The weird thing about football chants, is that when people first started using them, and then people started copying, those people would mimic the sound of a whole crowd. So now, if you listen to one guy singing one, he's mimicking the sound of a whole crowd. Then the people who picked it up from those people, were mimicing the sound of a crowd of individuals who were each mimicing the sound of a crowd. So, over the years, the sound has changed drastically, and now there's a completely different sound that comes out of people during football chants. It's usually a full octave below their natural voice, too

I absolutely love seeing your reaction to things. As an English native we just see this as normal. In England football is an institution and it's basically tribal. It goes beyond a sport; it's a way of life. It's a religion. And chants like that are akin to hymns in church. It's very bizarre but that's the way it's always been. I can see how frightening it is to a person who isn't from the UK but football hooliganism has always been something we've become accustomed to here. We're just very passionate I guess LOL

JT, I promise you were not all like this, mad as a box of frogs. They’ve obviously been drinking and are definitely drunk, but they’re enjoying themselves and not harming anyone and as long as that carries on then. I for one do not object to it, it’s funny.

Some of them are common and are just sung at them all or a lot of matches, but a lot of the time it's just one drunk person yelling it and the other drunks joining in lol

And also how does everyone immediately seem to know exactly what the words and tunes are? Some of these were improvised yet still got the whole crowd chanting.

Ah I love JT man he’s super honest about his opinions and genuinely interesting in learning about a different culture that historically just tends to either take the piss out of each other, fall out or just have no agreements. Welcome here anytime pal!

When covid gets gone, we'd love you to visit. I love being a Brit but am not always proud of us. But this football chanting is so funny & pretty inventive too. Hysterically funny. I've never been to a match either so lets get a group of your UK followers and go!😁😁🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧💕🤣

I used to live next to the Vale ground which is on a residential road and had to walk past one day right after a match. It was kicking off. Riot vans everywhere, brawling on the street. I was just trying to get through the crowds to get home and got punched in the face by a badly aimed fist. It was actually a group of Vale fans who then helped me to get through the crowd and back home. They were completely shit faced but brilliant. It’s all part and parcel of British football.

Loving your videos JT. All I would say is that, albeit brutal, all of these chants are done in good humour. I'm 41 and British football culture, it has always been the same, especially down the lower leagues where the fans are working class, and the big money hasn't ruined it.

Don't forget our seasonal chants that we pull out from bonfire night through til Christmas 😅
An yeah when games are shit the crowd make their own fun, recently recall one game where an entire stand was throwing paper planes trying to get them onto the pitch; was the biggest celebration of the game when one did.
