Beautiful. I've been making my own alcohol inks for a few years. Dollar Tree sells alcohol markers (just like sharpies) in a package of 8 for $1. I get 2 packs and double the amount of ink to intensify. Less alcohol helps the color get richer. I let them sit overnight. It's pretty easy to take out the nib (writing part) and cartridge with some hemostats. I always squeeze the rest out to make sure and get it all. Sometimes I do them in a small shallow dish (covered) and after they are done, I use a small funnel and pour them into similar bottles like you have. I even mix colors to try and get different colors. Love your channel.
I just did the same thing today. I used two packs of markers per jar, and I took the tip of the marker and used that to. There is so much ink in the tip part, I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else doing that.
Not sure where you get your bottles, but I buy mine at the local vape shops, in any size you want. They will sell them new empties. My 2 ounce bottles were like 50 cents each.
I make my own. I don’t put my “ink” into the dropper bottles until it’s completely made. I put the 91-99% isopropyl alcohol and marker cartridge in a plastic soufflé cup first. You can get them on amazon. I let mine sit overnight. When you’re ready, then you can use the funnel to pour the completed ink into the dropper bottles. Also, it takes a little bit of tweaking to find the right ratio of alcohol per color for the right color saturation. The higher the alcohol content (I.e. 99%) the better the inks will work as well.
Yes:) im gonna try it myself, I was wondering about the concentration of ink to alcohol and now im gonna try hilighter ink too...I love glow in the dark myself, and practising is so much fun
I want to say I started out with 30ml of alcohol, and found that I wanted the concentration of the pigments to be bolder. I’m using about 20ml of alcohol now. When using highlighters, bear in mind, the color of the highlighter doesn’t always translate to the color of the ink. For instance, purple highlighter makes pink ink.
It's a bummer that you don't get white sharpie, as that's often the most expensive alcohol ink! Cool knowing about the highlighters, as I've been wondering about those. I cut the plastic covering off mine, it made sense to do so.
I think your success would have been even better if you used 99% alcohol. You can't find it in stores but you can get it from Amazon. I think the colors would have dripped a bit more for you.. You can also get deeper/darker colors by using 2 or 3 markers per bottle. #ProTip do not leave the cotton in the bottle to long or they begin to break down and put chunks into your projects. lol Use throw away cups to soak and then put into bottles once the cotton is white. Thank you so much for sharing with us..I always enjoy your experiments...
Also a lot of Alcohol inks use a mix of Isopropyl Alcohol and glycerine as a blending agent which increases the brightness and allows more saturation. Also as you say the ratio of alcohol to pigment needs to be more weighted towards the pigment
I love making my own-especially mixing two different color sharpies for a custom color. Even doing a metallic with a solid-they turn out stunning. Love your videos, by the way! Keep up the wonderful content!

I liked how they turned out, but that's my opinion. They are not pastels, they are just extremely watered down. Try using mason jars with multiples of each color, use only enough alcohol to cover them, keep them in the jars until the felt is completely drained of ink, and keep adding more marker felts and alcohol. You will be making a very concentrated ink that can be used as is in tiny doses or watered down with more alcohol.
i think the actual white alcohol ink might be denser than the rubbing alcohol/sharpie. Maybe the alcohol used is different than rubbing alcohol? Either way while not the intended effect it's certianly pretty! There's a lot of neat things u can do with markers and rubbing alcohol. can u make alcohol inks by mixing powder pigments with alcohol? just maybe do the pigments with a lil bit of alcohol until powder dissolves, then add more alcohol. idk
Well, you can mix eyeshadow powder into resin to colour it, but would adding it straight to alcohol make the alcohol act like bleach, maybe? I gotta try that next pay day.

Pigments aren’t really gonna “truly” dissolve in alcohol or resin. In resin, pigments color it fully (meaning it’s gonna pretty much be opaque from the start with the pigments fully mixed in), alcohol inks make resin more transparent, acting closer to a tint (in order to get them opaque like with pigments you’d have to use more ink, or use an alcohol ink that can help to gather the color and make it sink (like the white ink Heather used)). Powders are still really good to use, but they’re not gonna get the same effect as inks are made up of dyes and not powders.
That pastel block @13:47 is gorgeous. I can see figures, even. The one on the left reminds me of a mother holding a child and the one in the right looks like a head and upper body.
