Jesse Owens actually befriended one of the German athletes who was the first to congratulate him after he finished his race

+Sarah Schoepp Yep I read that in his book before it was banned, I think it was long and high jump, Jesse was gonna be disqualified and the Germans taught him how to win properly, something like that

Fun fact, Jesse Owens kept a picture of him shaking hands with Adolf Hitler after the games with him decades after, saying "that was one of my most beautiful moments."
He also said that he was treated better in Germany that he was in the US, where his kind still faced segregation. None of this was reported on by the media because they wanted to perpetuate a negative image of Hitler.

+Jacket I'm not trying to be rude just informed, but I could've sworn Hitler refused to shake Jesse owens hand in fact I thought that was pretty well known?

    • @theadversary1188
      @theadversary1188 8 лет назад +8

+Jacket He surely did state that. The Germans treated him three times better than the White Americans did in his own country. Jesse himself once he left Germany had to rethink everything because of how Germans were portrayed and the reason the U.S. went to war with Germany and his regime. Hitler himself even stated something along the lines of the U.S. can't tell him anything because they are oppressing their Black citizens like his country do the Jews.

I was an extra in this movie (faculty wife). Even though there were multiple takes and we filmed all day, I'm not seen in the scene that begins at 1:34 as I was standing directly behind Jason Sudeikis. However, it's always fun being on set for a feature film, whether the scene I was in ends up on-camera or not:)

I have a suggestion for all the comment wars: Focus on the fact that he is running. I love movies like this and Unbroken, because for once the runners get to shine.
You're all ragging on an amazing runner and sport here guys. The word race has two meanings: The one you're all fighting over, and the one that is a celebration of hours of training combined into a few perfect moments, when the whole world is right, you forget everything, and you are flying.
I like the second definition better. So quit seeing this movie as racial discrimination, and start seeing it as a celebration of one of the greatest runners ever to set foot on a track.

Wow, I've never regretted reading youtube comments more in my life, like people are seriously excusing and even admiring Hitler, like in public, on the web, I never thought I'd see that.
Also, calling a movie anti-white for portraying the dark time of american that was segregation? are movies about slavery also anti-white? Especially because for what little I can see in the trailer, the movie seems to be addressing the hypocrisy of Americans wanting to humiliate Hitler for his treatment of Jews while doing something very similar in their own country, so I don't know what people are so butt-hurt about. If you are white, fuck off, you are the oppressor race, of pretty much the world, so you don't get to be offended by "anti-white" propaganda ok? because literally NO ONE will ever consider you inferior for the colour of your skin, any discrimination you will ever suffer for your race will come from other's resentment from what our race has repeatedly done to them throughout pretty much most of human history, so suck it up...

  • @latios2588

I'll be honest, it bothered me that they didn't put the handshake between hitler and owens.
I hate Hitler, he was a racist, a sexist and he killed anyone who didn't agree with his morals; but with that handshake and the fact that I give owens one of his portraits it showed that even the most disgusting of all monsters could feel other emotions than hatred. This does not take away all that he has done objectively, such as killing himself cowardly and leaving his "beloved" country in absolute chaos, causing the death of many innocent people, showing Germany as one of the most horrible countries ever, treating women (exception his family) as if they were reproductive objects and a lot of other things. But despite everything (maybe) in the beginning he really wanted to help his country but ended up becoming a monster without the slightest bit of true humanity.

Really i laughed about the oppressed people of Germany part. I can see this director doesn't know his history because at the time everyone was in marvel about how great Germany was and how Hitler has brought Germany out of depression, not to mention was very nice to all American olympians.

Even with views of Aryan supremacy (and East Asian supremacy), it's not about athletics it's about creating the best functioning civilization. So you're not making a point against people who believe in racial supremacy. They don't really care who can run fast, they care who is the smartest and most successful and orderly.

    - I'm shocked, I never heard about this great athlete before. I was pondering about this when I realized.. Yeah, he is BLACK that's why.... If that was a Whitey, by now, every country, every text book, and a movie and rebooted movie and a reboot of a reboot and a HBO TRUE MINISERIES was already done on the Whitey.. Documentaries on National Geographic Channel, History channel etc. A world famous statue, etc etc..
If this is ridiculous and sounds stupid.. Then, read about the way he was treated after he came back... He was only used by media as to portray HITLER in bad spotlight. All his name was carried in media was to show hitler as a great villain who hated negroes blah blah.. Whereas, Owens himself kept saying that Hitler came and shook his hand and congratulated him.. A victory of respect earned from not a man who murdered so many people but from a man whose Aryan superiority(Same as white superiority, which was sadly never brought up) was crushed brutally and beyond imagination by MR.OWENS... America, which calls their founding fathers(all whiteys) with great respect failed to show respect to this man who was banned from racing after this event and who was left as bankrupt and in oblivion. WHAT A SHAME>..
