@SMARTrides Personally I look for cleanliness and lack of noise, which Samsung does well simultaneously. I don't care about colour correction because I use Adobe Lightroom for Android a LOT (And you should, too, that thing is free and can completely turn photos around). I can change colours and white balance and exposures and everything later on, I just need the details in. This causes me to shift towards Note20 Ultra a lot.
The problem is that a hardware upgrade will result in a short-term decrease in performance, since they will have to recalibrate or even throw out a massive amount of machine learning data aggregated over several years. The first phone with the upgrade will take probably a year+ to reach full potential.
My results: 1. Pixel 5 (10 points) 2. Tied. Note 20 Ultra and iPhone 12 each had 8 points Wow! I was really surprised at how tough it was to tell the Note 20 from the others. Normally Samsung phones are wildly oversaturated in comparison to the others. Similarly, iPhone photos are normally so much warmer. These cameras all improved so much over the years! It really is...got to say this is first time I would probably be as happy with a Samsung phone camera vs my iPhone.....the Pixel did well on certain use cases but I agreed with the reviewers on every shot apart from 1.
Note: 10 Pixel: 8 IPhone: 7 I did the test watching in 4k on my TV, maybe the compression of the video kills some detail and I thus chose the Pixel more often than the reviewers? Note: 11 iPhone: 8 Pixel: 6 Seems like all decent cameras, but overall I think the Note 20 Ultra has the best camera. Best at some things and good to very good at everything else.
@@iamgood8558 a lot of these things are subjective. But from my eyes, the Pixel seemed to be the inferior camera of the 3. And the Note being the best overall.
@@iamgood8558 MKB did these kinds of tests before, but with MILLIONS of users, fully blind tested. Result was that the iPhone always fails in the first round and the Samsung ends up in the final against itself or against an Huawei. The masses prefer how the Samsung and Huawei takes pictures. There is a difference between professionaly accurate (that's how Max judged it) and what the masses like.
As someone who takes a billion photos a day with a cellphone I can tell you that most of the time you're likely choosing the apple photos because they're lighter. The pixel and the iPhone are so similar but different in their retouching. The reason I like the pixel photos more is because I want to be the one to retouch my photos, and not have the phone do it in a noticable way.
I think the pixel contrast and black point are just a little too high for me. I love the sky pictures the pixel takes but I still prefer the iPhone in terms of selfie camera quality and the camera software in general. For me all those cameras are great but I’ll stick with iPhone (which got 14 in my final results lol)
I have always owned Pixels since the first one. For some reason, it was pretty close between the iPhone, and believe it or not, the Pixel. I prefered a lot of the shots taken on there, it slightly surprised me that so many other people went with different cameras. Super cool!
@tom lewis I'm not wrong, I merely disagree with the completely legit preference stated in the comment I'm replying to (which I of course shouldn't have done without asking you for permission)
That's because most people gravitate towards the pictures that pop the most, MKBHD found this out with his blind camera test. Over 80000 people voted and consistently they voted for the brightest and most contrasty picture
This was pretty fun I’m excited on getting my I-Phone 12 Pro 256GB this friday by mail and allowing us to play along was neat and made the video more interactive. Got a sub from me. Much love.
Relying entirely on software and never updating the hardware is catching up with Google Pixel. I got iPhone: 12 Pixel: 6 Note: 7. But, Pixel came in last 18 times. Feels bad to use a $300 Android, these are all better than my phone.
4:44 The first image with snow you says you don't like the other 2 coz the snow is not blue, but here the 1st image is the most realistic color of the snow. Come on man, be consistent.
iPhone: 11 Note: 7 Pixel: 7 I feel like the iPhone should have won more though but it fumbled some of the portrait shots pretty badly which is shocking since it has the LIDAR sensor. Still, it's probably the most consistent camera on any phone right now
@@zonyyu8412 Hmm, I didn't know that. Now that I think about it, that makes sense since the iPhone did well in the low light portraits. It should use the LIDAR for all portraits in my opinion
Very interesting considering the iPhone had most of the "I know which one I wouldn't pick" labels if I'm not mistaken. Along with a tendency shoot warmer skin tones.
So you prefer the Galaxy images. Just like the millions of other people that got blind tested chose too at the test Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) did. I just prefer bright, everything that I care about being visible and good colors.
@@Samosayummyyay in fact ir depends pf what it’s most important for the user with the camera, the Galaxy has BY FAR the best zoom, the iPhone takes very good night photos, and with good light photos the three phones do a good job, but being better in a lot of circumstances (for me) the Galaxy, but not so much better. The sad thing is that the three do a bad job with the portrait pictures and the edges, even the iPhone with lidar.
I have always been an iPhone fan but I did the test unbiased. My results were: Pixel 5 - 10 points iPhone 12 Pro - 8 points Note 20 Ultra - 7 points Out of these three phones, I would say the Pixel 5 is the winner. One thing I would mention though, is that its kinda unfair. Seeing as how the iPhone 12 Pro isn’t Apple’s flagship, The iPhone 12 Pro Max is. So the real test will be when the iPhone 12 Pro Max comes out. Anyway great review Max Tech, and thx for the blind test, as I having seen others doing it yet.
This was really fun to watch! I got 11 for the iPhone 9 for the note 20 ultra and 5 for the pixel very fun video!!!! Keep making the great tech content
I've been waiting for this for weeks! Thank you, thank you. No bias, just reality. With these I always do a "could be happy with" second tally in addition to the main tally since there are times that I'm between two photos and could be happy with either shot. For first choice only: iPhone: 7 Note 20: 10 Pixel: 8 For first choice + could be happy with second choice: iPhone: 7 + 5 = 12 Note 20: 10 + 2 = 12 Pixel 5: 8 + 10 = 18
On the shot with the pinecone and hand. How in the hell did the iPhone fail badly? I would of thought the LiDar thing would help a whole lot with doing good background blur.
05:51 pixel camera is outstanding, the edge detection, subject details, hand wrinkles and ring, difference between subject and background, colour correction. Pixel rocks👍👍👍
iPhone 12 Pro - 10 Pixel 5 - 4 Note 20 Ultra - 11 I was surprised how well the Note performed and how the Pixel lagged behind. Google needs a hardware update to the camera as the algorithms will only compensate for so much.
Same here, i love how they treat colors, i love their photo, except few picture where i prefer iphone, and the only pictures where i prefer Samsung are the zoomed one
This time all phones took amazing shots, my points are nearly identical. Pixel and Note 20 is a tie for me and iPhone 12 Pro is last. My points: -Note 20: 9 -iPhone 12 Pro: 7 -Pixel: 9
The problem with these sorts of tests is that most people are not photographers and judge by “pretty” rather than “accurate”. You often need to see the actual real life scene to know which picture is more accurate. Also, isn’t there a massive cost spread between these devices? Doesn’t the Note 20 Ultra start at $1400?
Kay R unfortunately I’m an Apple fan girl so switching probably won’t happen. However, I’ve always loved pixel phones. If my brain wasn’t old and resistant to change I’d get one
Pixel 14 Note 7 iPhone 5 I think the optical zoom on the note is insane. but overall I went for the pictures with the most natural colores and the most detail. very good comparison :) btw the last one got the note :D