For a stronger dye that might be easy to get, try wood strainers, the concentrated little bottle stuff that you usually mix with water. I just made these this morning 👍 So glad to see they worked well. As for them being light colors, I was afraid of that so I put 2 of the same colored markers in 1 bottle to try to get a more pigmented color. I will be trying it tomorrow, I want to let it sit overnight 😊👍
You can also use the liquid printer inks to add to alcohol. Also, if you make any alcohol ink with pigment, you can add a BB from a BB gun in the bottle. When you shake up the bottle, the BB helps mix the ink. Like how spray paint cans are made with the marble in them to mix up the paint.
I do this to make my alcohol ink for nail art. The more markers you put in each bottle, the more pigmented your ink will be. So I usually use 3 pink markers per bottle, etc. And the metallic markers are so so cool! Love you and your videos!
The timing of this post is kinda funny. I started doing this with a 24 pack of sharpies a while ago and just finished up yesterday. I started with leaving the color filters in the bottles. I changed my mind after the first 2 and decided to let mine sit in plastic cups covered in cling wrap overnight, then pour them through a little funnel into the bottles and toss the filters. It was great to see in your video if they'd work in resin. Thanks for sharing!
I love that round one so much. I was just making alcohol inks this morning so for a more intense color try RIT for your ink. Or if you want more variety for your money I ordered a tye dye set off amazon. Good luck
Hi Artsy I live in Puerto Rico and it is very difficult to get many craft item to do different crafts like I am trying now to do jewelry resin and I wanted to ask you if I could use in the resin pearl ex powdered pigments to color the items by the way I think you are great and a good teacher
You can play around. More alcohol will make weaker colours unless you add more ink. Less alcohol may give you deeper colours, but you just have to try different levels of alcohol vs ink.
Via some prompting from Peter browns set of videos on trying alternative colors, I use food color and highlighters to color my pieces. It dosent do the drippy thing but it makes me happy not to have to buy super expensive colors, and the food color is transparent so any glitter or imbeds still show up nice. Also, I went to the link you posted on a previous video about the resin you use and they just, weren't selling it. A little sad, I wanted to see if I liked it better then what I was using. Your cube looks lovely
I double my markers and use a 91 percent or higher alcohol. The metallic markers work too but you have to shake while using them. Wish I could post a few pics of some things I did with them.
I make mine in portion cups(like jello.shot cups w lids) and I add the ink from 2 sharpies for more saturated colors. Leave over night. U can also get opal powders or even cheap eywshadow pots from dollar store and add. Then u get pearl inks.(just make sure u shake them well before use of course) Then I pour into my dropper bottles.
All of these are so cool!! I especially love the cube. I was curious to see if the white would sink to the bottom and it looks like it did with all of the round ones. But the brilliant colors in the big circular one are spectacular. Fun experiment!!
Also, for richer color, use 2 sharpie for each color. Shake every so often, let sit at least 12 hours for color to bleach out of pad. Hope this helps. I searched and watched several videos about making this ink. Just wonder how will work with epoxy resin and uv resin?
Where I live inexpensive alcohol markers made for art are cheaper than sharpies. I've heard people say that there's some additive/filler in sharpies, that isn't in other markers. Considering this, I wonder if this would work with artists alcohol markers. (I honestly have no idea if the filler/additive thing is true, or even believable, as I've never used sharpies.)
Most markers still use additives, just different additives that normally help the inks blend more. That said it shouldn’t be too much to have any particular issues (unless the markers are just so incredibly poor quality filled with fillers and end up keeping the resin from curing).
I was wondering if you used half the alcohol if the colors might be darker too....but, I too was totally shocked this worked and worked so very well.... awesome video... I am gonna try it now!
Me too.. Pretty as your things usually are, I personally would love to be able to actually see the differences between the colors and how transparent they are. No offence, sincerely, but am tired of soooooo many colors and all mixed together and almost always with tons of white. Love what you do, how you present it, your curiosity, etc, etc .... just sometimes think 'less is more'. :)
It looks like the White is heavier than usual.but maybe these inks are lighter in weight than the other inks you use.The Sharpies probably need to be left for a couple days. I would love to see a few more without the White.
You could probably use two sharpies in one bottle to deepen the color, or do two batches with less alcohol per batch then mix them together just to make it more saturated. I think the white is a little to heavy for the homemade inks. Yours turned out way better than when I tried it!
Can you try using eye shadow as a pigment! I saw someone mention it in a comment on Facebook once never saw the outcome! I think they where using it to like "paint" a mold before pouring resin
I use cheap eye shadow for my 2 part epoxy resin jewelry. For my UV resin I only use a tiny bit or it doesn't like to cure all the way. Or I do it in small pours at a time. Hope that helps. But experiment with different shadows and amounts to get the look you like.
