🚨WILL BE AT DEALERS THIS SUMMER!! If I remember they said June/July with Hybrid Max rolling out a month or so after.🚨 So how about that MPG and MSRP? Thoughts?
Really surprised on the mpg for the Hybrid MAX.
Real world driving on my ‘21 Highlander Platinum V6 is 17 city/23 hwy/20 combined. I’ve been disappointed with it since day 1. Woman driven and in ECO mode.
@@Alpha1Photo same car as you. I get a little better on road trips at about 25.5 mpg. The city mileage is terrible!!!
@@golferpro1241 Very frustrating as 90% of my wife's driving is city...so 17 sucks. Might as well be a TACO or Tundra. We are looking at the new Mazda CX-90 or even the Lexus RX to get 8-10 more mpg. Also, do you notice the "estimated miles to empty" gauge is severely off? I almost can't even use the estimation since its so far off.
Ok bring your 1000/Mo. check every box get the top trim
We bought a GH Platinum Hybrid Max in Sepember of 2023. It now has 7650 miles on it. Over the weekend I drove from South Lake Tahoe, CA to Albany, Oregon and back for a total 1135 miles - I set the odometer at 0 at the start of the trip and didnt clear the mpg between refueling. That trip went over several mountain passes, through rain and sleet, driving around town a bit. My speed was set at 67 miles an hour on the freeway.
When I arrived back in SLT the mpg showed an overall average of 27.6 mpg. OUTSTANDING !
Full-time AWD, 400lb of torque...oh what fun it is !!!!!! And...everyone stop worrying about that one cannot put more than 13-14 gallons when empty in the tank. Toyota purposefully left a greater margin of fuel in the tank so not to damage the Turbo.
I get 375 miles from one tank (13-14 gallons) = 27.5mpg
Nice!!!!!
Thanks, I've been waiting on the hybrid Grand Highlander! A bunch of functional space and great mpg.
For sure!!!
Appreciate you Jon, I never miss your video since I started watching your channel
Man I really appreciate you!
Great pricing for good upgrades. I have a 23 XLE and love it. All wheel drive is a must here in the winter. Thanks for sharing the information.
Of course
Do you think the regular Highlander is severely de-valued due to this pricing for Grand Highlander?
Love the video straight to the point awesome 👍🏾
Always
Thank you for highlighting pricing!
Wish Toyota would make AWD standard on SUV’s like many of their competitors smh 🤷♂️. Great review
Thanks!
Its unncessary. FWD and good tires are all you need unless you drive yourself into a ditch
This is why I’m not worried about the new power train in the new Tacomas, I know it’s a truck and it’s totally different but people are dramatically making it seem like it’s the end of the world.
Wow! Those are some great numbers mpg and price wise.
Very good right?
$58K is not good "price wise".
I’m really liking the 2.5L hybrid! Seems like the most refined out of the 3!
Definitely a good option
but he said 175 torque?.... i dont know if hes mistaken
I drove the gas model and love it. I want hybrid, waiting to find one I can test drive with the 2.5l to make sure it has enough pep. That mpg tho.. literally checks all the boxes for me, coming from a civic, fuel economy is very important, but needing a larger vehicle.
I plan to buy Honda Pilot EX L, but I will wait for this car XLE AWD.
I would go with the limited hybrid max. Looking forward to your driving impressions video.
Thanks Analy
me as well. that seems like the sweet spot. I don't really need the panoramic roof in Arizona. it's nice that the limited gives you the ventilated seats
Go ahead. Bring your 1000/Mo.
hybrid max limited will do.... 54k would be reasonable, unless they will add more dollars.
In Canada a base Grand highlander is $7000 more than a Honda Pilot. Top GH is the same price as an MDX. I will take a pilot trail sport over this. No turbo issues
Your money…2.4L hybrid doesn’t have a turbo. Does the Honda get 35-40 MPG?
@@microbiologycory10 yes, the 2.4 litre is a turbo.
