There seems to be a pattern with Viv where she likes to write MLM couples where one treats the other like a toy and sexually harasses them all the time, but it’s treated as a joke and not a bad thing??? It’s so weird and very telling how she views the world and relationships💀
And represented Angel dust SA as a reason topic 😭 I am a fan of her but her writing skills is full of flaws .
Very telling too when you compare to Chaggie and M&M (Millie x Moxie.) Lesbian relationships are... barely sexual, barely affectionate. Straight couples get to be super sexual yet also the most healthy. Now look at every gay male ship in either show, it becomes quickly obvious that each kind of relationship gets written a certain way

Something that irritates me, and this probably has a lot to do with te fact that micheal kovach is no longer AD's VA, is that this Angel Dust is COMPLETLY different from pilot Angel Dust. Pilot Angel Dust was openly self aware about the sex jokes and used them to make Sir pentious uncomfortable when they were fighting to gain the upper hand, pilot Angel Dust felt bad about making fun of Chalrie for the hotel not working when she was already sad and went to comfort her before he hesiated, Pilot Angel dust told jokes that WEREN'T always related to sex. Also Pilot Charlie called Angel Dust out when he was acting like a selfhish asshole and ruined what little image the Hotel had. It was FAR from perfect, but that pilot was better than any official episode we got.
IKR AND ITS SAD THEY DIDN'T KEEP IT THAT WAY. Like I get that some thinks need to change but sometimes keeping it the same way but changing a little bit of thing can be the best way

Husk is like a plot device but mostly used as angel's ragdoll/shoulder to cry on. He only calls out what the show is going to deep dive into or talk about minimum. He's used for everything like "omg look at how cruel deer man* is AND he's on a leash too!" and "omg he just called out everyone's problems that we hardly see represented!" and can't forget the "oh my bonkers, ankle* is a fake version of himself BUT we can't make angle* look bad so husk is gonna be be treated like he's a asshole to mangle*" like give my man a moment to himself for once

This is definitely a running theme when it comes to Viv writing relationships. Characters like Vaggie and Millie definitely get the brunt of it

I love Angel Dust's character on paper, but I can't ignore the constant sexual harrasment towards Husk. The double standards in Hazbin Hotel had me fall out of love with the show, or at least leading me to not like it as much as I used to.

I really don't like Angel x Husk. Like, Angel annoys me so much due to the fact that he doesn't acknowledge Husk's or anybody else's boundaries when they are clearly uncomfortable. It is disgusting. I'm sick of the fandom babying Angel and Stolas, especially to the point where they ignore any of the horrible things they have done. It's okay to want a character to become a better person, but not if it means disregarding the shitty ways they've treated others. I do hope the writers stop excusing Angel's actions, and that he actually works on becoming better and taking accountability for them, because he really needs to if he's going to be redeemed in this show.

