They clearly struggle with English and Lloyd is using quite complex terms. Even if you understand a bit of a foreign language, having an in depth discussion about your beliefs is hard. I'm dutch and I would really struggle to accurately explain my worldview in german.

Yes that's one argument of how certain books of the New Testament couldn't have been written by close disciples of Jesus. Aramaic speakers without an huge amount of education would have struggled to have written well-thought-out books in Greek.

i relate to this! during the late 35 years i never had an occasion to get a conversation with jws because i currently live in a country where they are not allowed to preach. But one month ago, during a holiday in Spain, i dared to try it. As spanish is not my first language, they would not guess that i m a DAd former pioneer and elder. I told them I had contacts with jw in the 70s, a cousin of mine is still in, ( by the way, it s all true) . I asked about the last days, the generations, Tony s eviction, and also about my personal doubts about the permission of evil, and the shunning policy, about resurrection… of course, they have the standard jw answers, but we had them too!! anyway it was a nice conversation, and who knows, perhaps some seeds of doubt will grew up:) I m preparing another trip to Europe, perhaps I ll repeat it! as I speak a few european languages. Probably I ll stay 1/2 days in Zagreb, perhaps I ll watch our brave Lloyd in his fight for critical thinking:))

After leaving I made a conscious decision to not be an "angry ex-jw". Partially because I never listened to those people while I was still aprt of it and partly because I'd get shunned by my family to some extent if I ran around talking badly about the witnesses.
Your analogy about doing a google search and finding 90% of people have bad reviews really hit me. Without condoning unkind/rude behaviour, there is a reason ex-JWs respond in the way we occasionally do.
This cult is harmful and the bad reviews speak loudly.

These encounters are a bit anticlimactic. The language limitations make it difficult for the JWs to articulate their views, biased and incorrect as they may be. As a native English speaker, I would gladly argue against Lloyd “evolution” beliefs, and could muster scientific, mathematical, ontological and epistemological facts in a way these poor JWs couldn’t (even if their English was better).
The better part of the video was when the nature of the topic was simple. For example, “Who will survive Armageddon, according to JWs?”

Thanks, Llyod, you have a fantastic channel and the work that you do.
It staggers me that over 1000 official Christian denominations with their invisible and unheard deity from an old book that says a thing.
Just think, the god 'allegedly' created the universe and gave men from 2K+ years ago an old textbook they could not keep and certainly could not correctly understand the meaning. of.
Clearly, they could not 'interpret' the old translated written word into just one religion.
It shows me the power of childhood indoctrination before the child can think critically for themselves.
It's fascinating and it makes no difference if these two were Mormons and Muslims. Still, the same process happened when they were children.
The person has been convinced, usually when young and by family, schools, and the culture they live in that 'their' god is real.
This is usually with poor and insufficient evidence like Santa at Christmas except the adults are happy to let that bubble burst.
Children soon learn that Santa is not real whereas the particular god of your parents and their parents is kept going.
Children don't need the good and necessary evidence that an adult meeting that religion for the first time would require.
Please do tell me what you think about this.
    Alice

18:08 : imagine that, he justifies his lack of money, lack of big career and suffering to the price paid for being like Jesus.
This concept of sacrificing is one of the most destructive features of JW. It leads to vicious cycle of Un-ambition and poverty.

    • @b.w.7588
      @b.w.7588 Год назад

      Rae Roms,
I hardly think Jesus being crucified for causing a disturbance in a house of worship and being accused by other religious people of "heresy" is comparable to having a lack of financial or material prosperity and not having a successful career, and then using your time to devote your life to promoting a specific form of religious theology. There's a difference between sacrifice and denying yourself opportunities to learn, to improve yourself, to develop talents, to develop hobbies or to forge a successful job or career path because it conflicts with your religion's demands and expectations of you.

@@b.w.7588What about the expectations in Matthew 19:21 and Luke 18:22? Apart from excellent examples of the Bible authors plagiarising each other, it seems like a unambiguous example of how Jesus endorsed sacrifice, that was directly the consequence of self imposed poverty and anti-materialistic objectives. Not to mention all the grotesque stuff about disowning your family follow him instead. Throw away your family, friends and worldly possessions and follow me. Isn't that right?

Can the outside world have prejudice towards the JWs? Yes, but aren't JWs also being capable of being prejudiced towards others? Are JWs unbiased when it comes to discussing issues relating to the identities or social concerns of the LGBT community? Are JWs unbiased in their opinions when it comes to examining the beliefs and practices of any non-JW religious group? Is the Watchtower Society completely unbiased in their attitudes towards lifelong non-Witnesses or in regard to apostates? Are the Society's attitudes towards blood transfusions or other medical procedures involving the use of blood entirely free from bias? I admit that I have my biases over all kinds of things. I'm not free from bias or prejudice as much I might try not to be, but I can at least admit it and own up to it, and a JW isn't allowed to admit to having prejudices or biases in when it comes to their religion or views that contradict their religion. When one is a baptized Witness, or even if they're an unbaptized Witness, they can be punished for looking at information that disagrees with their religious beliefs or with the Watchtower Society's prescribed interpretation of the Bible.
They're told that if they do this, they risk losing both their religious community and are threatened with future punishment meted out to them by God, which their religious community tells them will result in the definite loss of their eternal salvation. I don't have anyone to tell me that I will be punished for looking at information that disagrees with or conflicts with my current views or values. I don't have to risk losing my religious community or my eternal salvation (I don't belong to a religious community, and I don't believe in an afterlife, so therefore I don't believe in eternal salvation). My ability to inquire isn't impeded upon established doctrine, and I'm rather glad of that. Freedom of inquiry is important to me.
Did you know that even though I am an atheist, I think some rules in the Bible aren't so bad, but then there are other rules in that book that I don't have a favorable opinion of. I'm cherry-picking, yes, but I can at least admit to it, and I don't see anything wrong with cherry-picking that book. For me, it's selective reading.

Respectfully, that sounds pretty bonkers. The concept that god sends you to earth is as close to their being a stork that delivers babies as I've ever heard. I don't know if it's been explained, but when a man and a woman...blippity blap and make a baby, it is ENTIRELY a biological process. The same process works for cows and monkeys. Sperm, egg, cells. I think that nullifies the notion that god "sends you to earth".
Using your theory, I would love for you to explain childhood cancer and countless defects at birth if these beings had only just been sent to earth and have not even had the opportunity to prove what kind of hard or good life they would lead.