How far apart the pixel is in terms of pricing to the other two phones. Haven't seen many camera reviews on the Galaxy FE but I would love to see how it compares with the pixel's camera. But awesome video!

Editing point - Please show the viewers the actual photos BEFORE commenting if you're asking us to follow along. Otherwise, I get a view of your screen and hear your opinions before I get to judge for myself. Also, lingering on the result caption for each one a bit longer would help us process which was which. Lastly, a tripod or multi-phone rig would eliminate some of the variations in framing. At times, it was a matter of where the phone focused that made or broke the image for me. I had to stop watching about 1/4 the way in as it was just a bit too much.
I completely agree with this assessment and in fact had pointed this out in my previous comment! A shame that @MaxTech only hearts comments with good vibes instead of valuing constructive criticism.

for someone with VR or Architecture apple may make more sense
But i would miss any features Apple has right now on- in fact i even think i would be in advantage by not buying 12. series and going for a mate 40pro+
But then again, you wont really miss too much if you go either way.
If anything i appreciate the design on Apple's side as of right now. I really dont like curve edged phones..
but camera design on huawei's side is phenomenal on their flagship phone too
@@Progan666 Ik huawei is out cos of that.
Im not a scientist but what i can say is that they deliberately put worse either chip for cpu or 5G, i am not sure but i think 5G chip is separated from cpu, but cpu is not as optimized for 5G use as it should be which corresponds with battery usage

no fence but the freaking note is horrendously bad i think pixel then iphone 12 then the cough cough note
There is a difference between professionaly accurate (that's how Max judged it) and what the masses like.
that’s my opinion
Max: "Google what are you doing?"
Google looking at their outdated pixel hardware: "Huh? Nothing."
wait, you have a brother that looks exactly like you? and I thought it was you. mind blown!
Did half the test and yeah my taste mostly goes to Pixel photos. I've also been trained with the Gcam.
Well this was a lot of fun to watch, I’m leaning towards the pixel now.
I have always owned Pixels since the first one. For some reason, it was pretty close between the iPhone, and believe it or not, the Pixel. I prefered a lot of the shots taken on there, it slightly surprised me that so many other people went with different cameras. Super cool!
I just love the way how iphone render faces and skin tones

You guys were always picking the brightest and the warmest photo
I would too, that’s looks the best to me
That's because most people gravitate towards the pictures that pop the most, MKBHD found this out with his blind camera test. Over 80000 people voted and consistently they voted for the brightest and most contrasty picture
I think note 20 Ultra did the best job over all (except for the night mode), but that seems reasonable because it has the biggest camera

I feel like the iPhone should have won more though but it fumbled some of the portrait shots pretty badly which is shocking since it has the LIDAR sensor. Still, it's probably the most consistent camera on any phone right now
It doesn’t use LIDAR for normal portraits. Only for lower light does it get utilized.
@@zonyyu8412 Hmm, I didn't know that. Now that I think about it, that makes sense since the iPhone did well in the low light portraits. It should use the LIDAR for all portraits in my opinion

I’m an iPhone user and this hurts haha
Should wait for iphone 12 pro max:)

Out of these three phones, I would say the Pixel 5 is the winner.

I've been waiting for this for weeks! Thank you, thank you. No bias, just reality. With these I always do a "could be happy with" second tally in addition to the main tally since there are times that I'm between two photos and could be happy with either shot. For first choice only:

This is pretty cool. I think it would also be helpful to get an opinion from the person who took the pictures on which one is most life-like.
On the shot with the pinecone and hand. How in the hell did the iPhone fail badly? I would of thought the LiDar thing would help a whole lot with doing good background blur.

I've always loved pixel cameras, and at first I was a little disappointed but then I thought of two things:
1. How close the amazing qualities of these photos are
2. How far apart the pixel is in terms of pricing to the other two phones.
