Lloyd I really admire your calm demeanor and how you ask thought provoking questions. The other week I was at my local college campus and JWs were there doing cart witnessing. I approached them and said I found it ironic for them to be out spreading their message on a college campus when they specifically deter their members from even going to college. Even mentioned the video of Mark Sanderson advocating for turning down a college scholarship. Their response was “no we don’t, it’s a personal decision”. At that point I just walked away as my blood started to boil. Kudos to you.

The jws are on college campuses to attract the people there, not to attend classes (the meaning of “going to college”)…so their being on any campus is NOT ironic.
For context, I’m an exjw, so I agree with your position, but just trying to be logical in my criticism 😆…

Let say you are enthusiastic about physics, and someone ask you why the theory of relativity is correct or "true". You would be thrilled to explain, in layman terms, all the evidence and obeservations that support the theory. In the case of JW, they almost feel uncomfortable with the question, and tell you to do your own research to quickly move on to another subject. That´s very telling.

If they have "minders" that means that certain people are being told who the prominent apostates are and what they look like. They have to choose someone that's willing to deal with them when they show up but someone that won't get curious to see what they are ultimately saying. Knife's edge.

Ive experienced this "minder" scenario with witnesses. I started gently enquiring about the religion with a couple on the cart. With the idea of engaing them enough I could ask some more probing questions. After 5 min this guy appeared and basically took over the conversation from the original two. They gradually stepped aside. This "minder" chap just basically told me to click on Jw.Borg to get any answers so I lost interest.
A couple of months later same location I was speaking to a different couple and the same " minder" appeared within 2 minutes and just looked at me as if to say I know what your up to mate clear off.

i think the thing I love most about this is that witnesses almost always without fail use rehearsed, regurgitated information the governing body has told them; when faced with simple logic, you can literally hear the gears in their brain spinning trying to desperately twist something they've been taught into something that could apply to the question you've asked. 9\10 times, their argument falls apart and they start giving you half answers with no defined yes or no answers.

As a 'worldly' convert, both my husband and I to then becoming a full blown auxillary pioneer , even with two school aged children (now ex JW) It never ceases to amaze me how the indoctrination process is crafted.
I'm disgusted at the blatant and giant lie by that gentleman JW about NOT shunning baptised people who leave of their own volition. In which alternate reality I ask?
Further, the Titus 1:2, "God CANNOT lie" scripture was always exquisite to me personally. I recall trying to proselytise my own sibling, saying "This is the true religion ", by proclaiming "I imitate God and if he cannot lie I certainly won't! "
This was promoted in my bible studies but clearly not applicable value endorsed by this representative of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah in this witnessing scenario.
Great work Lloyd and it's great to be aware that JW org. Is not the true religion. I actually pity the many friends I made during those 4 plus years.

Interesting comment by the lady in Zagreb about not starting a study at the beginning of the Bible and working through. She was spot on that most would be bored however I wonder if the WT realise that doing that would get so many immediate questions about how the Earth formed, abiogenesis, evolution, age of the planet etc that that is why they would never do this.
And before that the lady is saying there are lots of people who say they follow the Bible but there are lots of interpretations…so..
(1] sounds like their Bible Study is a “no true Scotsman” then.
    (2) if there are so many religions that follow the Bible because of different interpretations then surely it’s not a book written by or inspired by any god and/or is infallible as any god that they think exists would have been able to made the book crystal clear to all and not leave things open to interpretation.

    • @SunguchMan20

This question bothered me a lot when I was a JW. I wondered often about two things 1. How did an all powerful all knowing god leave us with such a book that literally can be interpreted whichever way anyone wants? Wouldn't he have made sure that there was no doubt and his word as clear as day? Humans write better wills to take care of their affairs and family when they die-it just didn't compute. 2. Why is god going to kill non JWs, seemed to me like there would be a ton of people who would never have heard the "good news" why will they be killed? The children too? Babies? What did they do to deserve god's wrath? These among many other JWs tormented me. I thought Jehovah himself was going to chop me into pieces every time my mind would question the reality I was being taught.😂

OK I have a question for the Croatian JW, I also had a jw who was Croatian, but after attending a few meetings with her, things went " sour" she attempt to be bossy, conrtrolling me along, at the meetings every week when I was sick, I had pneumonia, she argued with me saying, that if I don't attend, I will always be ill, for the rest of my life.
When she came to my front door, she started to argue with my mum, then abused my mum. I then told her, she was banned from my house, she refused to listen.
I told her ( as she returned from Egypt) she had a stomach infection, at the same time I had pneumonia in 2016) I also advised her not to come to my house, myself with pneumonia and her stomach illness.
She took offence, then it led to a few months of the jws lady Stojanka Totavic to abuse me and my mum.
    I nearly called the police.
These Witnesses do nothing but want to boss and control you.