Here is the biggest problem with grand Highlander-there will be 25 gasoline models at the dealership, 1 hybrid and 1 hybrid max. The same story with Highlander.
Thar is intentional
Toyota wants to steer buyers to hybrid , give them that option....er wait what
You said only gasoline models will be readily available?😅
Yep and I’d rather have the hybrid especially with this big vehicle. That 2.4 cylinder turbo kinda sucks that we even have that option for this big of a vehicle.
Good info as always.
Quick hit of info that really matters
@@TRDJon exactly what I was waiting for👍
Being waiting for this info
Of course! Had to wait for embargo
The starting prices for the Grand are much higher than the standard Highlander. No problem finding a new standard in the $40k to $43k range nicely equipped but the lowest you will find a Grand is about $47k and up. If you can find one and it doesn’t have additional dealer markup. It’s a great new vehicle but the top of the line is getting into Sequoia territory.
You sure the 2.5 L hybrid torque number is right? You listed it at 175 lb-ft. I saw a few other channel, saying around 259lb-ft
That’s what the paper I had said. But that seems low.
From Toyota's website: *Hybrid powertrain - 2.5-liter L4HV Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) 16-valve D-4S injection engine; 243 combined net hp, 175 lb.-ft. @ 4400 rpm*
Engine code is A25A-FXS, also used in Sienna, NX350h, RX350h, etc.
For the other engines:
Gasoline engine - 2.4-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) 16-valve D-4S injection 265 hp @ 6000 rpm, 310 lb.-ft. @ 1700-3600 rpm
Hybrid Max powertrain - 2.4-liter 4-cylinder turbo Hybrid MAX 16-valve D-4S injection engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i); 362 net combined hp @ 6000 rpm, 400 lb.-ft. @ 2000-3000 rpm
I’m hyped. Nothing about this car has let me down so far. If you were to guess, any idea when these will start selling? Also do you happen to know if there will be a blacked out version? I’ve yet to have seen all of the color options.
No blacked out at the moment. Next month they should be hitting the lots
@@TRDJon Hope I can get one asap. I’m in an old Honda Pilot lol. I considered the Kia Telluride, but I just think it would be a smarter move to get the Grand Highlander instead.
@@donjuan914 imo a smarter move is the telluride or palisade. The v6 is bulletproof and you don’t have to worry about overstressing the drivetrain. And both are far more upscale than the GH
G. Highlander Limited
Great choice!
Agreed. But I’m cheap so I’ll take the XLE AWD for $46k
I spit out my popcorn when I saw CVT. Ouch. That I don't think I could deal with, but I'm not in the market for one anyway. Another good video Jon. Thanks for always getting right to it. And I love that there's a gas can in the background. Our grandkids are never gonna hold one of those.
Thanks!! It’s a great cvt honestly. Toyota has one of the better cvt trans on the market imo
cool. i hope you feature the XLE trim!!
I have a short video on that one already. But I did drive the XLE as well with both the 2.5L and 2.4 Turbo. Was very very good for being the entry GH
Just watched it!! Thanks!
@@TRDJon yeah with those 18" wheels XLE had to have smoothest ride
surprised the hybrid max gets 27 mpg for the power and size of the vehicle! especially considering that it's only a $3k upcharge versus the limited hybrid. i'd love to test drive one.
Hopefully that bodes well for the new Tacoma
Trucks and SUVs are different
youre going to get about 18-20 mpg, those tiny motors on such a big platform will lag
MAX is 21 MPG in real world driving reviews…
Been waiting several months for Sienna XLE. I guess I will wait for Grand Highlander XLE. Similar price and cooler.
I’d stick with the Sienna, the Grand Highlander may look cooler but it will never beat the Sienna’s interior functionality.
@@smrtguy77777 and the sienna has more luxury features than even the most expensive GH
Stick with Sienna
Would you recommend this over the Hyundai Palisade?
I’d pick it over the Palisade any day. I’ve had one, not impressed. And after closely examining it and then having the Car Care Nit thoroughly review it… long term, it’s a bad bet. Glad I got rid of it.
