If fans of any sports team in the UK used the "I believe that we will win" chant you could guarantee the oppositions fans will chant back, "I believe you're talking shit".

The fact they were chanting 'the referees a wanker' outside of the game just shows how fucking sheepish those people are.
They saw british people chanting that.. most likely during a game... directed at a a ref doing poorly n thought 'Im going to do that at our game!' except... they did it outside of the ground.. with no ref..

    • @Kazza_8240
      @Kazza_8240 2 года назад +2

Do they find out who the ref will be beforehand though? I remember over 2 decades ago, when Celtic and Rangers were playing (Scottish teams) and there used to be a ref who was blatantly biased towards rangers, Hugh Dallas. Maybe they found out who the ref would be for that match and didn't want a biased guy 🤷🏼‍♀️
In 1999 Hugh Dallas sent off 3 Celtic players, which resulted in fans invading the pitch, him being hit on the head with a thrown coin, and a brick thrown through the window of his home.
Bigotry is still alive and well here, and not just amongst fans, it's sad, religion and history should have NOTHING to do with a GAME, in my opinion.

"How do these chants get started?" - Much of it is down to the pub culture in the UK. Before & after the games huge packs of fans will congregate in pubs - they are literally packed full with nowhere to sit - and there is a long history of singing in pubs (although these days it is pretty much only when a match is being played or there's a karaoke night). Then you'll get some loud mouth with a smaller group start singing a song, the group joins in, then the pub full of drunk fans and then, when it gets to the stadium, you get tens of thousands of fans joining in. Many of the songs are based on specific chants or well known pop songs too, so they're easy to pick up even with the words being changed around here and there. There was also the incidence where a RUclipsr (I think he was a RUclipsr) started a chant, and it has become 1 ofd the best known chants around. He just started singing "Will Grigg's on fire! Your defence is terrified!" repeatedly to the tune of "Freed from Desire" by GALA. The track was reasonably well known but not by any means massive, but there was something about the fact that this solo guy who supported Wigan (a smaller English club now in the lower Leagues) rearranging the lyrics to fit so nicely about a Wigan striker who nobody really knew. He sang it so passionately too and, sorry mate wherever you are, he sung it so badly that it just began to catch on. So much is about timing as well - although the song massively exaggerated the fact any defence would be "terrified" of Will Grigg (a striker who nobody outside of Wigan really knew anything about), Grigg was actually on good form and scoring a few goals, getting him a call up for Northern Ireland for the 2016 UEFA Championship. Northern Ireland is a VERY small country and it was the 1st time they had ever qualified for the competition. I don't think Will Grigg even started a game for them, but it just so happened that earlier in the season this 1 RUclipsr Wigan fan had made a song for him and so, of course, EVERYBODY started to sing it at the competition. It doesn't happen very often, ever really, but with a combination of things coming together a RUclipsr making a bit of a fool of himself on camera created 1 of the biggest chants in world football. Nowadays many, many teams have a striker who is "on fire" and has defences "terrified" 😂😂

Not meaning to be condescending JT, but it's clear to me that some of the American fans are desperately trying to copy the British chants, but trying to put their own slant/angle on it. It's not far away, but they need to add some humour into them too. Do American games have away supporters? That is what creates the banter and atmosphere when two sets of fans are launching tirades of abuse at each other. One thing to remember about British fans - they are brutal, cruel, and barring racist chants (which is very rare and rightly frowned upon) there is no level they won't go to to insult the other team and their supporters. I've supported Birmingham City for years, been up and down the UK with them. Now and again, there would be a particular fan of the other team (usually a fat guy, or someone wearing outrageous clothes, thinking they look good) who would be cruelly targeted, singled out, and abused throughout the game with all kinds of chants. But, as harsh as it sounds, it's all taken in good humour, no offence is taken because, well, that's just the way it is. 🤣🤣

Some context for some of these songs.
The BBQ song is actually an English song called Vinderloo by Fat Les it's from the 1998 world cup. We still sing this every major tournament along with Three Lions.
The chicken is dead chant is in response to Kevin Nolans wing flap goal celebration.
The Adebayor chant is racist and is implying his dad washes elephants because he is African. This along with the Park Ji Sung chant about eating dogs as much as they are humourous they are racist.
John Terry slipped when taking his penalty in the 2008 Champions League Final. Had he scored they would have won the title but they went on to lose.
The "are you a man or a woman," "Caroll show us your tits" & "Get your tits out for the lads" are directed at Andy Caroll because he has long hair in a ponytail.
The "Kiddy Family" chant I think is directed at people from Kidderminster being inbred.
My favourite of them all is the Steve Gerrard chant. Gerrard was with Liverpool from childhood and then professionally from 1998 - 2015
Despite having chances to leave for better clubs and have a better chance of winning the premier league, he stuck with his childhood club. He was for the majority of his career their best player and captain and dragged them up. He is a legend to Liverpool fans. In 2014 Liverpool were in with a shout of winning the Premier League. It was the business end of the season and they were favourites. After beating Man City in a massive game he was seen saying to his teammates in a huddle "We do not let this slip" Two weeks later in a game against Chelsea the ball is passed to Gerrard and he slips over. The ball goes to Demba Ba and he is through on goal as scores. Chelsea would go on to win the game 2-0 and Liverpool would 3 games later finish the premier league 2 points of the top. Gerrard never got the chance to win the Premier League and Liverpool would go on to win it without him 5 years after he left. That chant will be around for some time.

Its not though,it is a boring 3 word chant about a geriatric senile gentleman.
We would have probably gone with.
      There's only one joe biden
      A packet of sweets
      A cheeky smile
Biden is a fucking pea do file.

The Barbecue chant is a swipe of Fat Les Vindaloo - which is based on British chants..

that Barbecue chant comes from a British song called "Vindaloo" by Fat Les........it made the charts in the UK, and features a great video! And being British means we're modest because the actual words of the song are "We're gonna score ONE more than You!!"... it has a very catchy(and repetitive) chorus that goes....." Na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na, na na....well, you'll soon get the idea!!!'

You need to react to Liverpool FC singing You’ll never walk alone, especially against Barcelona 2019, or against Bayern Munich 2019

As a south londoner i feel no matter how much we explain these chants, no American will truly understand why we chant them. Some are Abhorrent but inside a stadium its a free for all, surely wouldn't call anyone an elephant man on the street.

“I believe that we will win” must be the American version of “the three lions” it’s coming home, it’s coming home, it’s coming, football’s coming home.