They denied having such information. They said that it would be a violation against GDPR. They have learned their lesson well. I said that it makes sense, like if I would be mad at some article in newspaper in the 1990's, there would be no reason why I would not read the same newspaper again. Editorial policies change, so do people. I said that I have visited many churches like the Orthodox Church. I said that it was nice to go there, even nicer to get out. And by the time 1st John 2:18 was written they believed that they were living in the last hour.
So if a day is a thousand years how much is an hour? A little under 50 years. And at what point in that hour did they think that they were living? Quarter past? Half past? 45 minutes past? Two minutes to midnight?
The entire New Testament from Matthew through Revelation conveys the message that THEY were living in the last days and that the end was near.
"The end of all things is near" 1st Peter 4:7
All of the New Testament including the gospels was written decades after Jesus supposedly lived, died and was resurrected.
In Matthew 24 : 33 and 34 Jesus told his disciples that they would know his return was near and that he was right at the door when they saw all the things he predicted take place.
Decades after he supposedly said that, James 5:8 and 9 stated that the return of the Lord is near, he is right at the door.
Even Revelation opens up with the statement that it is a revelation of things which must SOON take place. That the time was near and Jesus was coming quickly.
John had a vision of his near future when a beast would rise out of the abyss.
He explained that the beast "once was, now is not, yet is about to rise up out of the abyss."
That means that at sometime prior to John writing Revelation the beast had been on the scene (once was).
At the time John wrote Revelation the beast was in the abyss (now is not).
But John expected the beast to rise out of the abyss shortly thereafter.

@@extraterrestrial4287 Hey there - your name perfect here ☺
      Still, 'as' isn't 'is'.
And those beastly tenses you mention fit snug into there being 'time no longer', as given in the same book.
Also, with any immanence of end times perhaps best characterized by 'This generation will not pass until all these things be fulfilled' and that verse particularly agreeing with all your 'soon' points, it also holds them all to: -
      - faiths' evident continuance after a generation despite those verses,
      - two worlds (one spiritual),
      - the word sleep interchangable with that of death.
Then there's the spirit of Elijah ascribed to the Baptist, or Enoch being spared death itself.
All of this in a timelessness we might feel we sense and yet just maybe, don't.

Let me see if i can help throw some light on this......though im sure there will be no point as people believe what they want to believe. The majority of the World does not want to believe in a God? Simply because it would mean them being held accountable for their lives, changing their ways and life. They are happy with their lot and accept the world for what it is, and struggle through life suffering the mess it is and end with death with no hope for a future. Funny thing is the biggest controversial question that has stood the test of time is whether there is a god or not.....where did that come from, when fashions and fads and icons come and go. Why is this point still on going? It is a fact that belief in God is getting less and less with each decade and will temporarily end with destruction of all false religion. One of the Witnesses in the video tried to answer why believing in god and just being a good person is not enough to survive the end of this system.....answer is "“This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.”-JOHN 17:3." and James 2 14-17 "Faith without works is dead" One must study the bible to best of his own ability and apply it in their life to the point of baptism, and continue to live by it, in essence becoming one of jesus disciples where he told them to "go therefore and make disciples of all the peoples of all the nations. Matthew 24 14 "And this good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the habited Earth, for a witness to all the nations and then the end will come"......... You asked for proof. everyone likes proof, proof is in the details.......look online at those that walk through the remains of Sodom and Gomorrah, the walls remain but are nothing but ash, in fact you can see heat swirl patterns in all the walls. Sulphur balls embedded. The Grand canyon is the single most obvious proof the flood happened and evolution couldn't of happened. See the layers of mud and different composites in different colours? If that all formed over millions of years, then why isnt there a graduation in those colours? Why are the canyon walls all jagged and not smoothed by water over millions of years? Why are there still fossilized bird prints in the rocks? Ever see a bird leave footprints in wet mud and they remain there for days and past the days it rains? All that was done in seconds with shifting mud flats slamming down layer on layer encasing all the different creatures, including woolly mammoth found with fresh veg still in its mouth....die of old age did it? Mentioned in the Bible is King Hezekiah, a fictional person? Look online and see his seal with his name still on it, better still look at the ancient city of Babylon which the Bible said it would never be rebuilt and that wild beasts would inhabit it.....there are houses and peoples dwellings all around the city on the edge of its walls foundations clearly seen and nothing but animals live there....the remains of the city still show the name of King Nebuchadnezzar in the bricks, and the names of those above his name where they had tried to rebuild it. If you throw a bag of marbles in the air, would they fall into an organised pattern to such accuracy that can sustain life and set your watch too? Granted this isnt the world that Jehovah god created, it has become contaminated and twisted and is living proof that 1 john 5:19 "The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one" He wants to hide the truth from you.....he would rather you believe in evolution or that there is an afterlife. Jehovahs witnesses are not there trying to convert you in that like manner, they are there being obedient trying to help people understand for themselves.....that is why we have been designed with the gift of free will, the right to choose for ourselves. Adam made the wrong choice and so we all suffer sin now as the world was handed to Satan so that God could prove why man cant rule himself. The result? He has given us the Bible to explain why we are here, why the world is in the mess it is, how we can best deal with it, and what he intends to do about it in the near future. You all have the right to choose for yourselves...though I am reminded of Matthew 7:13 “Go in through the narrow gate, because broad is the gate and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are going in through it , whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are finding it"