@summerblade3790 She pushed Vaggie into commanding that group activity thingy alone, with no forewarning- and then got kinda annoyed/disappointed-ish when she didn't do very well. Also last I remember, that episode ended up with Vaggie singing her feelings and then not at all having a discussion with Charlie about it, or a proper apology from her, ect. Vaggie is also a big pushover when it comes to Charlie, and will go with whatever she's doing despite her reasonable reservations. They have no boundaries, and this trait of Vaggies isn't focused on or portrayed badly when it should be.
Also them kissing was something the show put a highlight on. When they're.. already in a relationship. They'd never been shown being nervous or awkward in their relationship- to indicate it's new, or they hadn't kissed yet or what. Maybe not problematic as such, just weird and bad writing
If I may give another perspective to this, as someone who has also experienced s/a:
I've been sexually assaulted and harassed as a minor, and was manipulated into thinking it's "no big deal." I won't give further details, but what I experienced was a pattern of "groomer-esque" behavior from the family member who primarily raised me.
I will admit, for years, I struggled to see "crossing boundaries" as morally wrong and I sexually harassed other kids as a result. To this day, I still struggle with these "mental pathways" that automatically try to downplay s/a. I've been actively trying to change that, though. I can recognize boundaries far better as an adult, and while I can only experience _cognitive_ empathy for other victims, that's still progress.
Depicting this in Angel _could have_ worked... if it was handled properly. You can't portray a delusional mindset without consistently holding the character accountable or challenging their mindset. That's not how that works.
Angel is an adult and the narrative needs to treat him like one.
I want to be abundantly clear; I know right from wrong, I know what hurts people. I can typically feel empathy (although my capacity does fluctuate), and I feel intense levels of remorse should I ever hurt someone.
It's moreso an issue of struggling to associate any kind of emotion with the topic of sexual harm in particular. I only feel this sense of numbness towards that topic _specifically._
Regardless, I've changed a lot from who I used to be. A reminder for anyone who needs to hear it: yes, recovery is possible ❤
I'm 21, and I know the channel creator and likely many viewers are in their mid-teens.
This isn't directly related to the video, but as a relatively-older survivor, I feel a sense of duty to make sure those reading understand something. Something I know I would have benefitted from when I was at my worst:
You may have hurt other people, and doing so was wrong. The guilt may be correct, but you can't let it overwhelm you.
Hurt people will often hurt others. Whatever you may have done wasn't right, but it doesn't make you worth any less. You still deserve to be given the chance and the resources to change for the better.
You may experience relapses, recovery is never smooth. The road doesn't end just because you trip. The gates do not close. Take the time you need to dust yourself off, and keep going. You can do this.
This is exactly how I feel about his character. His hypocrisy isn't something that should be written out but actually be a building block. Exploring how repetative breaking of ones boundaries can muddle the waters of how they view consent. And while it's just season one and we can hope they expand on that. The way the show paints husk in a iffy light because he put down boundaries gives me a bit of doubt.

I do think they did treat Angel like an adult and the narrative did help him accountable and we'll see more of that in the future hopefully.

I don't personally care about Angel making that "joke" about fucking Alastor because from my own interpretation, it felt like Angel was just expressing just how much he didn't care about the hotel. That the only time they'd get any good publicity is if the biggest porn star in Pride and the famed Radio Demon had sex. Which wouldn't ever happen, according to Alastor. And it was the only time from my recollection he ever interacted with Alastor in the show.
But yeah, I'm really disappointed in Angel's character... miss how he was written in the pilot, he actually seemed to give a shit about Charlie in the pilot when he went too far on the jokes at her expense and reached out for her for a second, but also made a taco joke at Vaggie and told her to choose if it was racist or sexist, so we got the sense that he was a genuinely shitty person to everyone, was in a shitty situation, but he had the capacity to be good, and its a shame that in the whole show, the fucking pilot is the one where Angel is the best characterized as someone with the potential to want to change.

@Jdudec367 That's a little too late, and honestly, it felt more like he was doing it out of self-preservation. But that's just my opinion. The only time he shows that he cares for other people and tried to protect them is in episode 6 when he was fretting over Niffty. But this is about the first impressions of the character and angel again, doesn't act like he genuinely cares about others until that character flip in episode 4

The pilot was the first impressions of the series, but if you watched only the show, he doesn't care about anyone else, or their feelings AT ALL until 4. That's why I don't count it. It feels incredibly out of place. And also, in 4 when Charlie showed up, he knows the consequences of having Charlie around when he's associated with the hotel. Especially after she fucked everything up. He knew he was gonna get punished for what just happened. It's not out of love or concern for her, or at least, it doesn't read as such. It's out of self preservation, to try and appease the abuser to lessen the punishment he knew was inevitable

I don't know, Vivzie has always flip-flopped around her views on SA/SH. When Stolas or Angel have that happened to them, it's bad, but when it happens to Blitzø, Moxxie, Husk, Alastor, and Sir Pentious, it's treated as a joke or funny when you look more into what had happened and even look at other perspectives. I get if someone would joke about the perpetrator or their own trauma, but in Vivzie's work? It's poking fun at the victims and only treated seriously when the victim is meant to be sympathetic. SA/SH is horrid and wrong, no matter who the characters or even people are. End of story.
Edit: Oh, and I think Charlie would count considering Valentino licked her, and I think it's portrayed as uncomfortable, but only from Charlie's perspective because her response is supposed to be a joke (I think???). I struggle with understanding Vivzie's work and what moments are supposed to be jokes and what are not at times

