Road to 500 Days - Part 58: Langston Mine, Lower Levels

- The upper levels of the mine were more challenging than anticipated, but we will not be deterred. Best not to take chances, though, so time to get some fresh air, reset, and go back in.

For the love of god, the next time you or others reading this go to the deep mine, take off your heavy sprint-reducing bear coats and clothes! haha
Especially since its warm, and you arent going out any other way, but the way you come in.
Here and the line in black rock is the perfect to be in your birthday suit lol
This! Leave your heavy clothes and most of your gear at the entrance (or top of elevator climb). There’s very little gear you actually need down there.
I wore basically nothing and was still warm 😂
1:01:55 “imagine if the light went out…” I did a mine tour once, they take you a quarter mile in and switch from overhead electric lights for the tour to a single miners candle, which is super dim as it is, then they tell you about mine collapses that would blow out all the candles. Then they blow it out and you find yourself in the blackest black you can imagine. Literally can’t see the hand in front of your face! Very cool as a tourist, not so much if you were a miner back in the day!
Zakk Is the reason why I play the long dark and now I'm a pro at it thank you Zakk
1:02:19 "we have lots of food now" *has one can of peaches, two cans of soup, and 30 teas/coffees* 😁
As for the base, neither idle camp nor the mine buildings have a lot of fauna to hunt nearby, so I favored the trailer on the other side of the pit.
With how much Zak says he's got Loads of food and Loads of loot I'm really looking forward to a misery run when it comes out
Exactly what I wanted to listen to this morning. What a score!
Thanks Zak 😆
Zakk The legend of the long dark
I haven't done Buried Echos, so I'm very curious about it. Looking forward to watching.
Hi Zak. At 05:34, this place, Unquenched Extraction, is the only place that has suitable ice to fish on the entire ZoC. A little bit near the waterfalls. It is a little bit buggy. Sometimes you start to fish and then you are unable to light a campfire, and sometimes you start the campfire and then you can´t find the suitable ice. It´s a good way to kill the cabin fever and the Scurvy Risk. Two videos in two days is a gift for us viewers, and certainly hard work for you. Thanks a lot, man!!!
Edit: 42:43, is it a Stim on the top of the barrel?
That climbing in the dark bit was pure anxiety.
When you do go back to the Idle camp, there are ptarmigans just up the hill in the boss' settlement!
Tune in for Part 59 ;)
You can fish at that lake
you can, but that lake (and any other in ZOC as a whole) specifically is the worst for that in the whole game, i.e. you'll get less fish than in any other region in the whole game, and it's quite a noticeable drop
@@zurcus7224 Pretty sure it's the only lake to fish at in the region, a few tip-ups and a hole for yourself to fish provides food when there is lack of on the local fauna
@@zurcus7224doesnt matter, get yourself 4 tip ups and tend to them for a bit.
Most other regions you can use 6 without overfishing, but in ZoC, it is a max of 4.
@@Noxen74 Source? Haven't seen that anywhere else until your comment
what ?! another Part . You recovered fast from the last one XD
Man don't jinx it 🤣🤣
@@anasa3866 nothing better then a fresh start :) look at clicks when a TLD creator uploads part 1
If you throw a flare into the elevator shaft the little bit of light will help you see the ledges
21:35... joke to play on a friend. tell them would they like to see an impression of "drawing a blank". ask them to give you a blank sheet of paper. you pretend to draw on it with your finger. then you hand it back to them and say, "there...i drew a blank."
Almost shouted out when you slipped on the rope, not gonna lie. After all your recent close calls this was a very difficult video to watch haha. Good job. I'da been out of cannisters after that level 1 scare.
Imagine, the gas would be inflammable and when you light the torch you blow the whole mine…
Man level one scared me off i commented on a previous video about how i went through all my canisters in level one, since then probably 200 days have passed at least and i haven't gone back but after watching this ill definitely be making my trip back to ZOC much sooner than i probably would have
With canisters being finite, aren't you worried that by the time you need to do Buried Echoes you would have run out?
1:10:50 was a heart stopping moment for me!
Likewise! What even happened?
@@ConatusGames I believe Zak said that Astrid lost her grip. Can’t say I’ve ever seen either character lose their grip in all the playthroughs I’ve watched. Still my heart stopped as she fell. Thought forsure that was the end!😲😀
@@FreezerBurn. She definitely lost her grip, but as far as I knew that only happens when out of grip stamina (the meter on the right while climbing). But she was at full. Really weird!
I actually have no idea if you can fall for real. I've taken falls like this before (at 0 grip strength) where the character loses some progresses (and the player needs a heart transplant), but I don't know if you can actually hit the ground. The possibility makes it scary every time, though!
Two episodes in a row, nice !
You can't go wrong when you go right in a maze.
Another jerrycan as you said, I haven't found a single in my run after exploring DP, CH, PV, TWM, AC, ML, MT, BR, FM.
This elevator rope feels deadly if you can't find the ledge in the dark, I got to remember that when I go there. And what the hell happened on your last climb, is that because of glimmer fog maybe ?
For the rope, maby you can light a flare or put the lantern in the bottom, so it lights a little bit the elevator?
Reishi tea is a Vit. C source, it's just...rather low...but it's a thing.
14:29 Here's another game mechanic that doesn't make a lot of sense if you think about it for a minute. Inside your bedroll, it feels like 70C, which would cause heat stroke pretty quickly. You'd probably overheat even if you took off all clothing and lay directly on the snow.
Have you ever been to a sauna?
@@simon4321 I believe one uses a sauna for a few minutes at a time while lightly clothed or naked. One doesn't put on multiple layers of winter clothing and sleep for ten hours. Maybe it would work to sleep at that temperature naked, but you'd still need to drink frequently to avoid dehydration.
Perhaps more importantly, it's not possible to heat the air outside to that temperature with just a fire barrel. Saunas are enclosed for a reason. The Long Dark has a simple temperature model that doesn't take heat flow into account. That's not a knock on the game. I was just thinking about whether the game mechanic makes sense like Zak had about the respirator.
Yaaaa new episode 😊
49:42, BTW, you can avoid using the respirator in this area by popping in and out of the gas.
Please build a rock cache.
I can hardly watch this, I'm already unwell in most of the caves and this building makes me feeling seck even without the gas 🙈 some of the less times I need to switch forward a bit
famous last words :)))
I wonder if that forgotten work site counts as a cave?
Hungry. blizzard, wolf… the beginning was so stressful
Grab 75kg of coal and bring it with the sled to the next fishing hut. So you can spend 100 days with fishing and eating fish… 😂
hello Zak! , thank you for your videos, I learn a lot from them and I like to sleep sometimes when you talk, you have a nice, calm voice. I have 2 questions. how long is the respawn of a bear and a moose after killing it on the interlooper on day 60. How long does it take to respawn coal from the mine. thank you greetings!!
Hi. I dont have the numbers in my head but I reckon its 20 days for a bear - longer for moose. Coal takes about 21 days to respawn.
@@Zaknafein thank You! Greetings from Poland! 😃
40:21 CAROLIIIINE *PA PA PA*🗣️🗣️🗣️
Zak if you want to know how many flare shells youve shot you can just check your stats like you would to see if a bear has bked out
comment for the algorithm
Remember to get the bear before you leave ;)
also i stumbled on a new game i think you would like.. its pure pain! :D Project Zomboid, i aint affiliated with it in any way. But i found interloper easy mode after trying that out for a few hours
