2015 Grand Caravan 150k Miles Front Hub/Bearing Replacement

- The front left of the van started to sound like an airplane going down the road. Or like a lifted truck with huge mud tires. I could feel the vibration from the failed bearing. While it seems straightforward, I've heard horror stories of axles getting stubbornly stuck to the hub, requiring things like a 20-ton shop press and acetylene torches. With a high-mileage Vermont minivan on my hands, I'm praying for a smooth removal process. Follow along to see if this repair turns out to be a breeze or a battle!
Stuff I used in this video:

- 3/8" Dewalt Cordless Ratchet: amzn.to/49Vp16g
- Bauer Electric Impact Wrench: www.harborfrei...

What a multi talented guy! Can't believe all that van does and it's still singing!
Ha! Thank you 🙏 This van is definitely a cat with 9 lives. Maybe more!
Hmmm my van just turned over 315,000 and I’ve never touched the hubs. Maybe I should check those. 😂😂😂
I’m down in the Deep South though. 😎
If they’re not making noise I say roll on!! lol
Guessing it will slide right out especially if it's warn out. All mine usually do. BTW replacing rear dif on my cts this weekend. Cadillac rear dif strikes another!!
NOOOOOO!!!! Stinking rear diffs!!! :( I'm so sorry you're dealing with it.
I tried the bolt first but I didn't have grade 8's. Mine were rusted. They must use the cheapest Chinese steel they can find because they did not want to budge. I've now done all 4 wheels and I was trying to save somebody the crap I went through-just like you're doing
I read some guys story about how he ended up buying a 20 ton press just to remove the axle from the hub. Seems extreme but sometimes you refuse to lose lol I’m glad this went well. The bolt has saved me many times (often not grade 8) and works well for me 👍
Just out of curiosity, did you ever have to replace the other rocker arms and lifters? I know you only had 1 bad one.
So far so good!! But later I did have to pull the intake off again to replace the oil cooler.
@@sstressfl you didn't record it?
@@05fordvan Sadly no.... I spent the last year (almost) with a serious injury to my neck. I fixed the van but I was incapable of making videos. Too much pain. I was in a rough place.
You have all the cool toys !!! Great job Mike !!
Years of DIY and they just collect in the man cave! :) Thank you Robert 🙏 I hope you have sunshine and can enjoy a Saturday ride!
@@sstressfl posting now ... no sunshine but...
Great video. I have a 2016. Did you ever change the spark plugs? I looked on your channel and couldn't find any videos about it.
Thank you 🙏 I did change plugs when I had to fix a knocking rocker arm. Hope it helps :) ruclips.net/video/G4FuA0BHDrM/видео.htmlsi=4kaUcVs3B-FP8FUo
@@sstressfl Thank you. I remember watching the video now. I will watch it again.
Glad to see you back. Congratulations on a job well done. 👍
Thank you 🙏 so good to get back at it 👏👏👏
Great Job!!
Been thinking about doing this next, so thank you so much for the guide! My 04 Grand Caravan is at 160k and still rolling thanks to upgrades with the helpful skills of RUclips teachers like yourself. Where to find a hub puller that fits? 😂 Glad your alternative worked. Love your videos ❤
What an amazing library of knowledge-access we have on youtube. And thank you so much for the on-going encouragement. Us minivan folk need to stick together! 😎
I think I'm the next to fix it
Front right wheel Making

Since the time I buy a dodge i will be come a Mechanic Lol 😂
I changed the radiator I fix the slide indoor i couldn't lock It , i changed the thermostat i Replace the rocker arm , good thing I'm a handyman Otherwise I was gonna pay a lot $$ to mechanic
I start liking it now I'm excited for the next to pop up so i can fix it LOL 😆
It’s an awesome feeling to do it yourself and you are saving SO much money!! 💰😁 and yes just like you my grand caravan keeps my tools active and keeps me on my game 😂
Another great job! I wish I was as happy to be alive as you my friend! Such a happy good lucky person. 💯🔥🇺🇲
Good to see your text Paul! God is good! He carried me through these latest challenges with my neck pain, and there were times man... whew... on my knees looking for patience. And He gave it to me. Over and over again. Pain shapes character. I've aged more in the last 8 months than I have in 10 years. But my soul is alive and well. So thankful to be using my hands again. Praying that you find the kind of joy that lasts forever in Christ, my friend! God bless you.
Don't pound on it. Knock out a wheel stud and use a steering wheel puller through the hole
I understand that method works. But the bolt method is so much easier! No stud removal. Turning the nut adds a little force then a few hammer impacts and it comes right off. The end result speaks for itself.
@@sstressfl #1 You don't need to reuse the studs so knocking them out is a no brainer #2 you don't need to find the correct size nut and bolt (finding the right combination was a chore) #3 You have the benefit of fine threads and a bearing of sorts on the end of the puller to make your life easier
@@bobsnyder166 I can see that! I happen to have a new grade 8 the right size sitting on my work shelf. But I did not have a proper puller to use. The bolt has been a good cheap convenient tool.
