I met Dinah Shore in 1955 when I was in the Soap Box Derby in Akron, OH, and she sang of all the participants one day.. I also met George Montgomery, but I later thought Ms. Shore had been married 4 or 5 times by then. She planted a really big kiss on my cheek which I proudly wore and did not wash off for several weeks. One of the really big memories of my life.
@@fromthesidelines Barry, THANKS for bringing this to my attention. I watched the "This is Your Life" segment about Ms. Shore that was attached and enjoyed it tremendously. Thanks again !
I got to meet her on two different occasions in Palm Springs CA back in 1984, and then again in 1988, and she's was an absolutely wonderful and beautiful woman!❤️
My mother LOVED Dinah and watched all of her movies and tv shows. She shared her love of film with me. I've seen more movies before 1950 than after. Why didn't this lady ever grow old? She seems as lovely and gracious as one could ever be. Thanks for sharing. (I noticed how Mr. Montgomery looked a bit like Burt Reynolds?)
I was surprised that Burt and Dinah became an item. She had that girlish figure in spite of her age she was a very mature woman I’m glad she found some happiness before her passing love is a grand thing to happen❤❤❤❤❤
Eddie Cantor WAS honored the following December. But he was NOT surprised, because of his heart condition (Ralph didn't want to shock him into another attack)- so everyone knew about it, and he was given one of the finest testimonials ever produced on the program.
@@fromthesidelinesUPDATE! Not sure if you still check RUclips. But RUclips themselves have uploaded the full unedited Eddie Cantor episode. Type in the best of this is your life and you will find it. It’s very interesting.
I will never forget the episode of Dinah's TV show that featured a surprise guest - Burt Reynolds - bounding into her kitchen. Their mutual attraction was absolutely electric. Dinah, a consummate hostess, introduced him to Hollywood's biggest stars at parties, dinners, etc. I so wanted them to marry but, in one of his autobiographies, Burt wrote that he wanted children, and that became the reason for their breakup.
@@user-db6pt7vr3l Dinah knew what he was. Remember that she was a mature, intelligent woman who was "old school" Hollywood back when running around was common. She already had been through a divorce from George Montgomery (who liked the ladies) when she was younger and had the time and maturity to think about what she wanted in a relationship/marriage and from those decisions, what she was willing to put up with. Everyone should go through this thought process because something is going to happen in a lifetime that could affect life choices. [Let's stay on your point - the subject of adultery and not physical abuse.] The possibility of straying is one reason why we take vows when we get married. Some will make different decisions as life goes on. Some will choose to stay in the marriage because they vowed to. Some will decide that one occurrence of adultery is OK. Others will decide zero is their line in the sand. And still others will OK with ONGOING affairs. Everything that I have read or heard regarding the breakup points to the baby decision as being the breaking point. If Burt had decided that he would not be happy unless Dinah gave birth to THEIR baby, then the couple stood to have unhappiness. Dinah's age pointed to real problems in conceiving and carrying a child. That would leave the options of surrogacy which was NOT a thing at that time or adoption which did not fulfill Burt's stated criteria for a child. Dinah had decided that she didn't want the responsibility of caring for a child at that time of her life. She was a talented athlete (golf, tennis) and a wonderful hostess who loved entertaining friends. She had completed her career except for some guest appearances and she had her own money. Having a child is a responsibility and a blessing and is not something to do unless both people want one and are willing to take on and put up with the work and celebrate the happiness.
Wasn’t she one of JFK’s paramour’s ? So, if so, it was common gossip and she’d probably have been embarrassed because they would’ve had to skate around that.
AD never recovered for refusing to do that show and was instantly cancelled from ever appearing on johnny carson again , but to be the only person in history to refuse that invitation ! is it possible there were too many skeletons ? .
Hello, Ellen! Eddie Cantor was born in 1892 and died in 1964 at the age of 72 per Wikipedia. He was a great vaudevillian entertainer as well as a great humanitarian.

I wanted to grow up and be like Dinah Shore. It was wonderful to get to see her again.

She was there because Chevrolet was the sponsor of the annual Soap Box Derby for years.......and they sponsored her from 1951 through 1961.

You're VERY welcome! 😃
What a gracious and classy lady. No wonder men (and women!) loved her.
Dinah was such a lovely, humble lady.
Dinah Shore just never aged!!
Dinah is a treasure to the earth....I loved her.
Her genuine reaction at having been surprised was heartwarming.
It was in her eyes, they got large and started moving back and forth, best part of the show
Wow. What a sweetie she was...talented and so cute too.

No microphone has EVER had it as good as when the great Dinah Shore sang into it!

Lucky you!

Dinah saw George Montgomery in a movie (in a theatre) and said to herself "I'm going to marry that man" She did. My mom quipped "I like her taste"!
Beautiful voice!!!!
Dinah you are the best❤❤❤
Loved Dinah.💜 Rip Dinah & Ralph.🙏
You can clearly see the ambush factor this show had
Dinah looks mortified
Well, she didn't expect everyone- including Ralph- to make a big deal out of telling her life story on national television.
See the USA in your Chevrolet! 😊🎶

How lovely
My wife's aunts went to high school with her.
She was such a lady.
Delightful!!
Classy gal!
This video is super great !!
George Montgomery asked me out on a date years ago!
Did You accept??
What a positively WONDERFUL way to start the show. This is about as genuine as it gets. Bravo!
What a sweetheart.
💋
she really got more pretty with age😁
A few months before I was born.
A few months after I was born! Lol!
Same day my brother was born😊
In a more modern one Angie Dickinson said no to the show. Dinah handled it with such class and dignity.

I was just going to make a comment. About Angie

Eddie Cantor died this past week. 92, I think. Star of the Borscht Belt and so so much more. R.I.P. Mr. Eddie Cantor and Dinah.

Any chance you have the This is Your Life spotlights on Steve Allen and Marjorie Lawrence?
So very sweet and beautiful
I want a copy of that shirt George is wearing. And I'd like his voice & eyes, too = heehee
He was so handsome!
@@randysills4418 With a masculine but nice personality to match!
Very handsome! Dinah had great taste in men!
the polio bit seemed to be the entire reason for the spectacle. nothing new under the sun. ☀
Wow any more of these this is your life or the Dinah shore shows
Couldn't do this show now. You may bring in a 'beloved teacher' that abused them and no one ever knew.
That would be stressful for Dinah. I don't know what she did, but many people did it looks like.
she resembled my mother

Xavier Cugat would become Charo's husbandd for a time.
I used to watch Charo, I was a teen and she was a grown-up lady. Somehow, we're the same age now!
He also married Abby Lane
Why does is say on the top not for Broadcast?
