profile did you ended up changing in your camera when you set it up using the EOS Hd guide , if what he tells us to change are exactly those two, pp1 and pp2. So basically those two picture profile (pp1 and pp2) no longer be straight out of the camera once you use the EOSHd guide. I'm a little confused.

Is it possible to shot slog3 jpeg photos?
Not sure if someone already said this, but they now sell dummy batteries on amazon. Though, Sony has a 400$ charger with dc power and usb out with the NP-FW50 as the dummy and an attachment, more like a battery case, or a case for the NP-FW50 battery, goes on the smaller battery. If that makes sense. You should look it up. it's quite ridiculous!
is log uncompressed file format or just a picture profile? how does it compare to codecs like H.264?

One mobile application which I know of is 3DLUT mobile which allows to add lut on the phone and edit images and video files . I personally havent used it and cant comment on it .
Hi Jason, what is the difference between PP Off and PP1 Movie, the colours look the same, but strangely the PP Off held the highlights more than PP1 Movie.
They are the same as long as you have movie gamma and movie color on pp1

Great video... question... on my A7Riii I loaded EOSHD 4.0 in my picture profile 1 & 2. Is there anywhere I could go to get the Sony PP1&2 default settings so I could load them in pp 9 and 10 instead of resetting all my camera settings?
Hmm you could copy and paste the EOSHD profiles to 3 & 4 first. Then reset 1 & 2. Copy 1 & 2 to 9 & 10. Copy 3 & 4 back to 1&2. I know, super convoluted but I would do the same thing haha

Another great video. Another idea for another video would be how every profile looks out of the camera and how they would look with either the same lut over it or diffrent LUTs. To show us the difference between different profiles on the sony alpha cameras
I didnt watch the whole video, maybe you mention this but for all the A7III people out there you should really check out the new HLG3 picture profile. Christian Mate Grab & Zack Kravits have made videos about it. Looks promising to say the least.

I use Onetake (free) or VSCO (membership) to add filter to videos on my iPhone. :)
I imagine you have to lessen slightly the following adjustments since the newer color science is different. I figure since there is less green now maybe these should be lowered slightly. Color Depth = R,G,B,C,M all + 4, but Y -5
And maybe slightly lower the custom white balance settings by a point also.

I am confused between 80mm 1.8 and A7III.
I have a6000 and i shoot videos mostly and sometimes portrait.
Should i buy 80mm Sony lens first or should i buy A7III first and then 80.
I have limited budget....

SONY αdicto 127 mm would be a difficult focal length... i think
Technoboy Aman I also think so, but buying a full frame camera requires full frame lenses (or APS-C lenses used on crop mode... 10.7 megapixels photos and 4k).

MikeFujiePhoto the body sizes between an R3 and a 7ii are not the same. SmallRig has something for both. The 7iii is the same as the R3.

to me, highlights are more controlled in the movie profile as opposed to the stills profile

How does it work? Since that was for the older A7 series color science? Now they have improved it, how did you adjust the numbers? I have the same thing for my a6500 but cannot figure out how to adjust it for the A7III? id you just lessen the M and Y numbers slightly? Color Depth = R,G,B,C,M all + 4, but Y -5

Which version of the EOSHD?
I purchased the V3 for my a6500, but I am guessing it is just slightly different as Sony changed their science to less green. But either way there is no EOSHD v4 Log profile for video, they must be referring to v3 for video and v4 for pictures.
I use PP4. It needs some color correction but it’s not as much a pain as S Log.