Awesome thank you! Im brand new to resin only just got my first bottles in the mail the other day! I have a heap of old eyeshadows that I no longer use on myself. Wanted to find another way of using them
Great video. Just something to be aware of....Sharpies ARE alcohol ink based... so really you are just diluting the alcohol ink already inside the markers.....thats why it was lighter. :)
I agree 95% alchohol and use less will make colors brighter...I love your hair❣I had to go back cause what your hair color changed...You are fun to watch and very pretty...I use these inks for my nails...Thanks for sharing your art!!!💖
The big circle is beautiful! How about trying to mix the white directly in the bottles with the colors (as you did in your other video)? Wouldn't you'll get rid of the white dots? 🤔
Wonder what would happen if you used other types of pigments in alcohol, like gel food color, crushed watercolor tablets, India inks, mice powders, dry pigments like charcoal, etc.
New subscriber! Your video of you trying pictures in resin popped up on my feed and I'm OBSESSED with all your stuff. I'm def going to have to try this alcohol ink trick.
I use acrylic paint to colour my resin sometimes. Beware, it will make the resin set faster/heat up. It’s not something you should do all the time (as an example, I ran out of white alcohol ink so I grabbed some white acrylic paint) it worked okay but the resin got incredibly hot
I have a newbie question. I'm in the process of ordering all of the materials to begin my resin adventure, after researching brands and purposes of everything of course- so excited! Your videos have helped me SO much. My question has to do with dropping the white alcohol ink on the colors. I know it makes the colors sink deeper (please correct me if I'm wrong!), but is it just the same white alcohol ink that's in color bundles? I bought a pack of colors that came with white, so is that what I would use? Or does it need to be a certain brand/something different entirely? Also, alcohol blending solution, what's the purpose? I can't find reliable descriptions of it's use. Thanks in advance anyone!
I know I’m late, but in my experience only specific brands of alcohol ink will do what you’re describing, I think I’ve seen the effect gotten when the artist has used “resin ink?” (Technically it’s still just alcohol ink, but since it’s specifically for resin maybe that’s why the formula accomplishes it?) You can see Nerdecrafter’s video on instagram art hacks (I believe the video I’m referencing has a rainbow thumbnail?) the white alcohol ink she used didn’t even cure and didn’t give the same effect shown in her reference.
Was the white an alcohol ink? I never seen white before. I am new at this. I am asking so I can look it up on how to get some. I got cheap inks on line but no white. So a brand or what exactly it is would really help me. Thank you in advance for any help.
I waa going to use my markers from dollar tree. And get my bottles from there too if they arent out. But do you know where to get a tiny funnel? I have seen this done many times but I enjoy seeing it again
In other videos I watched, and saw this technique worked. You cut off the tip from the bottom of the sharpie, use needle nose pliers to pull out ink pad, and works a lot cleaner
Did you cut down the plastic to open up the marker for more disperment of the iij ink? I saw you cut them in half but not slice the plastic down the centers
I feel like it worked out pretty well! 🙂 I almost feel like the Sharpie colors fall to the bottom and make it pastel and the white acrylic ink floats to the top. I would use the Sharpie ink if I wanted more pastel colors and in the long run it will probably save us a lot of money in the end. 💗💗
Ink in general isn’t lightfast, that’s why even the most expensive alcohol markers don’t boast about being archival quality. The only thing that really preserves the inks in resin projects is the resin itself.

Will 70% work the same cant find 90plus
I wonder how they would perform if you added less rubbing alcohol
Alcohol is a binding agent that's one thing I've learned with my experiments
You can play around. More alcohol will make weaker colours unless you add more ink. Less alcohol may give you deeper colours, but you just have to try different levels of alcohol vs ink.
What if you tried using less white?
You're makeup and hair is completely flawless love it!! Together with your art and personality 🥰❤️✨
Wow,!! They turned out amazing!! I love the square one 💗
GIRL YOUR EYESHADOW!! I had to pause the video and take a moment! OMG why is everything you make amazing??
I absolutely LOVE your hair! I really enjoy watching you try out new things! Thank you!
Absolutely LOVE them !!
The cube is AWESOME
Via some prompting from Peter browns set of videos on trying alternative colors, I use food color and highlighters to color my pieces. It dosent do the drippy thing but it makes me happy not to have to buy super expensive colors, and the food color is transparent so any glitter or imbeds still show up nice.
Also, I went to the link you posted on a previous video about the resin you use and they just, weren't selling it. A little sad, I wanted to see if I liked it better then what I was using.
Your cube looks lovely
Nice to see another Peter Brown fan here!
I double my markers and use a 91 percent or higher alcohol. The metallic markers work too but you have to shake while using them. Wish I could post a few pics of some things I did with them.