I haven’t been in the Palisade. But looks alone I’d choose this GH
@@TRDJon thank you!
The limited is the best bang for buck.
I think for family hauling I’d go with sienna. Then have a Tacoma or 4Runner for everything else.
I don’t see these vehicles anywhere on the road. I went on a multi state road trip recently and didn’t see any on the road.
That seems weird to me.
Maybe now I can get a sienna at or below msrp. I have a gx if I want to go off road
MSRPs are meaningless these days. keep your old vehicles, stop letting these crooks rip you off. Who cares what MPG is when you have to pay 10k over sticker to get one.
Plenty dealers at MSRP and under...
@@TRDJon Can you do a video on Honest Toyota dealers that actually have new hybrid vehicles in stock and where they are located?
There are Facebook pages that have no mark up Toyotas and stuff.
all i need to know the body roll , apart of this , honestly if u remove Toyota Front and back logo and put Lexus , no one can tell ,that its Toyota .
Could the I force max numbers be an indicator for what the Tacoma could get? 27 on the highway?
Im hoping since the tacoma engine has a bit less horsepower that maybe it will get 1-2 mpg more. Lets hope!
Tacoma iforce max has more power. Maybe 23-24 for Tacoma. That would be sweet
@@TRDJon even if it was only 23-24 it would be a great improvement!
Hey thank you for the video. Quick question: we just picked up a new 2024 Grand Highlander Hybrid XLE. Car sticker says 35 miles city and 32 miles high way. I have so far driven it 380 miles (50/50 city/highway). It indicates it has 94 miles to empty. This is because I picked it up with a full tank of gas, capacity at 17.2 gallons. If I tally up all the numbers, I get an average of 27.6 miles of fuel economy, which is nowhere near the advertised fuel economy. Can you comment as to why the numbers are so different?
Will the limited trim have an available bench seat? That’s really important to me so if it doesn’t, I might have to settle for the XLE trim
Yes it will.
The funny thing about this price is this is just what Toyota say but the dealer would say something, maybe $10,000
I think going with XLE hybrid. Hopefully ill be able to lease one soon after they arrive!
Hi, when will your driving impressions video be coming?
This week!
G.R XLE Hybrid AWD is probably the best I think.
Grand highlander max oh yeah
$58k for Platinum Trim Hybrid is a steal.
Yes, they are stealing from the consumers.
At 60k you may as well get a base x5 or loaded MDX
@@naveenthemachine lol in two years you’re still gonna get more than half of value for Toyota compared to BMW and Acura
@@trumpisastump9382 in a world where Honda civics are pushing into the $40k range. It’s steal at msrp.
Towing capacity?
Hybrid: 3,500 lbs. Gas/Hybrid MAX: 5,000 lbs.
I just want one of those shirts 👕
Just left the dealership about an hour ago. None of these trims will be under 50 grand.
Yea probably gonna have to wait for the 2025 model year for prices to calm down
Sounds like you’re at the wrong dealer. Cuz they prices are under 50K
@@TRDJon Bro, used XLE 2023 HIghlanders are selling for $49K
Shop around, plenty of dealers that sell at MSRP or below.
@@smrtguy77777 @ a Ford dealer maybe
Dealers still running limited availability scam … let’s keep out of pocket as close to sticker as possible.
If only Toyota gave us a Taco in that 2.5L hybrid powertrain!!!
Toyota Stout. CVT for a body on frame truck wouldn't do the best imo.
I'm actually shocked by the pricing. At top trim, $58k, you've got everything you'd ever need and class leading power numbers, fuel efficiency, AND toyota reliability.
Last time I commented saying that my next big bucks purchase for a car will be the new 4runner if it gets redesigned but the grand highlander is making my heart waver. This is probably the best daily driver anyone can ask for.
$58K is Acura, MB, BMW, Infiniti, Audi, range. I think the MSRP is pushing the limits for a family mid-sized mainstream SUV.
