    "Myriam, with a Y," you are a pure delight!!! I adore the mad scientist in you that doesn't write off unexpected results rather your mind goes into overdrive trying to find a way to encourage those results into something beautiful! You're a master at what you do and a real gem for sharing your passion, your inquisitive mind and the random experiments that go on in your "Lab". LOL Stay safe, stay sane, and stay lovely! :)

When you did that blue dye, it was the weirdest thing I've seen lately. Your laugh is contagious and I don't mind. It's really fun to watch you. Thank you so very much Cynthia! When I’m editing, it embarrasses me a little bit how much I laugh in a video ... sometimes I feel the need to edit some of the laughs out because they just pop out of me without my even being aware of them. 😁
      The blue dye was like a weird little magic trick to me… I will have fun continuing to experiment with that for sure.
      Thanks again for your kindness!

    HI Myriam, It was funny watching the colors change, which by the way I think they came out really pretty. The circle one kind of reminds me of the rock painting. You most likely do have a lab in your studio. LOL. I would love to see more experiments on the making of your alcohol inks. So I hope you show us when you get the 99 percent alcohol and maybe on a small canvas board, as it might show up on the paper differencely. Thank you so much for all that you do, you are very entertaining and I always learn a lot from you

    Very interesting experiment! I'd love to see a video on coloring resin with those dyes. I'm sure they will work fantastic for that as a lot of commercially available resin colorants are dye based. Yes, my first alcohol inks were made from butchered Sharpie pens. They work fantastic but you need to use several pens if you want really vibrant deep colors. It's much easier and cheaper to buy the inks in an art supply store.

    Great video and intriguing results. If you add the Claro Extender with the alcohol when you dissolve the dye (or use only claro extender), you will get the brilliant color upon drying. You need the resin to keep the dye dispersed after your alcohol is gone. Give it a try?

    Great experimental video, thanks! I was so glad near the end of your video, when you tried the blue without blowing it around, because as I was watching I had a feeling it was the blowing that was changing the color- and you confirmed my suspicions! The dotted design is my favorite- not sure why, but it just strikes me more!

    Actually I have thought about making my own alcohol ink . . . thanks for the tutorial! ( I adore you and this is the first time I've posted.) I'm thrilled you aren't murdering sharpies to make alcohol inks, such a mess and such a desecration. I am also thinking about dying fabrics with alcohol inks, but this Jacquard Basic Dye, when you read the label, stated it can be used on fabric, I'm stoked! No fabric is safe in my house.

    • @MyriamsNature
      @MyriamsNature  5 лет назад +1

      I love that last sentence Archa... I’m the same way about anything that can be painted 😁💕! Alcohol inks on fabrics look beautiful! The one thing to keep in mind is that the inks (and the dyes) are not super lightfast so prolonged exposure to sun could alter or fade the colors.

    I love your adventurous exploration!! DO believe there's a true scientist in the Muse. Since I have the same nature - with more 'scientist' and less creative skill, my instinct would be to measure how many Grams, or fractions of a teaspoonful of powdered dye to maybe 2 oz alcohol gives you what intensity of color. Reproducibility,you know. Love Michelle Adam's idea of adding the 'dregs' to clear polymer clay. I can't bear to tear apart a Sharpie, either! We love you namaste

    Hi Myriam! You mentioned the importance of turning as you push the color and I wonder if you have a favorite turntable for this? Most of the ones I see have a lip around the outside edge which doesn’t seem like the best idea to keep the duralar flat. Thank you for these videos!

    • @MyriamsNature
      @MyriamsNature  4 года назад

      Hi Paula! First of all thank you so very much for your kind support of my channel!! Many lazy susans have lips and can be annoying for some things, but helpful for others (like keeping things from rolling away). The lip feels less obtrusive when using a bigger lazy susan than a smaller one. The turntables least likely to have lips are cake turntables (for help frosting cakes). The one I use is 11” in diameter. I purchased it in the baking section of JoAnn... it was $11 at the time but I had a 50% off coupon so was able to get it for under $6 including tax. I eventually got a 14” round glass table top for it to give me a larger surface area and make it very easy to clean. When looking for one, avoid any that are too tall (e.g. some are 3” tall, or taller) ... the shorter it is, the better for comfort of use. One that is around 1 to 1.5 “ is ideal. I hope that helps a bit. 😊💕

    I have to confess I'm a serial killer of sharpies......and when I went thru my first pack I confess I got another......but Judge me not, I was a desperate woman for alcohol inks at the time, I'm wondering if those granular bits left in this dye is not for texture or if they release a substance that will "set" the dye..... maybe the only thing that will dissolve them IS the denature alcohol, in any case, I really enjoyed the joy you have when creating....thank you!

    Very interesting - thank you. BTW, I do love the fact that you do your nails and they look so pretty and at the same time 'normal' compared to what some do, but I have seen videos where the women have their hands and fingers in the scenes almost constantly and their hands and nails look they just came in from picking potatoes! Especially on cooking videos that is a HUGE turn off. All this painting stuff is new to me, but I am learning a lot from you. Thanks again!

