I'm 79 and Gene Pitney represents the best music of my generation. I have NEVER tired of his great performances.
Hi I couldn;t agree on the beauty of the song and so true I love the 60s and being a baby boomer who could ask for more Portland, or
❤
Same here C Gene has a fantastic voice and his music is great to listen to you never get tired of hearing his songs they have feeling and emotions in the words and how he presents them across even to listen to him as an older person he still sings with that passion and love ❤️
can't agree more!!
This is how we fell in Love in our younger days we fell in love with our girlfriend back then real love from the Heart ❤️
I was so in love with my husband in 1960 And when they played this song I fell in love with him over again, we were married 60 years and he left me to go live with our precious Savior and wait on me to join him again ❤
Praise Jesus
Bless you sister in Christ
I love princess in rags, my favourite. XxX
Precious.
I'm a hopeless Romanic 72 yrs old and this is how we fell in love back then real Music
Great comment! This recording still makes me tingle, the old ways were the best!!!
I'm 77 and this still pierces my heart.
I love your comment Joseph, you made smile & chuckle. 72 is my age also & I agree the 50's, 60's & 70's REAL MUSIC that stirred your emotions was "top shelf"! Take care & enjoy each day with Gods Blessings Joseph.
My mum loved gene pitney bless her she's no longer here anymore. She's up in heaven somewhere.
I am 77 years old and i still love this song and i have an album of his
me too!
I'm 77 now, but this tune takes me straight back to my favourite time, the early 60's
Me too..What emotions roll back when I hear this amazing voice singing such beautiful lyrics.
My favorite time also at 78 wish I could go back ❤
I would play this song over and over on my record player. There must have been a breakup somewhere in my life at that time because even now at 72 this song still pulls at my heart strings and takes me back to my tender teens. I loved all of GP's music but this one in particular is so special.
Makes perfect sense to me@@jfryan2717
I’m 65 years old now and I grew up on this music. ❤😊
I’m only 40, but I’ve loved this since I was a kid. What a great singer.
Gene Pitney was a great singer and one of the most under-rated singers of all-time!
Absolutely agree!
there will never be anyone like him or the other 60's artists, NEVER EVER
This guy was a true SOUL singer. He poured his heart and soul into a song.
Blue-eyed soul of the first quality.
This is back when music had heart and soul
And it had a melody and words that you could understand.
You got that right! :)
You can say that again
absolutely
Where can I get one of those photos?
My opinion, Gene Pitney was one of the great singers; this song in particular, pulled at your heart strings, made you feel that the love you thought you had lost could maybe be retrieved, with just one kiss. . .Gene was great.
I knew Gene when I worked for a Dentist in Rockville, Conn. Many years ago. He was a patient, and I was so nervous each time he came in. Always loved his music. Still do. I have a 45 rpm he signed for me in 1961. "To the Southern Belle I love with Every Breath I take".
Most definitely. I get in tears every time I listen to it.
@@judymurray9941 Haha

The best version ever.
Dear Gene, 33 years ago I introduced you to my husband as we drove from GA to ME so I could meet his family on our 2nd wedding anniversary. I had your songs on a tape I copied from your album. He fell in love with your music. He loves us both still! Thanks for your soulful tones and the belt in the gut when you hit those high notes. I still get chills every time.
I'm. Seventy. Five. This. Song. Still. Touches my heart. 😅😅😅😅😮
This song is just sizzled into my brain. As a child I loved the sorrowful voice and the lovely music to accompany. Just a beautiful song...
I'm 34 and my father/dad is 84 and he showed me real love songs like this. Thank God for those who watch over us.
These lyrics are so true. Only love can break a heart and only love can mend it again. May all who have had their heart broken find love again.
Yeah ,still looking
Gene Pitney had a priceless talent of conveying the emotion of love's pains, better than probably anyone.
This song is timelessly beautiful. I first heard it while I was in grade school. It has never gotten old
I couldn't have said it better Tom. I was in grade school when this cam out too and I fell in love with his music. One of the most emotional singers I ever heard and I'm 64 now. His music, his voice is TIMELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes he could
we had such fabulous artists back in the day. And we appreciated them. They could make us smile or cry and we loved them June 2022
There is no music anymore just that rap crap and now it has worked it's way into country and ruined it also.