@@trumpisastump9382 well yes, but that’s the way it goes - Honda Pilot at top trim can get you a base trim MDX. A top trim Pathfinder is about the base trim of a QX60. A top trim Atlas is a bit cheaper than the base Q7 though but Q7 is pretty expensive to begin with.
Remember, that $58k will be closer to $7k after "market adjustment", doc fees, taxes, upsales.
@@MrVuTran well, that’s true for a lot of new cars. You couldn’t get a MDX Type S without markups for awhile. They’ve fallen below MSRP now. Same for the NX hybrid and RX Hybrids when they first came out. They’re just at MSRP this month. Patience is a virtue for mass produced cars like these.
With interest rates sky rocketing, auto loans being a lot more expensive, inflation stubbornly persisting, and a possible recession on the horizon…a lot of shoppers aren’t going to just willy nilly throw $50k+ in cash for a car.
@@trumpisastump9382BMW X5 hybrid is $76K base…the rest are more.
Better sell my 2021 RAV4 XSE quick, Toyota dealer offered me $35k last week.
Do it!
Dealer offered me 12000 more than i paid for my 2023 Sienna
Jon where did you get the Trailhunter T-shirt??
IMO, the Highlander is going to continue to sell ... simply because there will be such a long waiting list for Grand Highlanders.
My wife and i love our new 23 XLE highlander. Super comfortable, plenty of space, and got it under msrp.
Ltd hybrid AWD & Ltd hybrid-Max AWD different is $2,980 more or 5.8%.... is it worth it?
I went to my local dealer they want to up charge 5k on h xle awd and 10k on h limited awd . So doesn’t make sense to pay 57k for h xle awd and 70k for h limited awd . I will get a Honda pilot base for 40k out the door.
Nice enjoy. Dealerships just need to be phased out.
I hope the Limited Hybrid max has pano roof and bench seats second row, if not I am out.
WOW! They threw the gloves off with that pricing.
Lol 😂
Yes, they want to fight the consumers over the MSRP.
@@TRDJon I am sure the stealerships will fill in the gap with their markups and stupid mandatory packages.
A dealer told me today they wont have them until next year! Will I have better luck at a bigger dealership?
Probably yea. They come out this year.
This pricing is probably going to mirror the 6th gen 4runner, and the Tacoma engine config
How much for it
I have a 2022 Highlander, do you think this pricing makes the old Highlander obsolete? Or severely de-valises? I have an XLE and it’s perfect except the third row seating
I wonder what would it take to upgrade?
If I was in the market, I'd personally buy this over the standard Highlander
My dealer in Ohio is discounting the standard Highlander $ 3000. This explains why.
@@paulstein9258where in Ohio bro?....
Whats a average paynent a month
Toyota 2020
Highlander is perfect size
Make the 3rd row work and live with 2 usb
Toyota in 2023
Forget all that
Highlander too small
Not enough usb
We create grand highlander
We make more room
We give you 7 USB
You thank us now?
You buy this now?
what 175 torque?
When are they out?
Was this the same island as the Tacoma launch?
Correct
I will stick with my 2023 highlander xse windchill pearl with red seat with sporty look than that grand rav4 look 😂
Is the Platinum Hybrid missing in that price list?
There is no platinum hybrid. Only gas and hybrid max
Inline 4 turbo is a terrible idea so much carbon residue when you spool up the engine's rpm and cvt, I'm out Honda pilot for me!
Enjoy
I've never seen highlander here in Qatar
Big SUV getting 40mpg or so very impressive.
Agreed
There’s nothing else that’s even close.
Why couldn't they give the Tacoma 362 Hp?
Will the hybrid max offer an option for a bench seat for the second row
Not usual for high end to have bench option in Toyota SUV's or Sienna for that matter, so I doubt it
No. Hybrid max will have captains chairs due to the batteries
Thanks
I think I’ll take one of those Trailhunter shirts, skip the Grand Highlander and go straight for the TX 550h+
It will be interesting to see what the MSRP will be on the TX. At $58K for the Grand Highlander, Lexus will have to push the price higher.