      Craig Lee,
Who says that nobody should be accountable for their actions or that people shouldn't believe in God? Most people on Earth are religious. Atheists and agnostics are not the majority. Some people do change aspects of their lives all the time, but as long as they're not harming anyone, people can do pretty much what they prefer. As for the scientific questions, you ask, they're all good questions, but I'm not a scientist, and those are the people you should be asking about those questions. I'm not willing to just accept one religious group's or any religious group's explanations over scientific mysteries that they probably don't want to understand because it might conflict with cherished doctrine. I feel that's dishonest. I don't see how the Grand Canyon was caused by a global flood, especially when there isn't enough water to flood the entire earth. Why does one have to choose between accepting evolution or believing in life after death? Plenty of religious people accept evolution and believe in an afterlife.
I don't know that Hezekiah was a fictional person. I think a lot of Biblical patriarchs were probably fictitious. As for saying God is a "fad", if belief in the divine is a "fad", then why have people believed in deities for millennia? It's an inherent thing to believe in sources greater than us, though I don't necessarily believe that belief in God is inherent in everyone. Wer'e also pattern seekers. We're living in a time where it's more okay to question belief in God whereas in other times it may not have been. We're living in a time where we can even question Jehovah's Witness doctrine; if the JW denomination were the dominant religion in society and had existed at some other time, history might have a different story to tell. Would the JWs have been willing to hand people over to secular governments to execute people for heresy and apostasy because it presented a challenge to the Organization's orthodoxy? Would they have behaved any differently than their Catholic or Protestant peers in that regard?
I'd personally like to think so and that Witnesses wouldn't be that cruel or harsh, but I don't trust the Watchtower Society enough as an institution when it comes to the amount of power and influence that they have. I don't wish to live in a Jehovah's Witness theocracy than I would to exist in any kind other religious theocracy; I'm an atheist, and I don't want to live in a country that would promote State atheism either. I wouldn't Witnesses themselves living in a JW theocracy, I'd worry about their safety and livelihoods, especially the already least advantaged ones. I'd worry about ex-Witnesses and lifelong non-JWs would be treated in Witness dominated society.
Why is it fair for Yahweh to punish the whole world because of what Adam did? I don't believe Adam existed but still. Religious Jews, the LDS Church and Muslims reject the idea of original sin because they believe that humans are to be held accountable by God for their own actions, not the actions of their ancestors. I don't think it would be right to punish the entire human race because of two people's actions. Sure, the world has problems, but I don't see how that proves the existence of Satan. All it says to me is that life can be hard, and that the world can be a pain the ass at times. Why would I want to worship a deity who says, "I'm going to make a point to humanity by giving the world over to my worst enemy to prove that I am the only one that should rule over everyone"? It makes God sound so haughty, and I don't like it when mortal human beings act that way, much less a deity.
You mean, you're going to allow your enemy to torment people and do nothing to help suffering people, many of whom largely may not have done anything that seriously wrong in their lives? I don't think I'd want to worship a deity like that. What did a starving child in Africa possibly do so wrong in their lives, that an allegedly loving deity wouldn't step in and make sure that they have plenty of food to eat? Because they were born "sinful", so therefore, they deserve to starve to death because they had the audacity to not be born "perfect" and "sinless" like God originally wanted? That seems harsh. I would say that God is accountable for allowing that suffering to continue under Satan's hand if either entity existed and if Satan had dominion over this world.
The Bible is the attempts of ancient Jews and Christians to make sense of the world they were living in, and why should I accept the Watchtower Society's interpretation of that book without question. When one is baptized as a JW, the questioning of doctrine is supposed to stop. Why? Why is wrong to continuing questioning your beliefs? Why is it okay that you can get punished for doing so by facing forcible excommunication from and being shunned by their religious community. Jehovah's Witnesses often say they help people come to their own conclusions, but if you come to a conclusion that isn't in line with already established doctrine, you are removed from your religious community and are essentially told that you've lost your eternal salvation -- that you're now "anti-God, wicked, mentally diseased and are now part of the Anti-Christ". The JWs often say, the road that leads to eternal life is narrow, but so do other fundamentalist Christians. I have no reason to believe that we will be granted eternal life What if there is a god and that deity doesn't want people to live forever?
