I remember my Year 2 teacher ordered an eMac for our class, in 2003. She must have been a fan because we were the only classroom in the school to have an eMac for some reason. I remember being amazed at the shiny white design, and the aqua interface. The class would take turns playing Otto-Magic. So much nostalgia. Our computer rooms were filled with the iMac G3’s, which were discarded around 2006 unfortunately. I remember them being kind of unreliable. We had 1 of the graphite DV iMacs, and my friends and I somehow knew it was the fastest one despite not knowing anything about macs back then. Fun times.

I have some personal history with this model. I went to elementary school in 2001, first IT lesson had in 2002. Back then we had only one class equiped with computers, very old PCs running Win 95 or 98, nevermind. During lesson one computer had to be shared by two students. Then in 2005 suddenly our school received a substantial amount of these eMacs. For us it was a great upgrade! Different environment, one computer per user, wow factor was very big then. As I observed many other school in Poland also used eMacs, even I met them at the end of my high school, but as secondary PCs in library. It was in 2013 and then eMacs was already veeery obsolete, but still working unlike PCs from the same year. I even saw them rotting in storage. Probably I would be able to get one fo free then (but didn't have any room for one then). Many other people 5-7 years older and younger from me knows eMac, so this model was for nearly all of us a first contact with Mac at all.
From another perspective - I felt that these computers didn't have enough power. Sometimes operating in spreadsheet or vector graphics was painful. Despite this in 2005 it was enough to browse Internet and play flash games (extinct right now, but man! we spent hours on them).

Call me crazy but I think you might be a bit hypocritical with this one. I use a dell pc on occasion but I've stopped because apps like discord, minecraft, chrome, and firefox cause my 2018 dell pc to crash or have to reboot. And before you would say something like, "You're an apple fanboy!" Yes, I enjoy the computer tablet and phones but I dont buy them without hesitation or praise apple without seeing their flaws like: Overpriced things, Possible crashed, shitty mice, and a few others.

    • @IcebergGamingTop10s

@@placeholderplaceholder6056 Me? I don't think I'm a hypocrite. I really have been told by people that "Macs don't crash", and I really have laughed at them, because my earliest Mac experiences were of my Uni's PowerPC-based Macs which would periodically crash, often causing me to lose a bunch of work. I'm not saying that while typing on an eMac in my "Macs don't crash" t-shirt.

Not sure about the very early release models of this eMac. But the 1.25/1.42Ghz models will definitely need a recap for the caps used on the logic board. These were definitely impacted by the capacitor plague of the early 2000s. Saw two blown caps on my 1.42Ghz eMac while cleaning it out. Despite 2 caps having completely vented tops, the machine still runs fine. It's definitely something I want to fix though so I don't use the eMac very much as running it with bad caps can cause more problems. So I only run it when I really need to.
Not sure on the analog board, but it's mainly the motherboard that needs the recap. My model used mainly thru hole mounted caps so it's not one of the more difficult machines to recap unlike some older Macs that used SMD mounted caps. (those caps had leaking issues with age so not related to the defective capacitor issues the 2000s era machines had)

I primarily used the eMac in high school, although it wasn't hard to find an iMac either. A lot of students abused the heck out of both computers and would punch out the speakers on the eMacs with a pen or pencil.

The literal only thing that kills mine for me is the PPC cpu because it's difficult to find real good applications for it.
For me at least. It just feels like any version of any photo editing software you could use would be junk, it couldn't handle HD video editing, et cetera. Pro Tools would be the only thing I could conceivably see these being useful for these days, and maybe vintage emulation. SNES emulation looks fantastic on these, and the sound cards are actually top quality.

Now take out the inside, sell that, use the shell (every part) and make/mod a PC or Hackintosh into it. Along with a good quality (whatever size) LED-LCD.

Of course, the eMac was a G4 with a flat panel CRT screen, making it great for editing photographs, whereas the iMac G3 was noticeably curved and smaller.

I was just using my eMac today. Even though I have a 2017 iMac 27 inch screen I go back to the eMac to convert files, such as .cwk files I made a long time ago.(AppleWorks). I convert them into a .png files to work on my newer iMac, and I convert old QuickTime music. The best thing about it has both system Mac OS X and 9 on it. That's the way it came.

A little story here. In 2009, my iMac was stolen and I had to buy a cheap Mac and found a eMac for $150 at the time and used it temporarily until I bought a late 2009 Mac Mini. What I think about the eMac? I think it’s pretty heavy and not stupid fast but good enough for basic use.