@@trumpisastump9382 but based on what we’ve seen so far with the interior of the tx It’s not looking good at all
Hybrid is the way. Not the bs ev.
It is. Or Toyota prime. PHEV
Is 2nd row bench optional?
Yes if you get XLE or Limited trim
Sunroof is extra?
Yes
is the price in usd or cad?
US..
So much for Toyota being affordable.
How is 43K for a well decked out car not affordable? For a family hauler
It’s competing with Chevy Tahoe/Yukon, Ford Navigator, Jeep Grand Cherokee…all $80k, worse dependability (per Consumerreports), worse MPG per EPA.
I'll stick woth my 2008 suzuki grand vitara!
The 2.5 Hybrid looks like the best option among the powertrains but it's a stinkin CVT, why toyota!!!!
Drive a Toyota CVT. It’s actually really good
Great job Toyota! But good luck getting these at MSRP..
Let's see dealer markups
Or not. That would be nice
Markups are gonna make it impossible get one.
The base price is a lot lower than I thought
However the top end price is a bit of a problem. Because it’s more expensive than rivals yet less luxurious and it lacks a lot of features for the price
If a 53k sienna has more luxury features than a 60k grand highlander there’s no excuse for the GH to be this expensive
Different vehicles and different features. Powertrain alone the Sienna diesn't add up vs a Hybrid Max
@@TRDJon the hybrid max sure is lacking but it’s not just that. For the money you’d want to also have luxury features that you’d expect at 60k.
What more luxury features are you needing that it doesn't have?
@@TRDJon let’s see
1. 4 zone climate control
2. 4 way lumbar
3. Power tilt telescope wheel
4. Heated 3rd row seats
If a Toyota sienna can offer the first 3 features for less than a GH then that’s inexcusable.
Just quit.
2.4 turbo anything? No thanks.
I’m glad I got my 22’ platinum 3.5 to run me thru anything.
Enjoy!
Any update on release date
Should be rolling out next month
I remember the days SUV were made to pull things now a days we care about MPG wtf 😂😂 that little 4cyl will give problems that thing is heavy bruh
Well this is a crossover sooooo
i still dont see how its better than a sienna. Your not taking either one of them off-road. Sienna has superior mpg and interior space
Sienna is about the same MPG I thought. No load flat floor in the back of the sienna which is a fail compared to this IMO
@@TRDJon new sienna is 36mpg and cheaper. Its not "load flat" because its deeper...ie for extra room. That isnt a negative. You can also fold the back seats down if you want it flat to use it as truck. Although you should really use a truck or trailer for such tasks to avoid damaging your interior. I have a 99 tacoma I bought new (do my own maintentance), 2013 rav4, and am on my second sienna. My extended family has probably 12 toyotas including 3 highlanders. The highlanders are nice and I considered down sizing to one but then i saw they would actually cost me more. We take the sienna on 4k mile road trips twice a year. You cant beat the interior for road trips. Regularly cram 7-8 people in without "hes touching me" arguments. Sheer ice, snow, heavy rain...fwd and good tires = no issues.
I am with you
Hopefully, they discontinue the Sequoia. That thing was left behind over a decade ago...
Two different buyers
The new sequoia is a catastrophic mess
The older one is so much better
$5000-$10000 makeup possible kills Toyotas reputation .
ill take an xle awd with turbo
That’s almost 4Runner prices
And the 4Runner is 14 yrs old…
Nooooo not a CVT. Better come with a transmission cooler from the factory
First off it’s not really a CVT. It’s an eCVT. It’s just a pair of electric motors that act as a transmission
It’s been used in the Prius for decades and even in the GS450h or ls600hL. So you don’t need a cooler.
@@naveenthemachine thank you for this information. I honestly wasn’t aware, I thought the e of the eCVT had to do with “first gear” on a CVT because I’ve heard Toyotas first gear on their CVT is very different than the traditional CVT
@@jdsayler96 the first gear CVT is on the corolla. The eCVT is completely different and no gears to worry about
I love what you do for me......