    I am new to alcohol inks, but I have been dying fabric for a very long time. I have some basic dye that I am experimenting with to see if I can create my own alcohol inks. The results on glass and plexiglass are very vibrant. I am working on the ratio of dye to alcohol and then how much they can be diluted and still retain their color. If I am successful and I am allowed to join the face book group, I will post my results for viewing. Hope to be able to share the results with you soon.

    *Blushes* Myriam, I haven't done it yet but I have brought a supply of Sharpies and some 99% alcohol to make my own batch of alcohol inks. I am going to finish painting my house and getting all my rooms organized then I am going to make those inks plus after watching this video I think I may invest in some of those Basic dyes from Jacquard. I have some of their Procion MX Dyes and am now wondering whether I could use some of that to make alcohol ink. Love your work and can't wait until I finish this house so that I can experiment.

    Wowza, so many awesome nuggets of creativity here!!
    I feel a little out of place asking my question, but I did notice your nails are beautifully manicured (super cute accent nail on the thumb, btw) so I'm hoping you won't be too put off by me asking:
    what can you tell me about alcohol inks for nail art?
    I know there are plenty of products marketed by nail companies, but I feel like they are unnecessarily high priced & that I should be able to find more reasonable options either as DIY or just via different/non-nail sources. Thoughts???
    Thanks so much!!😄

    Love me some experimenting of this sort. I have murdered many sharpies and made lots of my own inks, which have somehow evaporated down on their own. This doesn't bother me, as they're just more concentrated. I do try to keep the containers water-tight. I'm thinking that if you strain your dyes through a bit of cheesecloth, you can eliminate the grains, if that's the look you're after. And now I'm wondering about the old Rit dyes...hmmmm....Thanks, Myriam!

I HAVE made deeper colors by adding more of the powdered dye... and, after chatting with the head of Jacquard, I found out that using denatured alcohol gives even better results (dissolves the dye better). Piñata’s Clean Up Solution is denatured alcohol by the way 😊. For binding power, add Claro Extender or Blending Solution to the resulting ink. Mixing your own colors is fun too! Happy inking!!

    God I love u Myriam!! Ur awesome! I woke up in pain (as usual) and grumpy. So I said to myself “ watch one of Myriam’s videos, she’ll make u laugh!!” And u did!!!😂🤣😂 Thank u so much for experimenting and creating such amazing things! My cousin Maryann Anderson and myself love all that u do in ur LAB/ studio! Lol! I was also wondering about India inks as well? Someone else mentioned this in ur comments? I have the hydrus or radiant inks, can’t remember which one? Lol! I also wanted to mention that I bought a set of 50 of those little bottles from AliExpress, they look exactly like urs, but I paid somewhere around $10-13 for them. I love this APP/ website. It’s kinda like WISH/Amazon kinda sorta! Thanks you again for inspiring so many of us and always putting a smile on our faces!! It’s so true...ur laugh is totally contagious!!!! Hi Elizabeth! I am so so sorry but pain is part of your mornings… That cannot be fun at all. I am simply delighted that my videos can help a tiny bit. Comments like that make this channel all the more worthwhile for me and encourage me to keep working hard. My hope and goal is to have this be what I do full-time.
      I have combined India ink’s with alcohol when making fractals ( ruclips.net/video/hZy4kGqoJq8/видео.html ) … But I’ve never used them as an alcohol ink. I honestly do not know how that would work… But if you have them I think it is definitely worth a try! 😄
      Thank you for your kind, kind words… They truly added to my night! Please say hi and send a hug to MaryAnn for me as well! 😘💕🤗🤗

      Myriam's Nature THANK YOU!!! My cousin and I love u! When I do get out to Michael’s or any other errands I do, if I run into people that are buying art supplies, I always tell them about u! U make art look so much fun! I’m so critical about my work, I drive myself crazy!! I wish u and Sharon could come to Cape Cod, (stay with me, if u’d like) and we could try to get a big art weekend! We could advertise, there’s tons of artistic people on the Cape, but I don’t here of many good craft weekend getaways?! I wish u’d think about it. OR... we could do something where it’s warm and tropical!! Lol!😊❤️🌴☀️

    Maybe the grains are from not heating the liquid to dissolve them first. If that is the case, the grains may dissolve over time if a little more alcohol was added and covered so not to evaporate. Just a thought. I was worried about your pretty nails when you used the clean-up solution but they didn't seem to mind. Enjoyed todays' great experiment from your lab!

