Thank you! Do you think the Neo 3 will do much in outdoor bright day light? I am shooting some video street portraits and I am looking to get a catchlight in the eye with an on camera light. Thank you!

Great video dude! You used the heck out of that light. Great to see this video go up!

  •  Год назад +1

Vu, do you always shoot in high frame rate? BTW, great video. Was debating here on some lights, this NEO 3 is one of them, but it is by far the most expensive that I'm considering. Sure, have way more features, but I wonder how the output compares to the Godox ML60Bi. Not sure if you have access to this Godox light, but maybe some other comparable 60W light, like the Amaran 60X

Thanks for the video! I went ahead and ordered the same lighting setup as you. Some random things I've found so far:
-- Things on backorder/not currently available: Ulanzi light stands (B&H says they're coming, but it's been a few months now); Rotolight diffusion dome (one of my kits lacked one, and B&H won't even let me put one on backorder -- the supplier can't give a timeframe for when they might be available). So, that seems strange for a light that was only released in February 2022. Rotolight Neo 2 was May 2017, and the original Neo was I don't know when -- maybe 2010 or 2011. So I doubt they'd be bringing out Neo 4 just yet...
-- If you have a second shooter, then, during the dancing at the end of the night, they can act as a human light stand, and run around with the light in Cycle mode as a 45 degree key light, or shine it into your lens for flare effects. That was fun.
-- Rotolight claims the light is the world's brightest on-camera light, but I don't think the light has a great throw. I think it drops off fast. I've got some on-camera lights from over a decade ago, and I think they throw the light further. So, this has made me consider the Aputure Lightstorm 60X, which a lot of other wedding guys seem to be using.
-- The Rotolights don't seem to like my Sony batteries! I'm trying to work out why. But this has been kind of frustrating; during two or three jobs now, they've just turned off in the middle of speeches or whatever, although the battery indicator claimed there was a lot of juice left. It's something to do with the batteries not being able to withstand a constant high draw when you set the Rotolights to CCT mode and push the brightness. And we're not even talking about max brightness -- maybe something like 60%. So, this one is a bit of a head scratcher. I'm not using dodgy batteries, but obviously I need to find higher performance ones, or find some alternative way to power it...

If you want to mic a bride, the easiest way I found (as a man) is to prewire the dress when it's hanging and then I have the MOH or family member go under the dress once it's on to attach the recorder. Small recorders can clip onto the garter but I invested into Ursa Thigh Straps that hold my recorder and don't slip off lotioned up or sweaty legs.
All in all I liked todays content. Lighting and audio are absolutely everything.

All about tools in the toolbag and working smarter, not necessarily cheaper on the bits that sets your work apart. I ran with a set of 3 Rotolight Neo2's for years and were an absolute godsend when they were released, back when mini LED RGB/FX panels did not exist and all decent lighting was dumb (no bicolour, RGB, FX etc) and mains powered. Although the old ones were not RGB, it didn't take long to stick one of their gel disks in but the main issue was brightness which the Neo3 has certainly made up for. The other thing was batteries, my word the Neo2's use a lot of AA's! I actually switched over to mid sized NP-F style panels that were bigger just because I was doing a medium term job running around doing 6 interviews a day in different locations and didn't have time to throw mains power around and I was killing the planet with the huge pile of dead, expensive Duracels I was disposing of every week (100+). I finally sold of my Neo2's earlier this year (while they still had value) and dropped some Smallrig 12W RGB/FX panels into the mix instead as a stop-gap. I'll be picking a Neo3 or two up in the near future because they literally have it all going on and the cheap panels are put back in their place again, as additional throw-in/fall-backs.

Idk if you'd be able to answer this lighting question. I run my a7s111 on a 7 foot monopod to video wet t-shirt contests. Lighting towards the end of the night is terrible. I'm about 6 feet from the stage. What kind of light would you recommend for me to attach to the pole under the camera so I'm not blinding contestants on stage while they look at the lens.
I'm running the camera with a 24mm g master lens.
Also, would you recommend running auto iso auto white balance and perhaps auto shutter?
I was running at 12800 iso in pp11 and it's gritty, so I want to get some light in there so I don't have gritty videos.
    Thanks for this video

We got lucky 20 years ago with our videographer. He and his dad were doing CBC Documentaries and had a small video editing business. Got them just before they left the wedding business. I'm sure things have gotten a lot better in the last 20 years but getting the right footage in a live event let alone framing and lighting it effectively is pretty hard.