SPIT YOUR SHIT BROTHER!!! i've had the same dynamic as this with someone before(not a romantic partner) with no one taking it seriously because i'm a guy. it's so nasty how little male sexual harassment and assault is taken seriously in media especially because of how things like this translate to real life. people praise hazbin for addressing male sexual assault but not enough people call it out for having such an egregious double standard like this video does. on a side note, the "he's autistic, he doesn't know any better" bullshit is legitimately one of the most ableist and infantilizing statements. i'm autistic and i will say that autism gives one an unremovable filter on how they view social interaction, so things like understanding boundaries can be difficult. but that's exactly why it's so important for autistic people to learn these things(especially being taught them by their families/caregivers) and communicate to the people around us about the things we struggle with. autism may explain one's struggles with boundaries but it does not give one an excuse to sexually harass people.

My God, what a perfect video. The fact that Husk reconciled so quickly with Angel and forgot about the various harassments is because Husk is destined to be his romantic partner from the beginning. Husk was literally made to be Angel's boyfriend, and this particularly makes me sad because it means that Husk is doomed to a relationship only with his ex-harasser.
Husk deserved to meet someone else, someone who wouldn't disrespect his space, someone who understands the emptiness he feels inside. Just because Angel and Husk gave their souls and are in contracts doesn't mean they have the same problems and feel the same things. Husk deserved someone who would make him feel love again in a natural way, and not forced like it was with Angel.
Angel and Husk could be together in the end, but along the way, I would like Husk to meet someone he deserves, who makes him feel alive again. Later, after Angel has completely changed and Husk has had the experience of what it's like to feel love for someone real, they could be together.
Honestly, real. This is so real that I genuinely think even Mimzy would be a better romantic partner for him! Which is a stretch but bare with me. He probably *was* on good terms with Mimzy at first and he's probably known her a while since she's Alastor's friend and... That's all not going to lie. You can punch me for bringing up Family Guy in this situation, but this is exactly why they dropped the super serious plotlines in that show, for example the domestic abuse episode about Quagmire's sister. If you're going to have actual dark humor in your show, putting a real dark situation in the middle will sour it. People hated that episode of Family Guy, it's only natural that people would hate that Hazbin shares dark humor jokes like someone nervously yelling that they're having sex with everyone, so they get dragged into a sex room while freaking out cause it was a misunderstanding, and then cut to another character being truly sexually, emotionally, and physically abused IN THE SAME ROOM THE JOKE JUST HAPPENED IN. It's tonal whiplash, plain and simply distasteful. She wants to be like another dark cartoon comedy that people can binge, cheer relentlessly for and give awards to. She really wants to be Bojack, but she's not. Her beat is off.
I feel like they wanted to try and portray that in some cases SA victims could possibly repeat the cycle of assault, but instead of writing the subject with seriousness they just find it to be like... funny or something. Its weird.

Honestly, this gave me a really different view. My main issue with the ship was that angel just needs a friend more than he needs a lover. He needs to be shown that people don’t just value him because of his body. But people can generally like him for him.

Angel is arguably the biggest victim of the "6 episode season" format character wise.
Where we could've seen him gradually change it's skipped over. I can't believe the Pilot was better at starting it.

I don't think sexual harassment is intrinsically a problem being depicted, more like the show picks and chooses how bad it is when it really can't. The fact we never get a proper apology towards Husk, Husk himself being put in the wrong for being harsh towards Angel despite his treatment of him, the other problems with SA in the show... I don't blame people thinking it's a deal breaker.

Tbh,if I would talk about the problems that I have with Angels character, it would be like a few paragraphs long.
To have it short, I really don't like the way that the SA is portrayed in hazbin AT AL. I had in my life a really similar situation to Angel dust,so I think that I have the right to be slightly upset,when the way it is portrayed feels so. Overly sexualised. I especially despise the song poison, because even though I understand, that it is made to be glamoury and bright,to give us the viewer the idea,that he bottles his pain up. BUT is it really necessary to let him do a dance and after get a SA scene while there is pop music playing? It could be actual good representation, I have myself hypersexuality and I WOULD LOVE to have media that portrays these problems. But this al ,the way Angel talks about it,the way it's done in the show. It feels just highly disrespectful. I have no problem with dark humor or jokes about SA. I make them myself even though i had to go through it. It can be done right,but hazbin didn't succeed in it. But that is just my opinion.

