China's Shiming Zou wins the men's boxing light fly (49kg) gold medal as Thailand's Kaeo Pongprayoon takes the silver medal (11 August 2012)
Boxing made its Olympic debut at the 1904 Games in St Louis, since then boxing has been staged at each edition of the Games, except in 1912 in Stockholm, owing to Swedish law, which forbade the practice.
The rules have evolved since the 1980s: 1984 in Los Angeles: protective helmet obligatory; 1992 in Barcelona: set-up of an electronic scoring system to strengthen the objectivity of refereeing; 2007: standardised point scoring. Women's boxing will make its debut at the 2012 London Games in London.

the thai did a good job on timing and countering.. very tactical despite his short reach he made the fight work for him.. if they ever fought proffesional. id put money on the thai..

to be fair, I don't support boxers from either country but from what I just saw, the Thai boxer should have won in my honest opinion, maybe by a small margin but still, the Thai boxer deserves the gold medal.

Maybe Zou played the rules well and catch up the points. But absolutely the Thai player is more aggressive and showed a good performance. I’m support the Thai player in this game even I’m Chinese.

you guys have to realize that amateur boxing is based on the count of punches that have clean contact on the other person, only on certain areas of the body. in terms of POINTS, zou shiming won. if this were a pro bout, the thai boxer would have won.
you shouldn't think a boxer loses just because you don't like his style. actually look at and count the number of clean shots. not bunny shots. not glancing blows. this is amateur boxing.

O.K... I just saw this guy's pro performance, and Zou Shiming is all flash, and no substance... He fought with his hands low, kept his mouth open, and had lack of defense. He relies too much on his speed (which was impressive). Bob Arum should've gave that deal to Kaeo Pongprayoon!! His style is more suited for the pro ranks.
