Such beautiful Ki Ho’alu. I sometimes play this beautiful music in the background whilst I'm doing other things, this music makes me happy, (one of my favourites is Ledward Kaapana, especially with his family or Fran Guidry e.g. Opihi Moemoe and Salomila). There are so many other favourite genres I like such as Cajun (e.g. High Life Cajun Band), Zydeco (e.g. Lisa Haley and The Zydekats), Bluegrass (e.g. The Petersens), Hillbilly (e.g. The Hillbilly Gypsies), Mountain Music (e.g. Mainers Mountaineers), Dixie Music (e.g. The Carter Family), Country Music (e.g. Willie Nelson, Randy Travis, Merle Haggard, Rosanne Cash etc) Australian Country Music (e.g. Troy Cassar-Daley, Lee Kernaghan etc.) Oklahoma Country Music (e.g.The Tractors), Beautiful Indonesian Music (e.g.Ismail Marzuki, Gamelan meets Orchestra), Beautiful Ambient Music (e.g. Fridrick Karlssen), English Folk Blues (e.g. Pete Stanley and Wizz Jones), American Blues (e.g. Leadbelly (Midnight Special) and Hoyt Axton (Cocaine) Big Bill Broonzy (Guitar Shuffle), I also like Reggae (e.g. Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff etc) ... and a polar opposite, I also love Chinese and Taiwanese Music (Jessica Ho, MUSA, OctoEast, Teresa Teng etc.) there are two singers called Jessica Ho, I think one is Korean but it's the Chinese one I like, she sings songs such as Wo Ai Ni. I also like many other singers such as Elvis (e.g. The Trilogy), Rod Stewart (e.g. The First Cut is the Deepest), Fats Domino (e,g, Blueberry Hill), Paul Anka (e.g. Oh Carol/Lonely Boy etc),, Helen Shapiro (e.g. Walking Back To Happiness etc), Max Merritt and the Meteors (e.g.Slippin' Away From Me), Billy Fury (e.g. Half Way to Paradise), Eddie Cochran (e.g. Three Steps to Heaven), Buddy Holly (e.g. Words of Love), The Beatles (e.g. Love Me Do/Hey Jude), Manfred Mann (e.g. Do Wah Diddy Diddy), The Hollies (e.g. Carrie Anne), The Everly Brothers (e.g. All I Have to Do is Dream), The Eagles (e.g. Take it to the Limit/Hotel California) The Shirelles (e.g. Will you still love me tomorrow), Fleetwood Mac (e.g. Don't Stop/Go Your Own Way) etc. and loads more, too many to mention. My very favourite Album is called 'To all the Girls' and it's full of beautiful duets, Willie Nelson and some of the best female singers such as Sheryl Crow, Rosanne Cash. Carrie Underwood, Norah Jones, Tina Rose and Brandi Carlyle etc. Out of all my above favourites, Hawaiin Slack Key is right up there near the top.
This is excellent....I used to live on the Islands way back when...didn't see how brilliant some of the local guitarists were so talented. Now I realize.
Many mahalo's for sharing! I finally got to see the fingering, and thanks for telling us the tuning. You don't know how many times I listened to this song and tried to figure out the tuning!
Thank you so much, Fran, for your postings of Ledward, and of you. I am grateful for generosity by both of you, making your beautiful music available online. I never would have discovered it otherwise. I'= am going to see what is available to buy, both for my enjoyment and in appreciation. My good wishes to you both.
Classic slack key tune, made first famous by Gabby "pops" Pahinui! Led's version is also a classic too! I remember when Hui Ohana and led first sang this in Hilo HI. in the 1970's
How can one man make such amazing music? He is THE best guitar player in the whole world and an all-round swell guy! I reckon you must have had great fun, Fran. Mahalo for sharing in some of the magic. Me ke aloha, Wanda
I love his voice too - how come the musical voice never matches the impression the mind first gets is beyond me - has to be my favorite Hawaiian song ever.......
You can track his progress at his website: ledkaapana.com/concerts.htm He performs regularly in Hawai`i and usually tours the mainland a couple of times a year. Fran
What is that last little bit of music in the outro? That sounds pretty sweet. Thanks for sharing this glorious video. Nothing can take you away faster than the sweet sounds of the slack key guitar... and let's not even mention that fantastic falsetto he makes sound so easy!
That outro is just one of Led's improvisations. There are a few songs that he plays with the same intro and ending each time, but more often he's inventing stuff on the spot that we may never hear again. Fran
@@franguidry So beautifully sung I really want to learn your fingerpicking nothing is impossible if you have tutorial on youtube too Fran. A request from fpmlio@hotmail.com
This is one of all-time favorite ever, John Kameaaloha Almeida with Auntie Genoa, Panini Pua Kea. Oh, he's in C tuning and not Taro Patch (G)? I wish I could go see him, but they're always in Kaliponi, and I'm in Arizona. Don't think they ever come here. ruclips.net/video/sdxmjjn8v3E/видео.html
If I want to contact this man for guitar tutorial is there any email or address to contact. I dont want him to loose his talent I really love him to be my teacher in guitar and fingerpicking.

Ledward sings the old Hawaiian way. Nice! Funny, he laughs n I laugh too! I have no clue why! I just realize, that’s the way my gramp Chris Soares sang’
Absolutely beautiful! Slack key doesn't get any better than this.
You've got that right all right. Thanks for visiting.
