Want to know exactly how you should be training? Learn how on John's discus throw and rotational shot put course - / 96708 Discus Technique Drill | The South African
Yet another very descriptive vid, less than 7 minutes yet packed with great details. I'm coaching kids in athletics/track&field but discus has never been my "thing" so I've spent the last three months watching your vids and learnt loads. Now I can prepare discus training sessions for my kids as well as helping them with their technique. It's actually gone so far that I've bought myself a discus just to feel/experience the techniques I teach...:)
Your coaching is getting more definitive every month “, this is how x y &z”. Your athletes have to be getting better simple executing language =simple concrete results. Great job thank you so much.
John Thank you again for the videos. In earlier videos when landing in the middle, you had communicated holding that left arm towards the sector. In this video you are saying to keep rotating your left arm continuously. Have you changed your thinking on wrapping/holding your left arm in the middle? Thanks
I'm glad you commented on this video. Where I am from it has always been called a South African and I've always wondered why... I still don't know why! 🤣
Ready for our 2020 training camp. I am in general prep and focusing on technique, time to fix my technical pitfalls.
I'm up for that 💯💪
I’m a middle school discus thrower and I’m aiming for school record and this will help a lot
What's the record

Hi! you should activate the subtitles of your videos in more languages. This way they will reach a larger audience. Greetings!
Question.....why is it important to keep the knees in such a open way?
Open knees helps you use your legs at the finish of the throw. Open knees = strong hips = strong push = far throws
...my bread and butter since ankle surgery...

Do you ever have a high school athlete who may be very small and she has trouble using the entire ring.
Yes, that is pretty common and isn't a problem. Just have them start so that when they finish they are closer to the ring.
I threw 140 once
