Verrrrry very cute, I love the octopus aesthetic too! I've done a ton of leather work, but not a lot of tooling (I usually need to use flexible 2-4 oz leather for my purposes), but now I wanna try tooling. Cuz, you know, I need yet another hobby *glances at the embroidery kit I just bought*
These came out super cute! Congrats on another successful leather project! I like your videos no matter what you're making, as long as you're having fun. =) Honestly, I never would have noticed the tooth missing if you didn't mention it. I had to really pay attention to even see the tiny gap. But then, I'm not super observant for stuff like that. I've been watching Nerdforge for a few years and only recently noticed that Marina's missing a pinky finger. I went back to watch older videos of theirs and realized that this is not at all recent; I just never noticed. I think if you don't draw attention to things that you're self-conscious about, most people may never notice. ;) Lastly, as another commenter said, having a missing tooth is very on-brand for your pirate series. 🏴☠
I didn't relaize you were trying to go to the PA ren faire for pirate weekend. I'm glad you had fun! I went the weekend before and had so much fun for my first ren faire since I was little. I'll have to go down to the MD ren faire some time!
So many exciting videas coming! Love how the cuffs turned out and I keep telling myself "you don't need another hobby" but who am I kidding I will try it eventually (just maybe after I finish my master's)
Aarrr, the missing tooth just makes you look more piratey, matey! Obviously you lost it in a tavern brawl or while fighting the redcoats. Love the cuffs, elastic lacing was a stroke of genius. P.s. I also have a missing tooth, luckily it's a molar cuz I can't afford a replacement lol.
Aw haha thank you so much! I did feel like it suited this costume rather well and I’m becoming less self conscious of it over time 😅 yeah I think if it were farther back Id just let it go, the implant is definitely putting me in some debt
To help with tooling, a granite slab will help can always get a piece for free from counter top places. Colour transfer, you need to buff the dyed piece A LOT with a old shirt or scrap cotton fabric between applications and sealing. Also you don't need to dye the inside of the piece, can just seal.
The cuffs turned out beautifully. Well done. I agree that the Phebings container is a sloppy mess - I made a little cardboard tube and taped it to the side to hold the dobber. The black dye I used for my belt did some transfer to my sewing clamp, but it's been OK to wear. You could always slick the back of the cuffs with the same substance you used to slick the edges; it _may_ make a difference to the colour transfer you're getting on your wrist, but I'm not sure... - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
The drawing and the final design are both amazing but the slightly wonky transfer octopus made me laugh so hard! I would love to do more leatherwork like this but I have a feeling it would come out way more transfer octopus than final octopus if I tried it haha
These look amazing! To help with the colors bleeding onto your arms, I'd recommend moisturizing and polishing the cuffs and then using a chamois and brush until they're shiny and also you're not seeing any color rub off on the chamois, just like you'd do with polishing shoes. I personally use saphir medaille d'or macadamia oil renouvateur for the moisturizer and saphir medaille d'or cream polish but any leather moisturizer and cream polish would work (just be sure to avoid any polish with silicone in it)
Hi Minjee! Thanks for sharing ☺️ Your cuffs are so cute. How not to be inspired by Black Sails😉 your elastic trick is brilliant. See you in your next adventure 🏴☠️
I just wish you didn´t make excuses for your speaking with the thing in or the lack of a tooth. People that even look down on someone due to lacking a tooth only have themselfs to look down on. It´s nothing to be ashamed over or make excuses for becouse it´s nothing shameful or bad or wrong. It make it harder for people that do miss teeth to accept it and not be ashamed over themself for something they don+t need to be ashamed over.
Ahh this is so exciting to see someone properly work with leather and use the right tools etc!! Its looks really nice :) i am not sure if you already did this, but i do recommend some brown elastic shoelace so you dont have to undo the lacing every time you put them on! Especially nice for if you dont have anyone around to help imo.
I highly recommend getting lexol leather conditioner to help get the leather more relaxed and worked in. I ride horses and lexol is the brand I prefer to clean my boots and tack. You can get a cleaner and a conditioner. It’s really high quality. Cleaning and conditioning your leather products help make them last much longer. I have a pair of boots that have lasted me over 3 decades because I take care of them. Obviously other brands are good too, I just have my go too. I’ve never worked in leather like this and am very interested in this as a project! Neets foot oil is also great at waterproofing for extra protection in weather, I personally use Murphy’s oil for that but I’ve never heard anyone complain about the neets foot.
I think they're great! Was that a finger-stabilized X-acto you were using? (and shh - Is it my imagination, or are you having more fun? Maybe you are actually a pirate?)
I’m not exactly sure what it is, but I think I got it at an art supply store? I couldn’t find my smaller exacto but I think the heftier blade works better anyways 😅 and I definitely had a lot of fun with this one! Reveal felt less serious bc I was able to do it while having fun with friends 😊
Since the dye should stop transferring once it’s absorbed oils, wouldn’t it work the same to put some cream or oil on it? I thought it might work but I’ve no leather working experience so I’m not sure Anyway, the cuffs look great! Can’t wait to see the whole outfit in the future!
What thickness of leather did u use for this? Ready to buy some and give this a shot but there are so many thicknesses i didnt know what to choose. Thanks! Love it!

