I love that answer because that question implies that growing up in America is the "normal" place and anywhere else is strange. If growing up in Kenya is the only life you knew for your younger years that is going to be perfectly fine and normal to you.
Yeah, imagine if her parents weren't the Kenyan elites.
If you took the question that way then that’s your problem. There is nothing wrong with asking someone what’s it like growing up where they grew up. I’m pretty sure living in Tokyo, Brooklyn, West Virginia, Amsterdam, and Kenya would all be very different experiences. In no way shape or form is that a disrespectful question. It seems like the format of this show is to give brief answers. If this were a sit down regular interview she might have actually answered the question in depth.
