@Michael Fedak An actual debate is judged on the content of what is being said, and not in interrupting other debaters or being loud. If you live under a rock and you watched the video, it's so easy to side with Lester because of his voice and conviction, plus you rarely hear the others speak. Is there any merit to his beliefs? Sure. Is his beliefs right? No. Is what he is saying bullshit? Those who know the actual facts are the only ones who can tell.
Lester Maddox is very similar to people who say "all lives matter", he actually says it during the full interview. To those people, saying "all lives matter" isn't racist because they see it as including "all lives". But, this very argument has been used time and time again to silence minority voices. Lester does it in the interview to Jim Brown. It has never been actually used to argue equality among all life. All lives only matter when black lives start to matter.
If winning a debate means silencing or disregarding all other voices, then yes he did win the debate. If we stick to an actual definition of a debate, there wasn't a debate here. Just a rant by one man named Lester Maddox.

@@michaelfedak2144 what’s a race hustler when they’re at home 😂 At the end of the day Dick made a clever or genuine mistake in repeating the question and substituting bigots for admirers but Lester simply saw the opportunity to focus on that so he could play the victim rather than answer the question. He wasn’t offended by it as he knew it was true. He clearly knew that if he followed his tac of suggesting he was not a racist he’d have to acknowledge there were white bigots in Georgia and that would have upset a huge population of his admirers...who were bigots 😂

As for equality of opportunity, I think that's mainly dependent on location and your family and social status, but race can sometimes have to do with not having equality of opportunity. Equality of outcome shouldn't exist for anybody because the outcome should mainly be dependent on the person.
In 1970, African-American 's in the South had no equality since 5 years prior they couldn't even eat in the same restaurant as a white person. But I do see a lot of 1st world problem snowflakes whining about how they cant say the n word anymore like the world has ended. That's an actual victim complex. Maybe you have me confused with them?
Also you're telling me that a guy who famously kicked black people out of his restaurant, closed his restaurant rather than accept pro-integration laws, and then ran for office as a segregationist... he isn't a bigot?
I mean we're not even talking about a contemporary figure here. This is a guy who is long dead, and lived throughout the civil rights movement on the segregationist side. It's ok to admit that pro-segregationists are bigoted you know... That's not a "libtard" thing to say. That's just bipartisan common sense.

And if you are taking offence to that comment about those snowflakes, that just tells me one thing... it exposes that you believe yourself to be in that camp if you're taking offence to the comment subconsciously. So again, you're kind of owning yourself...

I stayed up to watch it, and was thus sleep deprived the next day when I walked into World History. My teacher, Mr. Oshel, asked if anyone happened to see it, and the two of us spent the first half hour of class talking about it, while I quoted the best lines. Good old Dick Cavett. He got me out of most of what was surely a boring class lecture since Mr. Oshel was not a good teacher. I'm sure that everyone else in class was as bored with our discussion as I would have been with his lecture, but I remember it as great fun.

Bro its pretty much the same as whats going on now. Its scary how much we haven't learned as a people all this time. The governer is pretty much saying "ALL lives matter" and Jim Brown is saying "BLACK lives matter".
That substantive conversation gets sidetracked by the governors own emotions and the baiting of the host. Jim Brown and the governor would eventually realize they were saying the same thing if they had actually finished that conversation.
Same thing in principle as today. I support Trump because I can see his overall agenda which is the greater good of ALL of America, not any single parts of it. So does Jim Brown ironically, as he was in the White House with Kanye. But two things cause a problem in today's conversation:
      1. the media that purposely misleads to keep people divided(same like this host dictated the audience's reaction in this video); and
      2. Trumps own emotions at times, which is his greatest strength and weakness.
      Crazy.

I saw this show the night it originally aired and happened to be audio taping the whole show which I still have. After Maddox leaves and after the commercial break Cavett explains that he went outside to try and convince the Governor to come back into the studio, he did not come back. At one point Cavett, Brown and Capote all sit there and talk about Maddox and his restaurant. Truman Capote then muses that once he went to the restaurant and had the fried chicken then saying something like "it wasn't bad...........but it wasn't finger licking good"
I believe the Cavett people put these clips out on RUclips to generate interest for licensing possibilities. We are lucky to be able to see them. I've been waiting for this show for years.

True. Jim Brown was one tough SOB, but he once got it into his head that he could beat Muhammad Ali in a boxing match. The two were friends, but he thought he could beat Ali. Ali invited Brown to have a go at him, just to make a point. Ali stood with his hands at his side and invited Brown to hit him in the face as hard as he could. Jim Brown threw punch after punch at Ali and couldn't land anything. Ali just kept his hands at his side while Jim just tired himself out. Then effortlessly, Ali hit Brown with about 10 quick shots in a few seconds. Again, not to hurt Brown, just to make a point. Brown shrugged and that was the end of that. Point made.

Governor Maddox was out of office by that time but he was still heavily talked about in the public. And I VIVIDLY remember the adults saying nothing but negative shit about the man. AND HE DIDN'T DO ANYMORE FOR BLACK PEOPLE THAN ANY OTHER POLITICIAN OF THAT ERA. The things he did do were mandatory and not out of the goodness of his heart. Plus he was a FLAMING racist! The only thing missing from his outfit on The Dick Cavett show was a white sheet with two eye holes in it. You are defending this guy like you were around in 1970 and actually knew about him and his politics. When in reality, you know nothing about this man other than what you've seen in this video.