    Scotch Magic tape is the best for sealing off alcohol ink - on pretty much any surface. You get a beautifully crisp line - and it's worth the extra pennies imo. Saves you time and heartache over a lovely piece of work... Probs cheaper in long run than using clean-up, perhaps? 😘

    Thank you! Yes I did murder some sharpies, it didn’t turn out well. It was very messy to get those fiber insides out. Then cut them, I permanently ruined a pair of scissors. In the end, I don’t know if it was me, but they just weren’t that vibrant to me. I tried them on tiles, they did okay, but not like true alcohol inks are. I’m looking forward to getting some of these dyes. I can think of a hundred things I could use those on. Thank you for testing these, fabulous video. Myriam your the best 💕

      Thank you so so much! I never tried the Sharpie way myself ... it always looked messy and less than fun in all the videos I saw. I understood the appeal of making one’s own inks but hoped there was a better way.
      I hope you will have loads of fun creating your colorful pieces! 😊💕

      Myriam's Nature I already have the dyes in my cart. You are such an inspiration, I’ve learned so much from your videos. I ran across your videos researching the fluid art, I’m hooked! I just received my 60 colors of Arteza paints, I’ve got the piñata alcohol inks coming soon. I’m a mad scientist artist too. I try all kinds of experiments. I’ve even dipped off into the acid arts (electroplating) and torch arts. I’m surprised my workshop is still standing 😂. I’m the only person I know that gets packages with warning labels. Thank you for all the great informative videos. I get excited every time I get a notification for a new Myriam video. I say okay Myriam with a Y, what are we doing today? 💕

      I love this!! A kindred spirit for sure! It sounds as if there’s a LOT of colorful fun in your future!! So many goodies! And luckily, they all sound relatively safe.
      I’m always amazed my insurance company is still willing to insure my house given all the stuff I do in the “lab”. I’m an artisan jeweler so torching, acid etching and kiln firing are my “danger danger Will Robinson” moments. Pouring paint and dropping alcohol ink drops is waaaaay safer 🤣😂.
      Thanks for the fun comments! They make the channel all the more awesome to have. 😊💕

      Myriam's Nature Oh yes, I’ve been burned and cut so many times i think I’ve become immune to the pain. I’m like hand me a bandaid I’ve got work to do 😂. I work with glass also, I have to dust the glass slivers out of my hair sometimes. Oh the acid etching is the bomb, I’ve only done that a couple times. But I love to do metal sculpture from all kinds of stuff. I made a teapot apartment not too long ago. It had a glass galaxy roof with a rooftop garden. I’m basically not afraid to do anything, not a power tool I can’t use. Thanks again for the great videos! 💕💐🙏🌈

    You've potentially saved me a ton of money as I already have dye powders (Procion MX) that I used to make all sorts of interesting coloured fabric, and isopropyl alcohol. So maybe all I need to do is get some Claro extender and I'll have my own alcohol inks for glass 😊

    Hello there it's seems to change colour after you blew it with the gun. So my question to you is, does the gun throw out cool or hot or warm air? If warm it maybe the reason it darken each colour. Got an idea for ya, in water colours you can use salt, for z special effects, so try to sprinkle salt and see what effect you get. I think it would be worth the try. Hmmmm Thanks fun to watch, very cool.......

    I was checking out some of your Amazon links. I would love to do a few resin pieces and hope to do so after Christmas. Dang SSI cut my monthly income from a whopping $750 a month to $500!!! Because my rent is more than my income and I have to get help from my mother, they count that as extra income! It doesn't make sense. Anyway, I'm being called to supper and will finish later. Have a great evening. 💖💖💖

    I'm wondering if the heat is possibly making the color change. I am assuming that heat is being used. I just came across your video looking for ways to dye and / or paint mosquito netting for a canopy over my granddaughters bed. As I was writing this comment, you discovered what the issue is. Lol, I guess I should watch the entire video before commenting. I've been watching and reading so much, and now I have too many ideas. I don't know where to start. 😂🎉

  • @rufus1931

    Fascinating! I was so puzzled and intrigued about the color shift, I liked the colors you were getting but WHY were you getting them. Thanks for continuing to experiment to get to at least some of the answer....was also wondering if perhaps it was heat related? No, Your Honor, I have NEVER murdered a Sharpie in my life! But have tried to create some alcohol inks using dye ink re-inkers among other things. It's hard to get enough concentrated color. But I've got some powdered dye for dying fabric for rug hooking....hmmmmm....also have some Brusho powders.........hmmmmmm I see a play day coming up!

    • @MyriamsNature
      @MyriamsNature  6 лет назад

      I honestly think the color shift was due to a low concentration of the dye but there’s more testing to be done for sure. It does sound like there’s a lot of fun experimenting about to happen in YOUR lab too!
      Definitely let me know if you get some fun results.
      I have never tried Brusho and I am definitely curious about that! I love the effects you can get with water so I imagine, since alcohol is a liquid, it should activate the Brushos too???

    When you started the actual trials and the blue changed to light purply, the yellow added ran into the purple and made green because the purple was really blue. Would the blue stay blue if it wasn't heat-treated by the dryer? Heat changes colour - as you know - and it's the same with wet-in-wet silk dyes. Sprinkling salt crystals on the wet silk (wet with dye) is interesting. Bet it would work with these too.

    • @MyriamsNature
      @MyriamsNature  5 лет назад

      Hi Zena! The heat had no impact in the color actually... the reason for the color change was the fact that I mixed a small amount of dye in the alcohol. Someone at Jacquard wrote to me to confirm the guess I’d made at the end of the video. Had I used more dye the color would have been “true”.
      The salt idea does sound like a super fun experiment... I have totally jotted that down 😁💕!
