- With a small base set up, it is time to loot the mine. It is massive, however, and lots of buildings on the surface too. First thing first, though - we have to find the respirator, or we have no chance of making it.

I've come to realize that if you're an experienced player in the mid to late game, it's pretty hard to die as long as you're cautious and conservative, but when you get overconfident and take risks...that's when you fade into the long dark.
That stim was not wasted. Such a close call! And then that wolf. This game is great about lulling you into false senses of security only to push you to the brink in an instant and get your heart pounding. The Far Territory especially has put me in many instances of walking the line between run continuing and ending right then and there.
Zak, it was actually so interesting to see you have a close call for once! You're always so calm cool and collected it's quite refreshing to see you fear for your (virtual) life. I watch your videos while I'm going to sleep so I don't always see every part of every video, but I'm glad I was around to catch that - and I'm glad you survived. Had me on the edge of my chair, and I think you too haha. Don't beat yourself up about it, it makes for so much more interesting content!

When exploring the mine & buildings, I like to ditch excess clothing. The entire place is indoors, you can drop the bear coat etc and just go half-naked in boots.

LOL, oh man Zak! I lost my 160 day loper run in the exact same spot that you almost did. I totally underestimated the gas. The five or six times I had previously explored the mine, I started on level 3 and was able to acquire several cannisters before going to level 1, which has a very large area of gas. The one time I started exploring the mines on level 1... I didn't make it. Close call! But now you'll be more careful.
Yeah it might be worth going at it in reverse order, it seems :)
16:07 maybe mining gear could be used for a custom challenge : bring back the equipment of fallen miners to their final resting place, the graveyards in milton, thomson crossing and desolation point.

When you used your last stim and were exhausted with cabin fever risk at the bottom of a rope as your only easy way out.. 😱! Zak: should I climb up or head to level two 🤔. Me: Climb up! Climb UP! 😂
Honestly that spot of level one is the most dangerous in the mine, it's the longest stretch without air in the whole place. I usually start at level 2 to avoid it until i have more canisters since I died there on a practice run. Glad you popped that stim when you did, there was no way you make it without that!

I have a run I started just to complete Signal Void and I went right into Buried Echoes, finishing yesterday. I actually really like the ZoC! Granted, I play on Voyager, but I see loot is abundant on higher difficulties as well! Idk, I just found it fun to survive in and navigate!

Zak, you may want to look in the open area right outside the concentrator. It's to the left of where this video ended. That might have some loot and also is considered outside and could be used for sleeping with a hot fire. Thanks for your great videos.

Sorry for being off topic here Zak but speaking of lead, I’ve recently bought a cool lead testing kit. Comes with a special liquid that you can spray or dab on things and a blue light. When you shine the light on a surface you have sprayed, lead will show up as bright green. I’ve tested several old coffee mugs and old dishes and to my dismay there is lead on a lot of it. It’s usually in the paint that they use to make emblems or designs. Needless to say I’ve removed most of those things from my house. Lead isn’t something you want to be exposed to.
I can't wait until you do burried echoes, I am so curious about your input regarding the story. I think it's a very cool discovery to be made and you will like it!

Holy crap, dude. Those things don't last nearly long enough! Needs to be looked at. Or more reliable spawns, a box of them like that box of noisemakers.
They really don't, it's very odd. You find A LOT of them if you follow the Buried Echoes story line before going into the mine. The game encourages you to follow that path and not jump right in like Zak lol.
this chemical dangers are just so different to wolves and the cold. I use a breathing apparatus and filters at work but the last way longer 😅 I´m a bit eased you get scared now and then too (because you are so good at this game). I'm getting scared all the time, I even wasn't so far in the mine yet ... I love the game but sometimes I need a break because it influences me so much 😐Happy you made I through and looking forward to the next episode 👍

Nice Mug! I am personally a Shpongle fan ! Met Raja Ram on one occasion, on a lonely rainy railway station platform in Scotland a decade ago - he was a remarkably nice fellagh as you could imaging - we were all going to a small festival in the south of Scotland where there was a TIP world tent, and it was a goodly tent :)
I do a fair bit of psy/goa trance myself tho nothing special... but a best friend is half of Semsis; who you'd no doubt like :) They've had a few records out over the years on Dragonfly and Atomic

I like you use cloth clothes down here and basically drop everything I don’t need to get through gas in mine. Get maximum sprint. I took my bow last time though

Hopefully, you'll find more stim in the region, you found so many when you first explored in the other video.