Tbh i would prefer a scene like if Angel realize the fact he is just behaving like Valentino. I never cared for Angel Dust at all. He's nothing but a walking sex joke in my opinion. Fans crying out "He's hypersexual" is a weak ass excuse to give him a pass. I agree with the double standards though. When Angel harasses Husk, fans instantly jack off to it, but when Valentino does the same thing to him, people start screaming and cuss out the demon pimp moth. I don't hate Huskerdust as much as Stolitz because at least a deal isn't involved with them but the ship still isn't great. Just because Vivzie, Keith and Blake love the idea doesn't make it automatically good. I hope their relationship is explored more next season. And by that I mean less rushed because season 1 had inconsistent writing and pacing. I don't wanna hear the "Amazon only gave Vivzie 8 episodes" excuse because with all the time they had since the pilot could've made the episodes WAY longer. Husk is my favorite character in the series next to Carmilla, Velvette and Sir Pentious so I'm glad he's warming up to Angel despite not receiving an apology from him but it still didn't feel right for him to be constantly annoyed and seen as "cute." I’ve been in a similar situation as Husk too. I was sexually harassed by a person who was younger than me, and it was in school. He said that I turned him on and I was repulsed. What’s worse is that when I told the teacher, he lied and said he asked me about what I got on the quiz. All he got was a stern warning, though.

Husk died in his later years, but Angel is older than Husk, having died in the 1920s, (I think, and I'm pretty sure Husk died in the 60s/70s).... I do want to only see them as platonic friends, though.

I call this the “UWUfication effect” where they make the character (usually male being a twink femboy)that it shown to suffer a lot and then use it as an excuse for their behavior because the writers probably don’t know how to expand and give a character development at all. A lot of writers who are in the BL and on platforms like Webtoon almost always do this because of how much their story blew up unexpectedly that they didn’t think their work would gain enough fame to where having to continue the story would really happen. I feel like a lot of examples would be the ones shown on ads for the app itself that promote the series. You can usually tell when the writer most likely considered it a rough draft or a little demo for them to learn how to write characters better but because of that massive blow up they usually get, most are pressured to write more in a short span of time to where the characters themselves don’t really go through any proper development or the world building being completely underdeveloped as a result.

@@Bushwhack-lmao_xD YES! The Vees honestly feel like a lazy attempt to be those types of characters but are sort of huge stereotypes. The “seductive Hispanic man with an accent” , “the random businessman that will convince you to buy 18 items of the product they’re promoting”, “the toxic girl that blasts you online and uses a lot of online terms while talking” that’s literally how you summarize their characters. I know it’s only the first season and all but they are already so heavily stereotyped as the traits they have it’s insane. Also how Stella was just left to be the “crazy ex” and they only stuck with all the stereotypes in that label for her made me upset because I saw the potential in her being a good character with sort- of a reason to be evil but also will do anything to uphold her image WITHOUT being caught. They just straight up made her childish and dumb but she could’ve also been a manipulative person to her daughter and INFLUENCED HER since the beginning.
While I don't hate Angel Dust but rather his writing and think he was done dirty by the writers. And think Stolas is worse because he should've been the antagonist while Angel had his characterization mishandled. I definitely agree with you on everything though, and I'm sorry you went through that and shows like these make light of it. I for a long time found it distasteful, dismissive and misrepresentative to present SA particularly of men as a joke. So, many parts of the media do this and it's wrong. I don't care if people say "it's just a joke" or "he's a man it's fine" or "well Husk is pansexual so he should like it, he's just being a tsundere" what we consume influences us and no body should be excusing this behavior and sort of writing. There is a great video by Pop Culture Detective called "S*xual *ssault of Men Played for Laughs" there's a part 1 & 2. I think it's also because Viv is a bisexual woman so her understanding of queer men may be limited. Seeing stuff like this is why I'm a little pessimistic about some things, not overly so at least not out loud. I'm just prepared for how someone will ruin something, it feels inevitable at this point. Why do people choose to make things harder on themselves and write scenes like this in. The show could at the very least pick a stance. Do they find male r*pe victims funny or not, it can't be both. This show angers me, from the character design to story. But I have to see how this dumpster fire ends.

