My favorite, too; the first Bach I ever heard. I was 13 then. Now, I'm 78 and it still gives me the shivers. I've studied music, played clarinet in bands and sang in choirs. I still don't know why, of all Bach's output, this piece stands out as his most profound. Perhaps it's being in the presence of the peaceful joy I so need. What about you?
@@markharder3676 I have known the melody for a very long time. In 1969 my high school choir participated in an international choir fest in Freiburg, Germany. Our group had people from Germany, France, Switzerland, and us, the kids from Minnesota, USA. We rehearsed a Bach piece, Psalm 130 morning, noon, and night for a week. The performance was Saturday night. Our Wednesday morning sight read/ warmup piece was Jesus Bleibet Meine Freude. What a beautiful tribute and prayer to our Lord and Savior! I even asked our director (in German)if we could sing it again. He responded,”Nein, night Heute. Wir haben keine Zeit.” No, not today. We don’t have the time. Every opportunity I have had since then I offer that piece vocally. Music is timeless. Guten Tag!
The beauty and brilliance of this performance is beyond words.. Sometimes composers and musicians are able to touch the face of God. It happens in this performance. Thank you Arthur and Lucas. Moved to tears
Me encanta como disfrutan de la música...como viven sienten lo que hacen...son mis ídolos Lucas y Arthur ...soy profesora de piano amo con pasión esta profesión...todo los días los escucho...realmente bella melodía...
Stunning playing by two stunning young men. Some have commented on their head movements, but I think it explains their incredible ensemble, or together, playing - it's their way of non-verbal communication to one another. Brilliant.
You know, this was one of my omis favorite pieces by J.S. Bach. When I was little kid, she would play “Baby Einstein” and this is the first ever musical piece I can remember. It was also the first song played at her funeral. I became the best snare drummer in the state of Nebraska. So if my omi never showed me this piece, I likely wouldn’t be where I am today. So I must say thank you to my omi, and I hope I can see you again. ❤️ (Sigrun Barbra Pfister 07/22/1943-05/27/2022)

Beautiful transcription. Bach's music is, definitely, the heart made music. And you two, the perfect instrument for it. You make those pianos sing. Bravi!!!
This interpretation was more percussive /emphatic than ones I had heard growing up. A masterpiece incorporated into the classical canon will offer us many superb performances, but sometimes one becomes anchored in the joy of our desire. De gustibus...

This is one of my favorite pieces! A fantastic transcription. Only the tempo is for me a little bit too fast. I prefer the tempo that Alan Goldstein chose. But this is very heart opening too!
To reply to previous post from Deutsche Grammophon : this one ('Jesus bleibet meine Freude') is my favorite cantata. Why ? Bach was the 'Meister' of complex constructions (much has been written about the mathematical structure of his chords and his elaborate melodic themes). With this refined methods and his out of ordinary ability on keyboards (Organ / Clavier) he obtained the musical and phychological effects we all love. But in 'Jesus bleibet meine Freude' Bach strips himself of all artificial effects and goes 'naked' from a musical point of view. No polished harmonies, no sophisticated structures, no complex orchestrations, no 'Basso Continuo', Just pure music, a linear melody and a bunch of voices playing a simple fugue. All based on the Golden Ratio and the PI numbers. This is all. Everybody - old or young, good or bad - loves this piece. It's like almost possible ... to be composed by anyone, isn't it ? Well ... is happens that God chose Johann Sebastian Bach - and only him - to sort it out.

My favorite Bach piece. I have performed this piece, solo, multiple times, in German. That’s the way Bach wrote it.
