This was before my time but I grew up with these songs played around the home. I’m now realizing what a songwriter and musician he really was, this one was always a favorite
In Gedenken an meine Schwägerin, die mit 73 Jahren verstorben ist. Sie hat mir Gene Pitney so was von näher gebracht, als ich noch Kind war. Ich finde die Songs heute noch absolut super. RALF mit 64 Jahren.
Lyrics: It hurts to be in love, when the only one you love Turns out to be someone who’s not in love with you It hurts to love her so, when deep down inside you know She will never want you, no matter what you do And so you cry a little bit (hurts to be in love) Oh you die a little bit (hurts to be in love) Day and night, night and day It hurts to be in love this way How long can I exist? Wanting lips I’ve never kissed She gives all her kisses, to somebody else She thinks I’m just a friend Though it hurts, I must pretend The only way to keep her, is to keep it to myself And so I cry a little bit (hurts to be in love) Oh I die a little bit (hurts to be in love) Day and night, night and day It hurts to be in love this way And so I cry a little bit (hurts to be in love) Oh I die a little bit (hurts to be in love) Day and night, night and day It hurts to be in love this way It hurts to be in love, day and night, night and day It hurts to be in love, day and night, night and day It hurts to be in love, day and night, night and day……
i have the rare mix of Neil Sedaka's version which was recorded and there was a dispute on the song that they took Neils voice out of the recording mix and steps in Gene Pitney's version and they used the background music from Neils recording and i also have the rare version of both of them singing the song together. Neil would've had the hit if the co didn't get greedy and toss out Neil sedak's version but he had the last laugh as the song was such a big hit he had plenty of money from all the royalties. Neil had the last laugh.
I know this song was released in the early 60's. ( I was prob 2-3 yrs Old.) But, it describes how I felt for this 1 lady back in 1986. OK MIND-BLOWN !!!!! Songwriter, take a bow
Fantastic song and beautiful words Gene sung a perfect tune. Later Dan Hartman would cover this song too. But Gene Pitneys version is classic and the original so nostalgic and with a crystal clear vocalists sound. Authentic Rock N' Roll of yesterday but timeless and historic. He was one of the all time great singers from the 1960's so smooth and passionate professionalism RIP in Heaven. Your music will live on into eternity.
I am so thankful that I grew up in the 50's and 60's. We had the best of everything; music, movies, cars and Drive In's. Yes Sir, I'd go back in a second if I could. I was in love with a special someone in High School when I was 17 who didn't know I existed. I'm now 78 and I still remember her.
@@charlesaguilar1708 yes he did. and recorded it also Neils Version is the original and gene Pitney was the second person to record it. i have both versions and the two together singing it. scroll up till you see my name and i tell you the whole story.
Originally a demo by Neil Sedaka for Screen Gems/Columbia music, but rejected as a single release by RCA Victor. Gene dubbed his voice over Neil's, and this is the result. Also, Gino Vannelli did NOT write this song; it was written by Neil Sedaka & Howard Greenfield. Gino Vannelli was still an unknown pre-teen in Canada at the time, and wouldn't issue his first record until 1973.
@@perrimeno Sorry, sometimes a record collector like me has to realize that he is human and errs. By looking at the record label I have, Neil didn't have anything to do with the lyrics or the melody, but his longtime partner Howie Greenfield was involved, so maybe that's why I was confused. Screen Gems publishing did employee all three songwriters. But I do know that Gino Vannelli, a Canadian pop singer from the 1970's & 1980's didn't compose it, unless he has a song that has a similar title to the 1964 song.
I absolutely LOVE Gene Pitney's song's, and that voice! Beautiful! ❤🌹

Loved Gene Pitney. Music that touched our young souls.
Written by Neil Sedaka, Gene Pitney's version of IT HURTS TO BE IN LOVE made it one of the monster hits of the 1960s.

Wow good 👍one
I think Nick Lowe used these charts for " Cruel to be kind."
Can anyone find the Dan Hartman cover?

Fantastic Voice. Went To Four Concerts In Ireland.
He was great. But i hated the relentless double tracking when his voice was good on its own. Just production values of its time
It sounds like Eminem’s voice to me personally -