Can we get a follow up?
Did you use them again? Did they work better after ?
When I made mine I sliced the felt sharpie inserts in half.
Pretty!! I would have liked to see one without the white alcohol ink or at least a little less.
I would love to see a few more without the White.
i was wondering, maybe you could use more than one sharpie per bottle to get a darker tint?
And yes you can paint eye shadow on the molds before using UV resin. I've never tried with 2 part resin.
I love how these turned out 😍 I've been wanting to try myself for awhile. Good job 👍
I have used rubbing alcohol to use sharpies as a medium for painting it was cool.
you can use the ink from a highlighter or sharpie directly to dye resin without diluting it
Just came across this video....love it! And you have a great fun personality which makes your videos enjoyable!
I just started watching you and love your ideas can't wait to try them thank you so much for all your ideas
so many beautiful art you make, i love them, you are a beautiful person and very skilled.
Wow these are so beautiful 🤩They came out gorgeous and it does work you did an awesome job I’m going to try that
That eye makeup tho 😍 combined with the hair, the whole look is absolutely fabulous
Is there a video of you mixing the white and coloured ink in those bottles?
You can also use more then 1 sharpie in a bottle to make it a deeper color
The big circle is beautiful! How about trying to mix the white directly in the bottles with the colors (as you did in your other video)? Wouldn't you'll get rid of the white dots? 🤔
Is there a way to make your own white alcohol ink. The whit alcohol ink you used was a major help.
Wonder what would happen if you used other types of pigments in alcohol, like gel food color, crushed watercolor tablets, India inks, mice powders, dry pigments like charcoal, etc.
loveeee your makeup girrlll!! great content!
Those are absolutely gorgeous I love how pastel they are!
My friend and I are always playing with resin and it’s so fun to watch your videos!
I just came for your hair. HOW did you get that purple in the beginning? Do you do it, or is it done at a salon, or wigs?
you could take the coating out too.. the outer coating. will make it easier
i love the lava lamp look as it reacts. they look so cool! i like how they came out.
This is a great idea and certainly more economical than buying the conventional inks.
You should try and find a way to make white alcohol ink
sisssssss your makeup your hair the black making it pop im in loveeeeeee
New subscriber! Your video of you trying pictures in resin popped up on my feed and I'm OBSESSED with all your stuff. I'm def going to have to try this alcohol ink trick.
Can you use the torch and heat gun on that? I have tried looking for answers but didn't come up with any.
I love the cube paperweight, it's like you cut a chunk out of an iceberg that's also rainbow
I also love this trend of you trying something thinking it won't work and finding out it actually works really well
I made my own. They're not as vibrant but two coats and it looked just as good as the store bought ones.
Do you have a video of you working with acrylic paint with resin?
I use acrylic paint to colour my resin sometimes. Beware, it will make the resin set faster/heat up. It’s not something you should do all the time (as an example, I ran out of white alcohol ink so I grabbed some white acrylic paint) it worked okay but the resin got incredibly hot
I want to see you pour resin on a table next !
I have been binge watching your videos and I love your art and your hair is amazing too
I have a newbie question.
I know I’m late, but in my experience only specific brands of alcohol ink will do what you’re describing, I think I’ve seen the effect gotten when the artist has used “resin ink?” (Technically it’s still just alcohol ink, but since it’s specifically for resin maybe that’s why the formula accomplishes it?)
You can see Nerdecrafter’s video on instagram art hacks (I believe the video I’m referencing has a rainbow thumbnail?) the white alcohol ink she used didn’t even cure and didn’t give the same effect shown in her reference.
Was the white an alcohol ink? I never seen white before. I am new at this. I am asking so I can look it up on how to get some. I got cheap inks on line but no white. So a brand or what exactly it is would really help me. Thank you in advance for any help.
I’d say they worked fairly well. Great job, always fun learning something new
I waa going to use my markers from dollar tree. And get my bottles from there too if they arent out. But do you know where to get a tiny funnel? I have seen this done many times but I enjoy seeing it again
Can you use a spray bottle for the inks instead of a dropper?
I don’t see why not!
She’s on her way. Good start ☺️
LOVE your eye shadow!!
Good Goddess your eye make up is stunning!!! xx
Heather is stunning! Lol. I love that she mixes up her make-up and hair colours just as much as she does her project colours!
I’m curious how light fast the ink would be.
Ink in general isn’t lightfast, that’s why even the most expensive alcohol markers don’t boast about being archival quality. The only thing that really preserves the inks in resin projects is the resin itself.
what would happen if you put the ink in the bottom of the mold before you pour the resin in?
