Bro its pretty much the same as whats going on now. Its scary how much we haven't learned as a people all this time. The governer is pretty much saying "ALL lives matter" and Jim Brown is saying "BLACK lives matter". That substantive conversation gets sidetracked by the governors own emotions and the baiting of the host. Jim Brown and the governor would eventually realize they were saying the same thing if they had actually finished that conversation. Same thing in principle as today. I support Trump because I can see his overall agenda which is the greater good of ALL of America, not any single parts of it. So does Jim Brown ironically, as he was in the White House with Kanye. But two things cause a problem in today's conversation: 1. the media that purposely misleads to keep people divided(same like this host dictated the audience's reaction in this video); and 2. Trumps own emotions at times, which is his greatest strength and weakness. Crazy.

One of the most striking aspects of the interview is that Maddox actually expected people to believe that blacks and whites in Georgia in 1970 lived and worked on a level playing field - unbelievable.
@@purepit4ever1200 I'm not sure if it was ever a genuine assumption or just a pathetic lie by Maddox to excuse segregation, and to somehow make it sound civilised. After all, no sane person would say that Black people have full equality with whites today, never mind in 1970!
@@Arthur_Pint today black people have LEGAL equality; however, full social equality is impossible since will always be racist people and as long as those people exist complete social equality will always be impossible. As for equality of opportunity, I think that's mainly dependent on location and your family and social status, but race can sometimes have to do with not having equality of opportunity. Equality of outcome shouldn't exist for anybody because the outcome should mainly be dependent on the person. In 1970, African-American 's in the South had no equality since 5 years prior they couldn't even eat in the same restaurant as a white person. And in the north, though it was closer to today, there where still issues pertaining to race. Glad that we've gotten as close to racial equality as we have, but socially there might be more to do.
@@joshuapittman4663 You make some very good points. Yes, the challenge now is for legal equality for black people to to translate to defacto equality in American society. Of course at the time of writing this comment, America is in the throws of a rigorous self-evaluation of Black equality in matters pertaining to policing, voting and other areas. That said, I would agree that overcoming those who hold racist attitudes (such the Maddoxs of this world) is still the greatest obstacle to full Black equality.
@S But... the people who supported him were against racial integration... that’s literally racist. The guy called anti-Jim Crow activists from the north bigots for trying to fight genuine discrimination. Is that not racist somehow?

@Francis York Projection much? I don't feel like a victim at all. I was just laughing at your comment because of what you implied in it. But I do see a lot of 1st world problem snowflakes whining about how they cant say the n word anymore like the world has ended. That's an actual victim complex. Maybe you have me confused with them? Also you're telling me that a guy who famously kicked black people out of his restaurant, closed his restaurant rather than accept pro-integration laws, and then ran for office as a segregationist... he isn't a bigot? I mean we're not even talking about a contemporary figure here. This is a guy who is long dead, and lived throughout the civil rights movement on the segregationist side. It's ok to admit that pro-segregationists are bigoted you know... That's not a "libtard" thing to say. That's just bipartisan common sense.
@Francis York I said do you have me confused with "them." As in... people who are not necessarily you. I was giving you an example of people who DO actually have a victim complex. You said I have a victim complex when I don't... I'm not even black. "Did you have any problems with the white bigots because you did so much for the black man?" The tactful strategic brilliance of that question is awe inspiring
Indeed. Notice how Maddox was stumped, and after Cavett "interpreted" the question, Maddox immediately attacked Cavett, and cowardly avoided Brown's question, acting like it was never asked and he was no longer sitting there next to him.
Having been born and raised in Georgia, by parents who had a Lester Maddox for President sign in their front yard in the late 1960s/ early 1970s, I've consciously resisted becoming Lester Maddox most of my life.

Actually no it isn't great . It's denying that he intentionally insulted those who supported Lester Maddox by calling them bigots. He won't admit that that is exactly what he intended. Cavett is a big liar and a phony; a little talentless man trying to be New York City cool.

But two things cause a problem in today's conversation:
1. the media that purposely misleads to keep people divided(same like this host dictated the audience's reaction in this video); and
2. Trumps own emotions at times, which is his greatest strength and weakness.
Crazy.

Delusion makes you believe silly things.
@@purepit4ever1200 I'm not sure if it was ever a genuine assumption or just a pathetic lie by Maddox to excuse segregation, and to somehow make it sound civilised. After all, no sane person would say that Black people have full equality with whites today, never mind in 1970!
Same denial they still have now that's stopping any change from coming through.

Truman Capote then muses that once he went to the restaurant and had the fried chicken then saying something like "it wasn't bad...........but it wasn't finger licking good"
I believe the Cavett people put these clips out on RUclips to generate interest for licensing possibilities. We are lucky to be able to see them. I've been waiting for this show for years.
If I remember right, Dick Cavett did get him back on a later show. And on that show, right after Maddox sat down, Cavett got up and walked out on him. Maddox then got up and asked the band to play a song, then he lead the audience in a sing-song. Cavett came back out, laughing his derriere off. Maddox had won that round.
TheBrabon1 Spot on. Cavett also never seemed to consider himself a celeb and wisely let his guests do most of the speaking because the audience wanted to hear from John & Yoko, Janis Joplin, Capote, etc. His real talent was drawing out the real person being interviewed, not their carefully crafted media persona.
3 against one, at least better than msnbc.

Dick is a Dick.
That Dick Cavett was quick thinking, quick witted, and quick talking. This was fascinating.
You should watch the interview with Enoch Powell. He agreed with Enoch Powell rather than making out he was the devil like some interviewers were at the time.
Cavett was a Genius at His Craft. Needed Today!
