    Parabol/Parabola is my favorite and if you decide to react to them, you should definitely listen to them together. Parabol is a much needed lead into a Parabola. You don't want to just jump straight to the start of Parabola.
    Also, if you end up doing Rosetta Stoned.....I'd similarly suggest playing Lost Keys right before it too. It's not a "song" but also a shorter snippet which gives much needed context.

It's never Slash vs. Axel Rose, etc. It's each band member doing their best part for the whole of the song. And the whole is better than any of the parts, and never less than their sum.

    Sometimes they play in unison, but the really unique thing about Tool is that very often Adam is playing rhythm while Justin plays lead parts. Justin very often plays much higher notes than you typically hear from a bassist, and he’s often playing very melodical stuff.

    This is a common theme for Maynards lyrics. He talks about "storms" in life and that you are better off to embrace and prepare for them than if you pretend they won't happen and then are unprepared for them. You know their nature. Don't be fooled into thinking life is all rosy and easy. Life is hard. It's the journey and the constant struggle that make life beautiful. Also this song was the same for me, my first listen through of this album, I didn't immediately get hooked on this. I loved Decending, Pneuma, and Culling Voices but believe me, by my 3rd or 4th play through, I can't get enough of this song

    • @ethosfm1262

      The storm is us and we are the storm.

    • @woebringer7884
      @woebringer7884 4 месяца назад

      Those “storms” are also referring to individual views of reality. Prying open your third eye so that you can see it “accurately”…Think for yourself, question authority…with multiple other Parables throughout every album, every track.
      Also notice that you NEVER hear Maynard or anyone else in the band taking about shit that doesn’t matter. Like politics. Because when you know, you know.

    To me this track is very reminiscent of the tone and feel of Undertow. Still in rotation on my playlists even after all these years. Undertow is just so very raw and powerful. Flood might be the sleeper track on that album but just the pure energy and aggression coming from that album is amazing. Definitely several tracks you should check out from Undertow.

    • @pamb440
      @pamb440 Год назад +3

      I totally agree! I get that same vibe when I listen to this song. Undertow was the first album that threw me into the Tool Army. Still in my rotation as well and always will be. I really liked Opiate when I first heard it back in the day, but Undertow is what solidified my love for this band. Lateralus is neck and neck with Undertow for me but Undertow stretches out just a little bit further. Maybe because I’ve been listening since 93 when it came out and the nostalgia of it all or that it’s when I really started to respect and admire this band so much….Idk, just adore that album.

    Not only are these guys geniuses in making their tracks but there is so much more to just a track, especially this one, 7empest. One, everyone that I has heard this track says the same thing, I don’t think I have ever heard Tool sound like this. Two, such a tribute to their influences but it still sounds like Tool. Three, track placement in this album, tracks such as Invincible, Descending, & Culling Voices, many people say Tool is softer and getting older, etc., then boom, we’re in our 60’s & listen to this fucking track. Not only are we still relevant but we can still bring it! Lastly, and I hope that I am 100% wrong. Near the end of 7empest, just like the end of a concert, they let each instrument stand out on their own for a few bars, as a tribute to each member. I hope this isn’t their last track / album. I listen to Tool everyday and I mean everyday. Every track has so many little things that come out after many, many listens. 🤘🏻🌀

    Man, this is one of those tour de force songs by Adam. My friends and I had a saying when the album came out: "What is your favorite song on Fear Inoculum and why is it 7empest." I am sure a lot of us old school TOOL fans would love to see you give some 90's albums some love and react to "Bottom".

    I love this song and album. Been listening to Tool since the early 90's, and I enjoy it all. This album was a huge excitement and relief when it dropped. I wonder if I should have counted how many times I have listened so far?

    @POLO REACTS To answer your question about Adan and Justin playing in Sync, it is actually the opposite! The opposite of Syncopation is called a Polyrhythm! Danney also joins the party, if you listen closely. And to top it all off, instead of composing the song in a 4-based time signature, these dudes play all this in a 3-based time signature. Hence the name, Holy Trinity, Triad, etc. Pure. Genius.

    Adam has done more with drop D tuning than any other guitarist has ever thought about doing. The timing of his hammer on and pull off heavy riffs are not easy to play. They go against most players natural rhythmic sense of time, specifically where upbeats and downbeats land

    I remember those days. Back when they thought you could fix a TV or someone with a stutter by slapping it a couple times. They were simpler times and more than a few people became simpler because of it I'm sure. It's clearly apparent you aren't stupid, so my school of thought is either they're not saying much of anything, Or something was said in such a way as to require more consideration than I care to currently expend to decipher or extrapolate the meaning intended. Sometimes I enjoy puzzles, but not first thing in the morning, and not having the puzzle be how to unlock my pants to take a leak.

      I'm 40 and went to my first Tool show in February last year in New Orleans. Definitely a great show and I had decent seats (expensive though). My only gripe was all the folks in front of me standing up the ENTIRE show. I can see standing up sometimes or at certain points...but all two and a half hours, no. This is why I bought seats, I wanted to take a journey and be comfortable. Good thing I didn't decide to "take a trip". All in all, great frickin' show, and I would go again.

    Not sure how many people recognize how much Justin is holding most of Tools songs together. Also playing many of those higher notes that many think are Adam on guitar. His skill at bass rifts while maintaining that full sound (which he holds consistently live as well) is a rare deep talent. Been playing bass guitar for 37yrs and can hold my own but I know of no one who matches the level he operates on.

    To answer your question about Adam and Justin playing together to make the music more powerful, the answers are yes and no. They do that sometimes and other times they don't. When they fo it obvious. Also, there are definitely times where you think you are hearing guitar but it's bass. It is usually parts with heavy effects that are more atmospheric sounding.

    This song actually feels like a storm passing over. It lashes you; there's this calm center, then it lashes you again, and finally ebbs off. One way to read the lyrics is that this song is about Trump or at least the politics he stirred up. I personally don't think Tool songs ever have an intended meaning, but I can see the justification for such an interpretation. MJK had made political/social statements before, like Vicarious.

    • @user-vs9cz9pm1n
      @user-vs9cz9pm1n 21 день назад

      YES! That's exactly my thoughts. Although I'm not american, so I didn't connect it to Trump. But the interesting part for me anyway is that Maynard doesn't BLAME noone.
      He says "The Tempest must be just that".
      If cpnnection to Trump is legit, it would mean he sees Trump as a Tempest, storm, and as storms happen from time to time, sometimes resulting a massive death toll (whom to blame here? The Tempest must be just that!) so the Trump just happened now. Btw, this time I hope Trump wins, because if he stops sending weapons to Ukraine and Russia wins (yeah, I'm from Russia), the bloodshed will be stopped at least. I can GUARANTEE this is the last war Putin has ever went to. But it needs to be stopped. And there's no much options to stop Putin from waging it other than let him win this time.
