  • I’m not giving up on the Rotolight Neo 3 just yet. Now to be clear… as a flash it’s not working for me. But as an LED, I’m ok with it. I still think it’s priced way to high from a still photographers perspective, but it may be different for hybrid or straight video shooters. With this shoot I use it as a straight LED and then at the end of the video, I add in the Rotolight Aeos.

I love the fact you can dial in a kelvin snd ultimately create a look. Aeos and neos are Fun. I think they are great ambient light tools.

Good to see an unfiltered review with a focus on the limitations as well as the positives. I thought the flash capabilities of this system did not seem right.

thanks for the effort and the sharing. for me, Wednesday are Headshot Wednesday. so yesterday was a Wednesday but since I did not have a client, I pulled out the stands but instead of my various Godox strobes, I used a Godox SL100D, a sub-$100 Black Friday special from Adorama. Using a Canon EOS R and a 50mm/1.8, I shot @1/160/f4/ISO 400, I was really surprised how the images looked (self portraits-the EOS R is very easy to manually focus!) even with various modifiers-white shoot thru-silver inside/black outside bounce-42" deep octo. I was surprised that I could raise the ISO to 400, even 640 and have perfectly noise free portraits. for me, i'd rather use flash, but i can see the value of a constant light as a viable option. thumbs up.

I worked with LED's for a coule of years... It just didn't work for me, always fought with using flash or LED's. Just recently I sold all my LED's. I am now using strictly GODOX flash... shoe mounts and monolights... I liked your studio images best...

I really can never get away from strobes because of the power. But it is fun to play.

interesting video but I’m not sure whether I would really use this light on a real job seems more like a fun thing to use!

I bought a Neo 3 and after several months of use, it is very clear that for me it is not a flash. I have a Godox AD300 Pro and wanted to supplement with Neo 3 because I have to move around. For the video it is good, for the photo, to create atmospheres it can be fine. I bought a Godox AD100 Pro to do the job of the Neo 3 and here we can talk about a flash. At the price of the Neo 3 you can buy 2 Godox AD100 Pro flashes or an AD300 Pro. No, it's not a flash.

I've had the NEO 2. They do make it sound like it'll be more powerful than it is. The AEOS 2 Pro is far more powerful and effective.

why are you placing the light from the same direction as the window light? Might as well just shoot natural light from the window.

    • @kaskoPhoto
      @kaskoPhoto  9 месяцев назад

When enhancing natural light and / or using mixed lighting, always keep the light coming from one direction (your main light). Remember that we see light in a natural state (the sun) and it comes from one direction. Placing a main light coming from another direction will create, well, two suns. Our minds know this is unnatural.

IMO this light find it purpose in the dark and not so much during clear daylight.

I do like it for a little additive to daylight - just some minor fill.

@@kaskoPhoto Indeed that would be great. But people think this is a full alternative for a key flash during day time and then get disapointed. Probably cause marketing is prommising to much. But for its real purpose (low ambient light or dark ) it isn't bad at all

Have you tried the iPhone app allowing wireless control. Here in Canada this kit is a tad short of $1K!!! NO THANK YOU! Our Godox AD200's (can get three for the same price) are so much more versatile. We have 4 Neo 1 models; we gel them and place them on the ground in gardens, shrubbery and woodland settings when doing couples portraits around the golden hour.

My favorite setup is the AD200 with the remote cord and round head. That is spectacular. I hate that they screwed up the color on the 100 and V1. I also loved the 600 with the remote head cable.

B ((( Rotolight / Sony Pocket Flash Important Information )))
Hello for those individuals that are thinking about purchasing the NEO PRO and the AEOS PRO lights. You need to be aware that these lights are only half the power of a Standard pocket flash. I did a thorough test on these lights with my Seckonic Light Meter for absolute accuracy. I set the AEOS Pro & a on Camera Flash 6 feet from my light meter. I then set my ISO at 500 I set the shutter speed at 250th of a second and my aperture at 2.8 . Using Flash at max power with the AEOS Pro then adjusting my on Camera Flash to match the exact same Power outage as the AEOS Pro . And found that the AEOS Pro was half the power of a 80 W. Pocket flash / on Camera Flash. Please understand what I am saying it is extremely important for you to know that these lights are only have to power of an on camera flash.
Half the power that’s it. If you would like to know more I have placed a comment below this one to give you much more information if you are truly interested.

LEDs will never match Xenon flash. Rotolight is LED - not xenon. Nuff said.

@@jaym5938 Hello there, I'm not sure exactly how to respond to your comment since it is so limited in what you are trying to Xpress. If you were going to leave a comment you should elaborate a little bit more on what you're trying to say so individuals can truly understand your point of view. The point behind what I have been expressing is that Roto light and all of the RUclips showing Rotolight make it sound like they are extremely powerful and can be used in almost any Application. And that is not true I am just trying to educate individuals on how limited these lights are for photography. They are exceptional for videographers and they are very useful in low light conditions for photography but that's it. I noticed that there were individuals that were confused about the strength of these lights since no one really elaborate on their true power and strength that's why I left the comments that I left. That being said Nuff said

A ((( Rotolight / Sony Pocket Flash Important Information )))
Hello for all of the individuals that are looking at Rotolight AEOS PRO & the NEO PRO and wondering if this product is for you let me give you some information that might help you make a Better / Proper decision.
I will be directing my comments about the AEOS PRO and the NEO PRO. If you are working in a controlled environment like a studio where you have absolute control over your lighting. Or if you are using these lights for videography absolutely that’s where these light shine. I would give these lights to 10 rating with videography.
Or if you are shooting outdoors in a very gloomy or cloudy day and you are OK with your lights only being 2 to 3 feet from your subject. Then these two lights will work perfectly fine for you.
But if you are working in an environment where there is a significant amount of window light or your environment has a sufficient amount of lighting provided. You will find that these lights are extremely limiting your creative workflow.
If you notice they never use a light meter indicating to their viewers the strength or the lack of strength the lights provide.
That all being said I have to give the lights credit where credit is due they do have amazing technology incredible technology wrapped up in these lights. It is the power of the lights that I have an issue with and Only the power.
I was sucked in by all of the technology and truly did not realize the environment that they were using the lights in. Either in a very dark environment or very low lit environment. Even when they use them outdoors notice that the environment is very gloomy or cloudy. It is never a bright sunny day. And if they ever do noticed that it is only highlighting the subject making them stand out just enough. But if you try and darken the situation add more contrast to the picture add your creative touch it’s not going to happen in a bright environment the lights are not strong enough.
I have given you a link below of two individuals that has pretty much done the same testing as I have. I think mine was a little bit more precise. That being said I would watch the video all the way through so you’re able to come to your own conclusion.