Hey Zak, real quick at 24:04 you missed the Polaroid tacked to the board in the office. It’s hard to see at certain angles because of the cabinets.
UPDATE from the last video: I reached trapers cabin in mystery lake and set up the base there, hunted around 10 rabbits,1 wolfe,2 deer, looted the whole area exept the dam, i have a lot of food, canned food and 11kg o deer meat,planing to cook it, the plan for the future is go to milton the in hushed river valley to get the moose hide satchel ,but first i will get the MRES in the carter hydro dam,craftet the rabbitskin hat and mittens, i have a wormth bonus 22,maybe in the future head for timberwolf mountain and ash canyon. Well i wish a long run for everyone playing the game. But most important HAVE FUN SURVIVORS!!!!. AND STAY AWAY FROM THE TIMBERWOLFS
One area where the game/level designers did and still do a truly great job is increasing the difficulty enough that you really struggle in these new regions, but keeping it gradual enough that you still get a fighting chance. I really had a hard time on my first trip to FA, now it is just a region that is colder and more windy than the others.
Do the canisters last longer if you walk? would make sense, since you breathe more heavily while running or encounbered

Hi Zak. At 09:18 (Forgotten Exploration), if you go up on that little ramp, and to the top of the wooden structure, sometimes there´s a flare gun and some flare shells. Regarding the Scurvy Risk, although it seems you prefer to consume cat tails to mitigate it, I did some "science" (a boring test of drinking, checking, reloading the screen, drinking & checking again) and the teas are way better. Being: Rose Hip 13%, Herbal tea 11%, Burdock 7%, Birch Bark 6%, Reishi 5%. I would love to see you doing this. Just let the risk go up until, say, 50%, and then you drink one by one checking the mitigation risk percentages. Thanks a lot for the great video and... if eventually you character dies, well, for us it will be a prize, I mean, you will start again and we will have 500 days on top of 140 you already done! Lol!
Edit: I know they are not a sustainable way to do it, but since you are carrying so much of them on this run...
Thank you. I know cat tails are not as efficient, its just they are convenient and rosehips can also be used in pies :)
I don't think you looted the cabinets next to the stove either...
The problem I have with the mine is that while I'm wearing the mask I can't tell whether I'm still in the gas or not. So I end up wearing it for too long and running down all my canisters before I'm anywhere near to finished exploring.

Yeah, I was shocked when you pulled the respirator off and the oxygen bar had not at all refilled leaving you with only 8 seconds. Having such a dangerous condition behave unintuitively like that is not ideal.
why...are those cannisters soooo short usage? like... on top of all that....and you can't even hold your breath? I could probably do at least that short stretch just with a good lungfull of clean air!

I am doing buries echos and have been getting a bug where when I find a "report" and after reading it most of my ambient game sound is quite muted. It goes away after a reload.

What would have happend if you ran out of cannisters? Would it be insta-death or would your suffication timer start going.
Your timer continues. You can see how when it ran out, it went back to 10s, which was the time zak had left when he first put on the mask. The mask pushes your timer. Only way to reset it is to find air pockets
@@Noxen74 yeah. I watched some videos on the suffocation mechanic and the respirator just pauses the suffocation timer.
So his decision to stim is a good one since he would have ran out of time.
i'm not sure but i think you missed a pocket of air at the last interception before getting the key and using the stim. i was watching the canister meter and it seems to stop decaying there. but i guess if you don't take the mask off it doesn't reset your lung meter
Edit: i rewatched it and i guess i was wrong. maybe you're supposed to find some more canister before going in there

I wonder if sprinting stops you from gaining "breath" while the mask is on. I wonder if breath is tied to the sprint meter, so wearing heavy clothes gives you less time before you need a mask.
I am pretty sure it doesnt matter- the timer was the same on runs where I spawned in ZOC
It’s warm in the mines, because it’s indoors. So … why don’t remove the outer layer of the clothing and going lightweight?
Really wish there was a way to refuel canisters, maybe with charcoal and cloth. Not realistic perhaps but good for gameplay. They get used up so fast and ending a long run like that would be brutal. Not like this…
It’s realistic to recharge it by burning the coal in it… this removes the toxic.
