    Living in Minburi area (l will not forget your earlier sarcasm about Minburi Pat 😉) l am super excited about both the Pink and Orange line. But the Orange in particular. These lines are long anticipated and are really gamechangers for us and the whole region in an economic and social sense. Amazing accomplishment by the Thai contractors and government 👍🏻

    Thanks for the helpful information and footage delivered in your unique and wry style, Pat. It's incredible to think back to how Bangkok has changed over the last 30 odd years. The Skytrain and Subway projects are the best things to happen to Bangkok. Without them, it'd be a grinding halt of traffic. I just hope they don't fill in too many canals. Traveling by boat is one of the charming features of Bangers. Keep up the excellent work of educating us about this very amazing city!

    11:45 A few corrections here;
    • Although the Yellow Line and Orange Line's constructions are on similar timeframes of construction, the Yellow Line will fully open two years before the East Section of the Orange Line.
    • This is due to the fact that the contract to run the electrical system, source the trains, and operate the stations for the Eastern Section is bound to the same contract as the construction and operation of the Western Section.
    • And as the contract bidding just got out of a second court case, it means that, even though the Eastern Section of the Orange Line will probably finish construction even before the Yellow and Pink Lines, it'll open 2 years after them.

    • @BangkokPat
      @BangkokPat  2 года назад +5

      In fact the Yellow Line will initially open as far as Hua mak then completely later on. Orange Line have no trains as yet and will sit idle for a couple of years sadly.

    I used to live down Rat Phatthana Road (Soi Mistine). If you wanted to take public transport to Sukumvit, you had to get a motor cycle taxi or regular taxi to Airport Link Ban Tap Chang, take the Airport link to Makkasan, walk across the Skywalk to the MRT Blue Line to go from Phetchaburi to Sukumvit. It was a lot of changes and waiting around. That same route will be so much more direct, easier and quicker when the new Orange Line Opens. The area to the east of Soi Mistine is nice, especially around Rom Klao. Rom Klao has a beautiful park (Queen SiriKit 60th Anniversary Park).

    Thanks for another great video.
    Having first visited BKK long before any of the BTS lines were built, I can say that Bangkok is one of the prime examples of what happens to a city as it gains efficient public transport.
    It generates an explosion of commerce, industry, residential housing and (if the city is worthy of it) tourism. In the last 35 years Bangkok has grown beyond anyone's imagination and that is primarily because of the BTS systems.

    Great video Pat! One of my favourite things to do when I'm in Bangkok is get on the BTS or MRT and just get off at a random stop and explore the area around the station. It's a nice way to get to know the city, especially the areas off the beaten path that most tourists will never see.
    I'm really looking forward to the opening of the Orange line (and the Pink and Yellow ones!) hopefully by the next time I'm in town.

      @@BangkokPat I did think it had taken a couple of days - long way and loads of rain. But I think you said you did it over a couple of weeks? Just to say loving your channel - the videos on the BTS and MRT are so useful and the history of the Klongs is brilliant. If we are in Bangkok for longer than a few days would be great to do one of your tours.

    I am glad that BKK progresses so much & the folks from the countryside, especially from the Isaan region will never lacked for work, as laborers and they could send their earned income home to their families. I've seen some people, on YT, that both husband and wife, when they starting out, came to BKK from Nong Khai, and worked and saved up until they have earned enough to build themselves a nice new home to raise their 2 sons in, and send them both to Uni, so, it's been the blessings to the workers from the countryside & to the people who live in BKK, you know, with the construction going on all the time?
    I , however, can never find my way home, if I do what you're doing, BKK Pat. My sense of direction...sucks, especially at night. LOL. Thanks for keeping us Thai expats up-to-date on what's going on in Thailand. I wish my American honey would take the time so sit and watch some of these amazing clips of yours, I'm sure, he'll be amazed that the so called "3rd world" has surpassed, in some aspects, the "1st world" by a mile.

      There are many other lines being built and I'll also cover those soon.

    The thing is when this orange line is done and through to the west side, You can catch the train from Ramkamhang to the Grand Palace area easier than before. I'm not sure if we have to change the train at Cultural Center or we could ride directly to, tho.

    Brilliant, I really enjoyed this video. The Orange Line will made a huge difference to so many locals, and should reduce some of the road traffic. Has any work commenced yet on the Brown line?

    Thank you very much for putting so much effort into your video and keeping us all informed. Have you any latest status on the Orange line? I'm considering to buy a condo in Rama 9 and the opening of the orange line with the MRTA station would really be great to have now, rather than in two years. Many thanks in advance for any information.

    This East side of the Orange Line is about to open to ease the traffic congestion near Ramkhamhaeng and Bangkapi. However, the West part passes through Sanamluang, Ratchadamnoen and Pratunam, which are crucial for tourism and business. Due to various bloody problems, we will not be able to see the second part probably until 2027.

    Maybe part of the reason for this huge traffic jam is there is barely a way to walk as Pat is demonstrating in this video or even cycle which basically no one in BKK does for commuting as in many European cities. Hope that change in the future alongside public transportations expansions.

      I think it is possible with some organisation and a good map, and patience of course as some khlongs alongside Romklao don't have walkways. Would be a great day out!