The early Israelites didn't believe in life after death at one point. They thought at one time that this was only life God gave you, and you would be punished in the here and now passed how one chose to live their life. I don't believe in God, and I have no reason to, but I can understand the early Israelites concern for appreciation in this life, and even modern Judaism, despite believing in a "world to come", largely focuses on this trying to make life in this world better and then worrying about the afterlife when one's time in this life is up. When you say that Jehovah's Witnesses claim no one but them has hope for the future. You do know that most people believe in life after death, right? Just because they don't believe in the JW version of the afterlife doesn't mean they don't have hope that they'll achieve immortality.
I wouldn't put much accuracy in the time of a watch if I were you. A broken watch sometimes cannot be repaired. Technology is flawed and can sometimes fail us, sometimes in horrific ways. Did we learn nothing from the RMS TITANIC disaster? To say conditions on earth "are perfect for human life", and yet, we are still prey to natural disasters and viral disease that can damage our bodies and evil kill us. We have to deal with predatory animals that have an innate desire to eat meat, and some of them can consume human meat, though for some animals, we're not good for their digestive systems. Life is messy, but that's how it's always been, and the universe doesn't care about what we believe or what we want. I don't have any desire to rejoin the JW denomination. I'd want what to be part of an institution that doesn't allow for the questioning of dogma or that will punish you for reaching a different conclusion they what the Organization has.
I don't wish to be a part of a Church that endorses its members having homophobic or transphobic attitudes and that discriminates against them in terms of their denominational membership standards. I don't wish to break up same-sex families or couple's relationships. I don't wish to tell trans people that their gender identity is "contrary to nature", that their choice to undergo a sex change operation is a form of "mutilation" or encouraging them to break up with their spouse who was born as the same physical sex as them or requiring them to live as the physical sex they were born as. I don't want to promote the practice of shunning "because the Bible says so". I'm not willing to just insert and substitute a religious answer in regard to scientific, historical, philosophical or moral questions that might be difficult to answer or might not have answer. I'm not willing to be part of a Church that encourages people to die instead of taking a blood transfusion that might help them. I don't want to rejoin a Church that wishes people to martyr themselves for it if they live in under an oppressive governmental regime, though I'd never wish harm on any JW who lives in such a country, and I am sympathetic to their plight. I'm not willing to be part of a Church that doesn't allow me the option of accepting scientific concepts like evolution because it conflicts with established Church doctrine.
I don't want to be part of a Church that doesn't encourage its clergy to immediately report known or suspected cases of child sexual abuse to the authorities. I don't wish to be part of a Church that accuses raped female members of "having consented to sexual acts" if those women didn't call out for help. I don't wish to be part of a Church that discourages higher education because it conflicts with cherished doctrine. I don't wish to be part of a Church that emphasis belief as being more important than being a good person. I care about actions more than beliefs. I will say that I don't like it when people use their beliefs to demean or hurt others. I don't want to be part of a Church that brags about helping the needy in their own religious community while shaming others for believing that Jesus would want them to help everyone in need because they believe that "everyone is Christ's brothers." I don't wish to belong to a religious community that says I can't engage in and will be punished for engaging in actions to try and help improve social or political conditions because "we should leave it all up to God". I don't wish to be a Jehovah's Witness again. I don't belong in that community and there is no place for me there.