I think the problem is that the show only sees things as bad when it's not funny, like two characters do the same thing but one was funny so it's okay. And the issue bleeds into Angel Dust, him sexually harassing people is supposed to be funny, so we don't need to call him out.
Which yeah you don't make a joke then go "it was serious actually" but also.. you don't make jokes that undermind the characters and story.
The writers need to be more carful and drop the bad jokes that aren't even funny (dark humour is good but you need to remember the humour part)

Ok, so I've officially finished watching the video and I agree with pretty much every single opinion you said. Here's a Disclaimer, I'm going to type about my own experiences so, if you don't wish to read my journey with depression scroll down now.
I was in a similar place where Angel Dust was. I was in an abusive relationship that had me put on a fake persona, in hopes of getting "accepted" and "liked", it got so bad that when I left the relationship, I didn't know who I was, so I tried to create a new persona to figure who "I" was. I went by multiple names, I changed my hair, personality, way I looked at life, everything, every week it was someone new, until I got so sick of myself that I made everyone else's lives hell, just to feel "in control of something". I invaded boundaries because my abuser never respected mine, I talked about inappropriate subjects because that's what I was used to, I always called people out on their flaws because I couldn't fix mine, I was an absolute asshole (I still am now).
Angel Dust's actions have been EXPLAINED, but they cannot be excused or justified. He clearly made everyone around him uncomfortable for the sake of "being her persona" when most of the time, it's completely unnecessary. The people Alastor hired had NOTHING to do with sex or Valentino, they were there for less than a second and he was flirting. I don't think I entirely blame him for being "hypocritical" with getting angry at Husk for calling him out, because he already KNOWS his flaws, and he hates it about himself. He doesn't want to feel worse about it. Sometimes, when you have that trauma response, you gaslight yourself into thinking that everything will be alright if you just pretend it is. I think that's what Angel was doing when Vaggie called him out on Sir Pentious being the only TRUE member of the hotel. Angel wants to show he cares, but he can't control himself enough to do it. I might be giving the benefit of the doubt or pushing my experiences onto him, but I think that flirting is just an instant response. He wants to be the center of attention because he doesn't feel worthy of it. With that being said, Angel definitely should've apologized to everyone he sa'ed because it no way is his trauma an excuse of that, and the whole Husk x Angel ship should've had more development than what we got.

I strongly prefer Angel in the Hazbin pilot era but I don’t have much of a problem with him in the show. When I first watched season 1 in January, I was a little disappointed with how Angel stopped being my favorite character but “Loser baby” was still one of the best songs in the series so far in my opinion.

3:24 this is interesting because i see this in so many shows with pretty bad queer "representation" where one character is abusive to another but gets together with the person they abused and the fandom thinks that it isn't abusive and that it's okay because it's gay. but if the abuser was a man and the victim was a woman then nobody would like the ship. the best example i can think of for this is the she-ra reboot. catra was insanely abusive to adora but they still got together in the end and everyone just loves to make excuses for catra because she has trauma (like angel dust). but if catra was a man then nobody would be defending her.

