2012 that's when I bought the MacBook Pro I'm still using to this day, I opted for the non Retina matt display DVD drive version though, and it's still in great condition and going strong, I only ever upgraded the hard drive and RAM, i bought a 24" iMac last year and I wouldn't consider it any faster or anything tbh,
it's quite shocking how little has changed in the last 10 years especially compared to the previous decade 2002-2012

It's always nice to see old machines in daily use. The Unibody MacBooks were truly great. I use the 2011 one and still no complaints at all. I would be happy with newer version of Bluetooth and a touch ID, but otherwise there's nothing that would make me want to switch at the moment.

75% battery health after 10 years is pretty impressive! I recently replaced the battery in a ~2016 XPS 15 that had only 30% health, and probably saw a similar life to this...thankfully Dell didn't stick those batteries in with adhesive at least.

You should probably get a set of screw extracting pliers. I got an Engineer PZ-57 for my MSI laptop because the heatsink screws came stripped and I needed to desperately clean it out. MSI, known for one thing: Overly tight screws.
They bite hard into the screw and, provided you have room (you would have here for instance), you turn the pliers as it eats the screw. Of course the screw can't be put back in, but any method of removing a stripped screw is like that.
    Neat find and repair!

Hi I actually bought the Unibody one with the GT 650M 512 MB VRAM for a good price and now I use it as my main gaming computer, sadly it won't run stuff like Warzone or so but on Bootcamp I can play Battlefield 4 on medium settings 900p 60fps, GTAV on low settings 900p 50fps, Fortnite on 900p with performance mode a bit over 60fps, CSGO on low settings 800p over 90fps and for last Valiant on lowest settings 900p over 120fps and so on. I hope it would give you an idea about the machine's performance if you are thinking of buying it but definitely look for upgrading to dual channel memory and an SSD. I had a 3210 13" model when I went to school. It was my first and only mac overall thus far. 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD in 2013 was pretty sweet compared to my desktop at the time and frankly in general, minus the fact that the desktop had a dGPU. Ultimately while now I could easily upgrade a non retina, the retina with a automatic SSD at the time was possibly by greatest spec for spec upgrade. I originally got it for iOS dev before almost all general tools could make apps without actually having an Apple machine and realizing that was not the path my life would take. When I first bought it, it was absolutely banging and one of the best PCs I ever owned period. Unfortunately. software got significantly worse over time and Apple DESTROYED my 4s iPhone, basically killing off desire to full send the ecosystem. That + my need for just a Windows or Unix based machine meant I could not justify keeping it around when I could buy a "shitbox + SSD" for cheaper.
I wound up thus far with a 3070 90 Watt laptop. I still miss the macbook here and there. It would not have gotten the proper treatment from me OS wise so I hope it brought someone else joy. But man if it was not a solid laptop between all supported MacOS versions, Win7, Win8, and Win10 (also Win10 on a USB 2.0 drive... Yikes.).

This MacBook Pro seems to be VERY similar to my 2021 14' MacBook Pro.Pretty interesting how there took inspiration from this one + customer feedback and made a great NEW MacBook Pro.

This is my laptop! I have the maxed out version that costed around $3k at the time, still in great shape 9/10 but I did have to replace the spicy pillow, It currently runs Catalina.

watching this on my 16GB ram 2013 MacBook Pro retina which I've had since new. It's a great machine which I feel absolutely no need to even think about replacing.

I got the same model yesterday. The battery seems at the same remaining percentage (75%). It does not seem bloated so I'm not going to replace it. I wanted to replace the thermal paste, but the previous owner also seemed to have stripped two screws on the GPU heatsink. I'm not going to risk using a dril, knowing my luck, I'll end up in the board. The CPU was at 67 degress Celcius when watching this, so it still seems ok.
The right side fan seems to rattle a little (I suspect worn bearings), so I'm on the lookout for a cheap replacement.
The screen has no signs of delamination.
I installed Ventura on it with OCLP. This machine is running better than expected :D
I'm using it for some typescript / C# programming. Not a bad deal for € 200.

I’ve been dailying one of these, a 2.6GHz model with 8GB RAM on Mojave (because Catalina is just horrible). As I came from a late-2011 a1278, aka a furnace, the fan noise and it also being a furnace didn’t really bother me that much, and neither was the new battery I put in (actually far better than my old Pro or even my ‘12 Air)… what did was the occasional kernel panic from sometimes when it switches GPUs. Otherwise, good machine, but I probably wouldn’t recommend you get one.
Edit: Oh god! You stripped the exact same screw I did on the heatsink! Yeah, that’s why my unit stayed in storage until I got some screw extractor kit. Absolutely frustrating.

Thinking of getting one of these(the 2014 model with 16Gb Ram) until I can afford the 16 MBP. Will be using it for basic stuff(word processing, browsing, RUclips, etc.) and some coding which I believe it should handle without problem.

75% battery health was't bad at all. My 2016 (Bought in January 2017) got the same battery health. Sometimes it jumps up sometimes down for some reasons.

Recently dusted off my Mid-2015 15” and it’s quite solid under Monterey. I did end up getting the battery replaced for random shutdowns but the actual battery life is incredible with the new OS. With new paste the processor seems to be doing a lot better but I didn’t look too closely into it, it went from ass to slightly less ass at gaming lol.