Gene Pitney was one of our treasures in CT. We're so proud of his talents and his heritage here in Vernon and Rockville. I remember dancing to Only Love Can Break a Heart and falling in love all over again. Still recall those moments in my 70s when I play this song. ❤️

I'm in my 70's also. He's one of my favorites, we loved him here in Texas too. I hope you enjoy this music as I do on weekends. Ed in SA,Tx. stay safe.
I was always a fan and I live in Mass. I drive for a limousine service and one day I had to go to Edington, CT which is on the west side of Rockville. I was on my way to the pick up and I saw Gene Pitney Park. I had no idea he was from CT! It was very cool.

He grew up on Hammond St. Rockville, he is a legend! Proud to say I live in Rockville!

it has been 10 years since this great singer left us RIP GENE and thank you for a wonderful voice
I loved him growing up. I just wish I had appreciated him more and listened in our later years before he died. I really loved his voice
16 now - at least Gene didn't have to experience the crapfest that was the last 16 years!

THE DEEPER THE PAIN.
How true the hurt so deep it never heals 😭😭
So true
The genius of Bacharach and David. Dionne Warwick finally did a lovely version of this bittersweet song.
Love his voice. Rest in heaven and sing with the angels forever.
I remember hearing this song playing on the radio at my grandmother's house. It brings back a lot of good memories. Only love can break a heart, only love can mend it again. I like the lyrics and music, it still is a great song!!
a great artist with a great voice. You don't hear songs like this today.
no but i wish we did we could start all over and keep our rules & still have god in our schools & every place they took him out.. may be still have our good music with us also to keep our statues up to remember our history that our service men died for & to change our mistakes into good choices.
but still know what we know now

Nope. Seperation of church and state is a defining principle of the United States.
What a great song. Loved it and brings back bittersweet memories from high school as I drove home with this playing on the radio one night back then. Was visiting a friend recovering from a minor procedure in the hospital. I decided not to pursue her anymore through my tears. Always hoped the best for her though. Gene Pitney was so talented and had a great and unique voice. RIP.
I agree with chuckchapman6654. Gene Pitney was the BEST of his generation. We are so lucky still to have his music.
Well it is clear Gene Pitney has aged well. I am glad of that.
Mmmmm,!!! Memories of the sixties when we were content, my my what went wrong with little ole England, Pitney, fabulous
I'm 68 now and I grew up with this man's music played often in our household. He had such a beautiful voice and as a young lad I fell in love with his music. I have an eclectic taste , even for some of today's music, but if I'm feeling a little down in life I always go back to listen to music by artists like Gene Pitney who could belt out tunes with the best of them.
I'm so glad Gene was alive when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Over-deserved! His voice came through me like a whispering chime....and remained. I'm sending this video to the first boy I ever went out with, the boy next door....right now. He's ill...and this tune says it all best of that era of our lives. Thank you, Gene Pitney.
He is any better now?
@Mookie Spindlehurst -- "he never recorded a rock and roll song in his entire life"? Hey, friend, try this one on for size (his first single), whaddaya say? --

I'm 68. I did not even know the title was like the Young song but so different my mom made me listen to it I was 13. Loved it. Can relate to it but I never achieved the second part. 50 years have passed and I still miss her
Fantastic Singer. Rest in Peace my friend.
Gene Pitney's range never ceases to amaze me. Love his music
Heres a song I remember, still listen to Gene Pitney I will always be a fan
Gene was a Master you could feel his words.
His voice remained the same throughout the years. It never failed him.. One of my favorite voices of youth.
Gene is one of the most underrated and misunderstood singers in pop music history. As artist himself, but also as composer and arranger Gene stood out.
Good Lord, how many children were conceived with this song, yeah, I'm about that age..lol Gene, your the best Brother, RIP , Walt
Gene Pitney has always been one of my favorite singers. What a beautiful voice and he was so handsome too!
For always Gene, RIP.