Thank you for talking about poison I mean the music is really good I love it and it captures angel well...my issue is the visuals we didn't need to see angel get straight up sa'd.
People have said it was supposed to be uncomfortable because sa is uncomfortable and supposed to be bad which ties into "When is sa bad in this show?"
But also it makes me uncomfortable seeing it straight up on screen I prefer the tell don't show aspect of sa Media.
Like dialogue between charecters, shadows, or even just showing the aftermath is enough.
Like in some angel dust fancomics it show him after what had been done and how distraught he is that's better.
This pretty much sums up how I feel and I'm surprised that so few people see this. Angel isn't cute or funny. There are much better ways to portray hypersexuality in a character than making them go around sexually harassing people. I've seen fans even make excuses for that. That it isn't actually harassment because it's Angel's way of pushing people away and protecting himself, but it doesn't matter why he does it. It's harassment plain and simple. There's a point when the abused becomes the abuser and Angel is pretty much already there. Sure, he isn't as horrific as Val, he doesn't actively r4pe people, but he does go around verbally sexually harassing people and touching them without their consent. This isn't okay. I'll never understand how this made it past the script writing stage and nobody noticed that this isn't appropriate for a main character that we're supposed to sympathize with. I feel bad for Angel as far as his situation with Val goes. I don't think anyone deserves to be abused like Angel is on a day-to-day basis, it's horrible. But as far as Angel as an actual person goes, I find it hard to sympathize with him. He's an actual garbage truck.
Yeah. I never cared for the guy. I've seen funnier gay characters from other cartoons. How he's written in the show isn't very good but fans just cream their pants over him every time he's on-screen because of what he does. Yes it sucks that Val is doing shitty things to him and is portrayed as a worse person but fans still can't ignore Anthony's issues and just play it off by saying "uwu. So hot."
I will say Angel being a bad person COULD’VE worked if he actually grew from it. It’s a little weird that in a show about redemption none of the characters truly grow from assholes to better people y’know like the plot of the show
I personally think that all the ships are bad writing and weird as fuck, especially Huskerdust, Stolitz and Chaggie with Cherrypentious!
Cherrisnake is just boring and came out of nowhere. We don't even know why they would like each other.
Cherrisnake is also kinda toxic, to me. Cherri never gave Sir Pentious the time of day but when he kisses her, she has feelings?? It's so rushed. They should've waited until the next season for their relationship, if they were going to do it. Maybe Sir Pentious made Cherri feel special because of him chasing her around like a puppy, and she misses that. Or they actually had some BONDING time besides episode 6 at the club, like they create a bombing machine.
Yeah. They really are but fans are too in love with the ships to even care.

Maybe this is why he's not in heaven 😂. But what I really want to say is, if they are going to have any sort of relationship. It would be nice to see Angel learn to respect other's personal space. And I personally see the max of their relationship as platonic, because I don't see Angel being ready for an actual relationship. At least not yet. He has been through a lot of sexual abuse, and needs time to work on it. Which will be significantly harder with a partner.

Im not a fan of vizipop but this video is so valid (also as someone thats both (has been I’ve recoverd/buried it all down and never let it out again) hypersexual and autism, I can say that the Hypersexual excuse isn’t valid and just bc you have an illness or a disorder doesn’t make assaulting somone in any way valid.

Even though I completely agree with some of the points you have made, I am looking forward to seeing more scenes of Angel becoming more developed since what he has done was wrong, maybe this could be extremely flawed behaviors? Since in the last episodes after 4 we got a bit of development and showing boundaries maybe he can improve more? Idk 😂🤷♀️
Hopefully Vivzie and her team will develop and improve the characters and storyline more as the show continues
As someone who was sexually harassed seeing Angel do it, MULTIPLE times just makes me mad. Cause that happens to me, but because it was a guy doing it , but he got a pass and somehow made it seem like I was the bad guy for rejecting him multiple times because im aro.
I would've been okay with how angel is acting currently in the show if the show's characters continue to call him out and/or he gets consequences (like Husk hating him or him realizing how much he fucked up and trying to fix it )

I like Angel but you're so real for this tbh... people baby him *too* much... Angel is in Hell for a reason, maybe not a sxual reason but he's not a pure person like the fandom sees him... and I totally noticed the double standars in the fandom when it comes to harassment... I know Val is like, three or ten levels over Angel with the way he acts but harassment is harassment and nobody says anything about how Angel treated Husk... and it happens with a lot of Hellaverse characters, not just Angel.
I also loved Huskerdust back in the pilot era because it was pretty much the only non-canon ship we had that made sense?? but when the show came out I didn't like it anymore because of the way they acted with each other after episode 4... Husk sees Angel as someone way younger (which he is btw), he calls him "kid" and all that stuff and it's a bit... idk... I like the idea of both being in a familiar/platonic relationship, not a couple one.. Hell, Husk literally acts like a mentor... I don't understand how they will jump to be a couple...

When i was first watching the show when it came out i always felt like Angel's behaviour was unnacceptable and i was so confused how nobody was calling him out for it and let alone shipping him and husk?? I wanted to like huskerdusk so bad bcs everyone else did so i was hoping that they would actually have good development but after the end of the show i was left with "That's it??"