Aah yes would definitely recommend waiting until you finish school, but it’s so much fun you should try it eventually!
Literally just bought leather hoping to make cuffs with it 😅 good timing for this video for me
Yess glad I can be helpful haha

Ooh ok noted, that is all super helpful, thank you!
PA Ren faire is super close to me, it's such a fantastic event. I haven't been in a few years but I hope you had fun!
I had a great time it was so much fun!

Omg I literally just started my first leather project yesterday. Leather bracers for cosplay. Glad to see this it gets me motivated.
Aah good luck with your project!
Love seeing others leatherwork! We need more people in the hobby!
LOVE the octopus cuff. Completely adorable.
thank you!
The drawing and the final design are both amazing but the slightly wonky transfer octopus made me laugh so hard! I would love to do more leatherwork like this but I have a feeling it would come out way more transfer octopus than final octopus if I tried it haha
Also elastic on your bracers is a classic LARP hack, absolutely works great
The octopus is my favorite but they both look really niiiice~ Can't wait for the full leather armor tutorial to drop in fall 2024 haha.
Thank you! Haha I’m going to be starting a leather armor project soon!
These are so cute! Love the motifs you chose. Cant wait to see more of this project!
Thank you!!
Yesss more leatherworking! I especially love the octopus!
Sorry if this is weird, but your voice is just incredibly calming anyway the cuffs look amazing! Can't wait to see the rest of the costume pieces

Thank you for watching! I’m glad you liked them 🥰 see you next time!
They turned out so good! I love octopus aesthetic so much!
Aah thank you! I’m very pleased with the octopus haha I think it’s so cute
It was so cool to see these in person and now see the process of how you made them! I learned so much. Makes me want to try and make my own. 🤩
I actually just finished my pirate shirt that had been a wip for _a lot_ of months! I love the cuffs!
Congratulations! Haha I feel the endless wip stage
They are really neat looking! Great job!
Erika
Omg love these designs!! They're so cool and agree with everyone - the tooth gap is on brand and yet not that noticeable at all!
Your glasses are gorgeous! Also love all the applique sweaters you wear x
thank you!

I paused the video and when resuming it after typing my comment i saw that you did use elastic haha my bad.

Also I reported a few of the comment…they were not good.
I removed them! And that’s good to know I’ll look into that! I appreciate the advice 😊
@@moth.faerie no problem! I hope it helps!
I'll also vouch for Lexol, great stuff!!
I think they're great! Was that a finger-stabilized X-acto you were using? (and shh - Is it my imagination, or are you having more fun? Maybe you are actually a pirate?)

I am so excited for these
Very pretty 😀
I think they turned out great
Thank you!
they look so cool!

I thought it might work but I’ve no leather working experience so I’m not sure
Anyway, the cuffs look great!

Idk that might work but I didn’t wanna over oil it and have the oil transfer 😅 gotta do more research haha
Maravilhosa Simplesmente Espetacular Magnífica incrível...
What thickness of leather did u use for this? Ready to buy some and give this a shot but there are so many thicknesses i didnt know what to choose. Thanks! Love it!
I believe I used the 2-3 oz vegtan from Tandy!
Thank you!! Getting some tomorrow!