What a Beautiful song. No one makes music like this anymore. And that's a shame!
Pitney was touring the UK in the spring of 2006 when his manager found him dead in his hotel room in Cardiff, Wales, on April 5. An autopsy found the cause of death to be a heart attack and that he had severely occluded coronary arteries.[15] His final show at Cardiff's St David's Hall had earned him a standing ovation; he ended with "Town Without Pity".[16] He was buried at Somers Center Cemetery in Somers, Connecticut.[17]

Beautiful song and oldie.
This song came out right after my love and I broke up. I never will forget and I never got over him for the rest of my life. I went on to marry and I loved him but never like that love.
Great song by a great performer he is missed RIP
I never get tired of hearing his voice. Just love this song.
What a talent he had!?
Heavenly voice...WOW.
Wish these songs were still playing today instead of all the trash out there.God bless Mr.Pitney soul.
Gene 🧬 is why I am a musician still to this day! And I have no where near the talent that he had! But I keep trying
My late wife and I listened to this when we were courting, so many memories.
My favorite singer ever. I had the biggest crush on him. I’m sure I wasn’t the only girl who did.
Wow one of the greatest songs ever, not like the garbage of today.
Whistling, Strings, Choir.Superb arrangement and Gene.Does it get any better than this?
He also sang many of the songs on THE BANANA SPLITS show along with Barry White and Al Kooper!
This recording was crafted perfectly, excellent use of multi-track stereo, and mood.

Place of death: Hilton Cardiff, Cardiff, United Kingdom

Oggi, 22 1 2023.Sono contentissima, perché. Finalmente dopo tempo, in Tv hanno mandato in onda alcuni filmati di Gene Pitney. Felice perché, e sempre ricordato dalla mia generazione. Grazie Gene!!! 👍👍👍👍
Brings back a time of love and innocence, a time when family, home and happiness were the goals in life.
Sooo nostalgic I'm remembering all the singers of that time, it was truly the best of times!
Me too. We had the best music. Gene sings with so much emotion and a great voice. Love this true to life song.
A very kind and amusing man off stage and enchanting on. One that has given me many happy memories 54 years on. Always at the Westbury Hotel (Conduit St. London) and always the warmest of welcomes when I tapped on the suite door.
A beautiful Bacharach tune.
The song writers and musical arrangers were geniuses in the 60’s. The singers were superior to anything before or after. We will never see talent and perfect performance like this again.
Saw him on the Gold Coast around 94. He was an absolute gentleman and master at his craft. He has Left us with some beautiful songs and memories.
I did too. Wasn't he great?
Gene Pitney's gift to us are wonderful memories of of our youth, listening or dancing to his amazing music. Gene will live on in our hearts, and his timeless recordings will be enjoyed by future generations.
Only Love Can Break Your Heart" is a song written by Canadian-American singer-songwriter, musician, and activist Neil Young. It has been covered by many bands.🎷🎸🥁🎶
Neil did "Only love can break your heart". Hal David and Burt Bacharach did " Only love can break a heart". I believe Gene's song sounds like a David Bacharach song to me.
Totally different song from this
Dedicated to my Father- R.I.P.
A masterpiece of music and lyrics!
I have never heard the "voice" use any of his songs and they really should!!!
Gene Pitney has a voice that is meant to melt hearts!

To those of you who don't know it, Gene Pitney was known as "The Rockville Rocket" in CT, after the town from which he came. I was thirteen when this song came out and none of my friends were really into music. Luckily, my father was and I could discuss music with him. This was his favorite song by Pitney so naturally it was mine. Pitney did the whistling in the song himself. I also just read that this song and a few other hits he had were written by Bachrach and David. That was before they met Dionne Warwick, of course. Pitney also was a good song writer and when this song charted, it never made it to number 1 because a song he wrote, "He's a Rebel" by the Crystals was in that spot. His own song had to settle for number 2. My husband thinks it's hilarious that I enjoy finding out all these obscure facts about singers but I love the internet because I can do it!
This song has the best ending of Any song
Back in the "Old days" my late wife and I listened to Gene in her unfinished basement and we were married a few years later. We loved him and now I have two cats to keep me company--thanks for this and the memories!
Oh, this song and Gene are great---this song will be remembered for a long, long time!
